21 Semaphore sunsets [pick your favourite and win hive!]

in Pinmapple3 years ago (edited)

Being born in the best country in the world, Australia, comes with many perks, not least of which is innate and intrinsic awesomeness that exudes from the inside out; I cant help it y'all, it is what it is. I'm serious. Sure, the country has its problems, as do all countries, but Australia is an amazing place to call home and I'm a Southern Son, born and bred - A part of this country.

Australia is a diverse land with a culture to match. We have great weather, a little bit of everything, and it's a relatively safe place to live when directly compared to other countries. We are very lucky down here...You'd have to be here to understand I guess.

I live in South Australia, a vast State with a diversity of its own; Remote and rugged outback deserts, arid lands, ancient mountain ranges, lakes, rivers, forest and scrubland, world famous wine regions, amazing seafood and fresh produce, a cosmopolitan capital city and some of the best beaches you'll find in the country. It also has a fairly low population which suits my non-peopley nature. It has what I need - It's not pretentious.

It's the beach I want to talk about today, one very close to home - A place I go a lot.

Semaphore beach

I'm often to be found here walking along the sand...Yes, on the sand despite not liking sand at all! [Gets everywhere y'all.] But yeah, I walk on the beach to de-stress and to think things through. I find it relaxing and many a weighty matter has been contemplated and decided upon whilst walking on Semaphore beach watching the sunset. It's also a nice place for fish and chip dinners whilst watching the sunset stain the sky all sorts of wondrous colours. This place speaks to me without words and the sunsets add colour.

Pick your favourite and tell me why

So today, rather than write a thousand words like usual [only 600 or so] I thought I'd do something different. I've added twenty one sunset pictures below, all taken at various times of the year during beach walks at Semaphore. I like them all as they hold memories but I have one particular favourite.

What I want you to do is pick your own favourite and tell me why...I'll throw some hive at the best ones, directly into the users' wallet. It's simple right? I'll give you a couple days to get your comment placed below and then pay out Friday lunch time, Adelaide time. Don't forget though, you have to pick your favourite and tell me why.

Thanks for taking a look. Now, pick your favourite, tell me why and if I like your comment I'll transfer you some hive in a couple days. Have a great rest of the week y'all, and if you get some time, chase some sunsets of your own: Allow it's colour to stain some of those threads you weave into your life-tapestry in vibrant colour.

Picture two. The why. Two things. The sky. The bird.
The sky. It's crystal. It's Orange. It's beautiful. Nuff said.
The bird. Mid flight. Captures grace. Captures action. Truly magnificent. Nuff said.
My thanks. Good day.

Yep, picture two is a favourite of mine too. This was taken with my Olympus camera, on the auto setting because I have no clue what the settings actually do. I was lucky to get the bird in flight...I'll admit it took me a bit of waiting for those bloody birds to do what I wanted.

Thanks for responding and letting me know which you like best.

It was a toss up almost for me between number 5 and number 7.

Number 7 won out. No people, and it gives that feel of a clean beach and being the first person on Earth to catch that view. No one there to share their thoughts, just me, the beach, the water and the sky. The colorization of the water, the clouds and the sky seem to paint a happy glow, to bring to the forefront of the mind happy times while still reflecting on times of the past that were not so happy, a melding and blending of the two states of mind.

Great choice and god reasons too! I remember that evening well...It was red, sort of like Mars of something, not that I've been to Mars or anything. I like number seven too, no people and I like that it captures the texture of the sand in the foreground but a little further the sand looks like glass due to the water still running back off it. I prefer to see more clarity in the clouds but I think the interest comes from the contrast of the light in the water, the sunlight and shadow.

Thanks for playing along and letting me know your favourite and why.

Wow, wow and wow!
Comment coming soon.

I'm glad you saw this post...As someone who takes legit sunset shots I'm interested to see which you pick and why.

Hello @galenkp

What a beautiful picture, from what you describe your country is a good place to live. You are privileged to be there.

All the images are great, I had a bit of a hard time deciding.

My choice was number 8.
I love how the sky and the sea come together. Just a small line (the bridge) where we pass through.

