The difference between having a weapon and using it when necessary is vast. When the right timing is not available, the weapon, no matter how powerful, is rendered practically useless. This is very similar to your "knowledge is power" explanation.
As people try to acquire skills, it is critical that they be able to convert their time and resources into value-generating activities. This is why we create: to be able to profit.
Speaking of working under pressure, it is a skill that can be learned and is extremely valuable, if not necessary. I believe it is because I know I prefer to make the best decisions whenever possible, especially when under duress. I don't want to look back and realize I could have made a much better decision in that situation.
