5 minute freewrite 2342 prompt bathtub of tears

Most mornings when I wake Rudy is still awake and then he goes to bed about an hour later. This morning I noticed he was still awake 2 hours later and was standing by the cage door staring at me. It seemed strange for him not to be in his little box house sleeping. He stays up all night and sleeps all day.

I walked over to his cage and saw he had eaten all of the greens, so I went to the fridge and got him some cabbage and he started eating it like he was starving. That is when I saw his food bowl that I put store bought food in sitting on top of his cage. I forgot to put it back in the cage when I filled it last night. I felt so bad, I could have cried a bathtub of tears.

For such a little rabbit, he eats like a horse. Last night I cut 4 Swiss chard leaves with stems, 2 giant cabbage leaves, 1 turnip green leaf with the stem, 5 dandelion plants with flowers, and a huge handful of wide blade grass that he likes. Plus his treats of 1 strawberry, half of a carrot, 4 slices of tomatoes, and 2 ground cherries. Plus he has Timothy hay that all the sites say to fed rabbits, but I do not think Rudy is just any rabbit, he never eats it.

The night before last I thought that I had the problem with him getting away from me when I take him out of his cage solved, I put a harness on him and hooked a leash to it. This way when he jumps I will have the leash. He did not try to get away so I was not sure it worked. The harness is big on him but I had hoped it would work. When it was time to put him back in his cage, I carried him to it with the harness still on and when I got close, he leaped out of my hands and out of the harness right into his cage.

I did not take him out last night. But tonight I will try another harness and see if he can get out of it. He looks like they should fit him, but under all that fur he must be very small.
