Interesting concept, and a politics front end would be quite a topical place. For the tokens, I'd see what LeoFinance is cooking up, I think a proper decentralized token creation system may be coming. @disregardfiat is also working on this area, as alternatives to Hive Engine.
@nealmcspadden has some experience with trying to start up a politics front end, just prior to the STEEM/HIVE wars and fork. @themarkymark and @whatsup were involved in that project also, could have some insights for you.

Yeah, it was successful during its short life in terms of engagement.
Just that whole hostile takeover and witnesses breaking the chain thing.
I think it was gearing up to be a huge success, but the split came. I don't think anyone wanted to restart from scratch just as we were getting up and running.

The project was talkingpoint, the tokens were point.
It was barely off the ground before the wheels came off the Steem wagon
I legit just understood that... before I was like: OK, they talked about the project and somehow the token was important - damn his english is bad xD xD

Lol I thought the same thing! I so love this platform, but sometimes I don't know if it's my eyes or broken english making it hard to read stuff, haha!
(About the eyes comment, I have glaucouma and cataracts, and it makes life a living hell as I try to use technology with less and less visual ability.

As a group we decided to not pursue the project. I still think it is a good idea and there is no question people love to debate politics and they would.
The reasons I didn't care to pursue it had more to do with the environment and lack of certainty with Hive's direction than the viability of the project.
I don't know if there will be SMTs, if the inflation changes, if they attempt to shut down the blogging apps all together. However for those who are willing to take those risks, I see huge opportunity.

It immediately came to my mind as well after reading the post, POINT was the token, if I remember correctly.

In the last, I agree, this is an interesting concept and many of the Hivians/Leofinancians would love to see it in action.