I can describe it as the whole nature is huge and wonderful, and we are just small beings that walk on that small line that separates the sea from the sky.

It is a fantastic sunset. The colours, the scenery is perfect, a romantic place.
I hope that one day I will be able to visit it.

Hi there, thanks for dropping in.

Yep, number eight is one of my favourites.

That black line the people are on is a sand bar. When the tide receded some water got trapped in a pool on the beach side of the sand bar which is the still water you can see reflecting the sky. I took this the first week I got my new camera and was really pleased with the result.

Thanks for stopping by and giving me your opinion.

Fantastic is a sand bar; it really looks like a bridge. It's perfect, you did a great job with your camera.
I love that line of separation, it makes me remember the phrase between heaven and earth and there is nothing hidden.

Thank you for your kind words; You always have something of value to add through your comments and it is appreciated.

I'm a huge fan of beautiful sunset photos. Excellent shots @galenkp. Love them all.
Hm, difficult to pick one ...I will choose "picture thirteen" as the colour, sky, sea, birds and reflection all blend together perfectly 😍

Lucky thirteen huh? Good choice. I remember this day quite well...I wasn't having a good day and decided to take a walk to see if I could find some clarity. I snapped this shot and a few others and just walked and walked trying not to think too much. [I have a way of overthinking]

At the end of the walk I felt a little better and later, looking at the shots, felt even better again...Looking at the image today when doing the post brought back the thoughts that made me feel a little down on that day but they didn't have the same effect, didn't pull me down...The power of a good sunset I guess...It's like an end-point...The moment before a new beginning.

Thanks for joining in and sharing your favourite one.

All the photos are amazing my friend it's hard to pick a favorite, but I'm leaning towards number twenty.
The setting sun has the perfect shape of a golden mountain, you have captured the movement of the waves and the water coming back, it makes you feel like you are standing on the shore of the beach with your feet in it saying goodbye to a wonderful day.

Hey there, thanks for coming by and for selecting a favourite!

Oh yeah, number twenty is a cracker, I love it. I like how the sunlight stains the water in places, that reddish glow, almost like hot lava. Also, those ripples at the front of shot make a nice contrast; Water coming in and running back out simultaneously...A juxtaposition, like life itself.

Thanks for commenting, I really appreciate it!

Thx for the prize bro, I really appreciate it!

You're most welcome.

At first glance, picture 2 stood out. I really love to see bird silhouettes against a setting sun backdrop. But after a second browsing of the collection, I felt #7 looked really pretty too. Love to see the Sun reflecting off the water, and then the shoreline as well. Has also a surreal look to it, like a sunset on Mars or something like that. So #7 is my favourite. That being said, this collection is really stunning! You should make an NFT of #7 on Lensy.io and I might buy it.

Another #7 appreciator!

@bashadow also likes this one and in my comment to him I mention the Mars-feel this particular evening at the beach gave me. The reddish light was pretty stunning really, especially when the sound of the ocean was added in...It was a nice beach walk and I'm glad to have this snap which brings back the memories.

I don't know how to do the NFT thing and to be honest never feel my pictures are good enough for anything but by blog. What I do know is that it was nice to gather these images and put them all together in a post. I was going to do collages but am pleased I ended up sticking them in all in a row. Thanks for your nice comments.

#goseven

Honestly, I never even read your comment about Mars. We both feel the same way. It's a winner!
Lensy.io is built here on the hive blockchain. Check it out.

Really, a great collection of photos!

They say great minds think alike...I think we just proved this.

Honestly. Hard to chose.
I love many of them, the colors, the sun, the clouds, the water, the silhouettes....
It's an ugly day here today, no sun, clouds, and rain so watching those 21 photos, besides the little market pump 😂, made my day!
Thanks for sharing them!!

No worries, thanks for your nice comments on my images and hopefully tomorrow is a better weather day for you.

And the mini-pump is most welcome. :)

Picture 18. It's almost like a computer-generated image, the sky could be the sea and if there weren't the silhouettes in it you could almost turn it any which way and just admire the textures of the light the water and the air and never have to care which was which. Not an entry I might add! :OD

Thanks mate, I'll be honest and say that I have no fncking clue how I manged to take some of these! Some are off my phone and some the camera and because I don't know how to photoshop stuff it is what it is. If I knew how to photoshop all of the images of me would look like some other more handsome bastard!

