The Enemy Called Average
There is an enemy called Average, and it resides in a deceptively cozy place known as the Comfort Zone.
One of the toughest phases in our journey to the top isn't when we're struggling to afford the basics—it's when we've just crossed that line. When we can now afford to earn, spend, and save comfortably, that’s when the real battle begins. It’s in this season that we encounter our greatest adversary: Average.
The job of this enemy is subtle but dangerous—it lulls us into comfort just long enough to make us forget our dreams, abandon our aspirations, and give up on our higher pursuits. Slowly, our passion to chase the impossible starts to fade. Our vision begins to dim, and we find ourselves shrinking our dreams to fit the size of our comfort zone.
Average whispers lies like, “You’re not doing badly,” or “You’re better off than most people.” It tells us our desire for more is rooted in greed or lack of contentment, instead of a deep-seated need to fulfill purpose. And before long, we stop trying. We stop pushing. And our journey ends halfway.
But Average can be defeated. Here's how:
Keep your eyes on your goal – Stay hungry and focused, no matter how far you’ve come.
Seek purpose over comfort – Let your motivation be more than wealth or applause. Let it be about impact—being a light in a dark world.
Don't settle – As long as your current reality doesn’t resemble the future you’ve envisioned, keep moving.
Surround yourself with the right people – Choose companions who challenge you, who never settle, and who constantly push you to grow.
Refuse the hospitality and warmth offered by your comfort zone. Get comfortable being uncomfortable—and you’ll be unstoppable.
