Many things have changed since I started going to school, you notice in the picture the girls are not wearing trousers. It was not because we wanted to wear a dress but because only the boys were allowed to wear pants to school, girls HAD to wear a dress or they would not be allowed in school.
At home I never wore a dress, dresses were for school and going to town. My Mom made most of my dresses. I had long pants to wear in the winter, but in the summertime, I was always in shorts.
I even swam in the clothes that I had on. I remember my first real bathing suit, it was called a baby-doll style, a long loose top that was open in the back, with a separate bottom. I was 13 when my Mom bought it for me and Dad was mad, he preferred us to wear our shorts which had to go to our knees. I was so proud to have a real bathing suit, all of the girls who came to our campground and camped with their families had "real" bathing suits, and now I felt more like them.

Recently, a lot have changed in school dress, in some schools, everyone wear pants/trouser, time's brings new things into the human nature.
Here a lot of schools now have uniforms the kids must wear.