Thanks for your comment and selection...Winner!

Not really, Titans are exempt.

I like a TITANIC EXEMPTION! No idea why that is in caps, seemed like a Titan thing to do :OD

They are pretty blooming stonkin dude, they don't need no photoshop. Thats for bad/middling photos, not these!

Titans write in caps mate...Or any other way the want to.

damn...they are all cool.
ok... Nr.2 I think that sun and the light a forming a mountain in this photo. I really like that.

Thanks mate, yeah I was lucky to snap a few good ones over the last couple years.

I moved on to the photos after reading and #2 jumped out at me. Pinched (zoomed) in on the birds.

I thought this is easy pickin' on the Hive Booty me Pirate Ozzy friend...

Arrrrghhhh..!

I was mistaken, I moved on from #2 and spied a pier. What's this I exclaimed. Then onward I sailed to the one that tickled my fancy the most...

9

But I had to compare it to all the others now...

Not So Easy Pickin'

This easy Hive had turned into a quandry...

My OCD now in high gear. I struggle to choose as I lay here at 5am parked near my delivery site, pondering this decision...

Why #9..?

It reminds me of the endless road that I travel, not knowing my final destination, but knowing surely it will be sink or swim when I reach the end...

Thank You for the opportunity to gain a few Hive my brother from the other side of the world.

untitled.gif

So number nine huh? And a great reason for it too I reckon. I actually really like that one too, something about the straight lines in it and that night was really odd, the light was strange as were the cloud formations...It was a warmish sort of night but the air was heavy with moisture. A decent night.

Thanks for commenting and choosing. 10,000 hive coming your way.

Not quite that much.

No less than...

untitled.gif

Lol...

Me paying out your winnings. (Ok, a very white version of me.)

Waiting for a huge dip here. Probably throw a Hundo at Hive if it gets low, .10 cents /.20 maybe..?

Call me crazy, but I put some cash in Doge. Wish I had done it much sooner. We did a .12 cent buy in. Sitting with 6000 in doge coin. Hopes that it will turn into the poor mans bitcoin and makes the $250 mark.

The popularity of it makes me think it will do something big..?

untitled.gif

I don't know much about crypto really although am doing the CUB farming thing and have done ok so far...I have a few things, no DOGE though. I have a little here and there, certainly not enough to retire on.

First of all, I’ve never seen a “beautiful sunset” in real life before. Due to where I live and I’m from (Nigeria). Same also as experiencing winter. More often than I would like to admit I imagine how happy I’d feel seeing it for the first time, seeing snow for the first time too! I really can’t wait to experience it fully and I know it will definitely take my breath away. I mean I have a lot of screenshots of places like this on my phone and just wow!
Back to the post, lol. My favorite is Picture Nine, while I know it’s a photo of the sun setting, it kinda looks like it’s rising as well. And I can easily picture myself sitting on the bench, TAKING IT ALL IN!
I promise,I’m not jealous of you at all.

First of all, I’ve never seen a “beautiful sunset” in real life before. Due to where I live and I’m from (Nigeria).

I feel sad that you've never seen a beautiful sunset and hope that someday you manage to see one - I have a feeling you'll love it!

Number nine is one of my favourites too...I love the mix of the jetty with the shadows and the blue and orange tones.

Thanks for taking a look at my post and images and I hope someday you manage tp see a beautiful sunset.

I definitely plan to and working towards it coz it’s on my bucket list... and thank you too for putting all these in one place.! Saved a few of my favorites on my phone already and I hope that’s okay.
Good morning from my side of the world! 😊

Saved a few of my favorites on my phone already and I hope that’s okay.

This is ok provided you do not ever use them for any purpose other than looking at them yoursrlf. They are, of course, my images.

That’s a promise. I keep them to myself always.

Number 2 is my favorite.

The bird in mid flight against the orange sky in the background.
The other birds seem to be fishing for food in the sea.
Horizon looks a little like a linear rainbow 🌈 on the ocean.

Generally there is both stillness and movement in the shot.

A pretty good choice here I'd say, one of my favourites too. Believe it or not those birds weren't paid actors I'd brought in for the shot...Just wild birds doing what wild birds do.

Thanks for making a choice, and taking the time to come past in the first place.

No problem @galenkp. I like that you are always thinking of initiatives to encourage engagement on Hive.

I try...But one can only lead a horse to water, one cannot make it drink. Meaning, each user must make the decision to get engaged for themselves.

I agree. 👍🏻

Lot's of great pics, but I'll have to go with number 7. I like the pier in the distance (with any people) and the waves along with the color. It gives me the feeling of quiet and peacefulness of being further away. I can almost hear the waves lapping up against the shore, and the sea birds calling in the distance.

Nice group of pictures.

Hi Kris, #7 has been popular and is one I like a lot, same reasons as you really. It was a nice night, tranquil and enjoyable all round. Thanks for your choice. Imagine a drone flying around taking some video...No-fly zone though I think.

Lol, I was definitely thinking drone flights over the area. Not sure the drone laws there. Over here, there are now many semi-automated ways to request near real-time permission for NFZ's via cellphone or flight app as long as reasonable. I usually just avoid them, but around here I just have to avoid airports and a few other areas. You can check several apps to see what fly zones around you like B4UFly, AirMap, Drone Buddy, Hover, KittyHawk, Verifly, Drone Deploy, UAV Forecast, etc.

I've been taking a look at the regulations and there's opportunities of course, they're really quite strict though from what I can tell. There are places to fly of course and definitely apps to check as you point out. You know, yesterday I priced up some steel side steps to replace the factory ones on my Landcruiser...$1600...My thought...That's a decent drone! Lol.

Getting closer.

Why yes it is... hmmmm. Definitely more high fun tech than a different color step..

Think rock-slider not step, but yeah, more high-tech for sure.

Great shots! I didn't know you could watch the sun set over the ocean down there. We only get the sun rise up here.
My pic is 16. Love the colouring and composition.
I'm actually heading down to Port Lincoln this weekend so looking forward to watch the sunset over the ocean.

Thanks for your cooment and choice...And yeah, we get sunsets over water...I'd miss it if we didn't!

Port Lincoln huh? I'll be there this weekend too, for some camping and am looking forward to some great sunsets! Fingers crossed.

Wow that's crazy, Yep heading to Port Lincoln with some mates for my 40th, going cage diving with great whites. Fingers crossed we get to see one 🤞🤞
And looking forward to a sunset over the water!

Fuck dude...Not something I'll be doing, although I have thought about it a few times. 40th huh? I'm looking for a nice quiet time, some reading and all, some four-wheelin' and a few red sunsets...Hopefully you rabble aren't in the camp next to mine! Lol.

Have a great trip and 40th celebration...And just a tip for you...Don't get fucking eaten by a shark.

Sharks scare the shit out of me so I thought I better face my fears.

Nice sounds like a good time you have planed, and don't worry we have an air bnb for the weekend haha.

Realy looking forward to some time off work and catching up with good mates.
We should be all good as long as a shark doesn't decide to get into the cage with us.

Yeah, I'm not inclined to become a shark biscuit either. Still, that cage should keep you safe. Remember that footage from a year or two ago when one got in though? Don't worry about that though, won't happen twice.

I'm sure you'll have a great weekend and if I hear sirens all heading to the same location, your AirB&B I'll know you're getting after it.

Haha yeah that footage was crazy. But what's the chances of it happening twice hey.... Either way we will get some great footage 👍

Hopefully we won't upset the neighbours that much.

My choice shows the transition from day to night, the connection between life and death, old and new. There is no light without darkness and there is no darkness without light. Everything is. People seem to be in tune, contented, satisfied in the here and now. There is no hurry. It does not show any perfectionism. It's restless and yet calm. It's a little bit of everything, a symbol of ourselves. It makes me wanna be there, embracing the upcoming night. (12)

I like this one a lot too...The sky seems chaotic but the people on the beach are calm, just going about their evening at the beach. Your description, restless but calm is a good way to put it and yes, a reflection of ourselves, how we can be internally. Inner struggle and the calm we find when we overcome the turmoil.

Thanks for selecting a favourite.

All pics are great, really. You shouldn't underestimate your ability to take great pics period.
Restless but calm yah, it all can be in us at the same time.

I'm not one to talk myself up really, it doesn't feel right. Downplaying myself feels more fitting. And so I do.

But thank you, I appreciate the sentiment.

Ahhh I know exactly what you are talking about, believe me.
But once in a while you should step outside of yourself and value you. I learned it the hard way too and I'm not even there yet, but what I realized is that there is no need to constantly downplay when others are going high with crap. That's not right. Easier said than done, I know, but once in a while we should talk ourselves up.

You're right Anna. Smarty pants.

What I want you to do is pick your own favourite and tell me why...I'll throw some hive at the best ones, directly into the users' wallet. It's simple right?

Holy crap! after refreshing a dozen times my browser and after waiting here more than half an hour to fully load all the pictures of this post due my lousy internet connection. I was expecting to find at least a photo showing one of those huge marine alligators so common in Aussieland.

I even had in my mind the whole speech ready to explain in a very coherent and highly amusing way why I picked that one as my favorite to easily snatch you off those HIVEs directly to my wallet.

But once that all the pics finally loaded and seeing that there is none with alligators. Now I feel exhausted and confused as to try to choose another photo and elaborate a winning speech.

Thanks for taking a look despite your poor internet service.

They are all very nice, but I think I have to pick Picture Two. I thought it was water in the lower half, but the more I look at it the more I think it is wet sand. It just drew me in, and having to ponder what I was seeing kept me there.

Yes you're right, it is wet sand in the foreground. I'm actually standing in a sand bar pool on the beach, squatted down so the camera is low down. You can see some of the water-movement right at the lower edge of the image. This is one of my favorites because of that, the colour and light contrast and the birds.

Thanks for taking a look and making a choice.

Hard choice to make but I will take a round ticket to see number 2 , the bird reminded me of the song fly like an eagle ( eventhough this is a sea gull ) it’s freedom, and the best feeling. I could sit there for hours watching waves and clouds.

Great captures and I love Holland as my home country but yours is on the wishlist.

I dont want to be among prize winners No need to transfer hive when you pick my comment. That’s not why I viewed them.

What I do need is another picture. Something to do with a color that’s in these pictures aswell .... orange maybe !!!

Number two is a popular choice I think, one of my favourites too. I got lucky with the camera on this shot huh?

Australia is a beautiful place, there's no doubt, but there's other beautiful places around the world...I want to see them all.

Hmm, a photo of a certain G-dog rockin' his orange suit to work huh? Well, I'll be honest, I decided on classic blue today, not the orange...Maybe tomorrow though! 🙄

This is a very extraordinary picture.
Because I love the beautiful light in the morning at sunrise and the light of the beautiful sunset.
Your picture is amazing, because it is indeed my favorite image, the sunset eye light image.
I just posted about sunset pictures too.
Is it possible for you to see it.

Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it and will have a look at yours when I get a chance.

Yeah, thanks a lot, I really hope that.So that I will be more excited here, Leave your comments and criticisms there about my pictures.

I tried convincing myself to pick a different picture, but I keep coming back to Sunset 21. The longer I look at the sun, the brighter the picture becomes. 🥰 For me the picture radiates zeal and optimism. That after a long and tiring day, remember to celebrate, be thankful, and rest. Like the sun that sets only to rise again the next day--renewed, and energized.

Thanks for this picture @galenkp! 💛

Hey there, thanks for selecting one. I think #21 is a good choice and yes, when I wander along the beach here it's about finding a moment to break from my daily grind, societal pressure and stress, so I can transition to the real me, into my true-life, be reflective and find a centre-point.

THANK YOU @galenkp
I didn’t think I’d win coz my comment was personal. This made me really happy.
Thank you. Hugs and Sunsets 😄

Showing personality is one of the three things I look for from people on hive.

Passion, personality and effort.
