RE: Save me, please...

In the late 90s I walked away from the corporate world.

"The amount of work it has taken to earn often less than what I could get doing an average job is insane, so why not take on less work, less responsibility and the higher salary"?

Yes, my income at the charity is laughable, $574:82 per month, but I love what I do and I don't have a boss as the founder of Papillon since 2001. Before that I worked at several other Non Profits as a volunteer to gain the experience needed to start my own. The first year at Papillon I worked for free and during the early years mt salary was much less.

A few years ago an ex boss approached me to go and manage his Cobalt farm in the Congo at a starting salary of $4000 per month and a share in the profits.
What do you think this crazy did?

It is when I look back that I see the value that you are espousing here. In the business world there exists a saying that nobody is irreplaceable. This is a snide remark to keep all employees in line.
Thankfully there are some that cannot be kept in line under their controlling practices.
I recognized long ago that I was one of those.

Yes, it included many sacrifices, but today, almost 20 years later, Papillon has a record that many of the big charities don't have.

I have a great respect for all of those that take their lives into their own hands.
Yes, it is never easy, but where there's a will, there's a way!

This is the position of pretty much every entrepreneur too, unless they come from money. The work and focus may change, but the process is very similar.

And true, even the CEO is replaceable once there is more profit in another.

I have a great respect for all of those that take their lives into their own hands.

If everyone moved in this direction the best they could, the world would change in an instant.

Sadly I feel that parents play a huge role in this. But if you sit with millions without parents then you have a massive problem on your hands.

Educated sluggards are also another problem and this world is filled with problems of our own making my friend. We need new pioneers!

Sadly I feel that parents play a huge role in this.

Parents do and too many outsource parenting to the state. Obviously there are different issues in your neck of the woods.

We need new pioneers!

Absolutely.

Yeah, different issues as you say. HIV/AIDS, drugs, violence, accidents and so many other issues here that leave the children behind as orphans. Before we moved down here, our total of township children that Papillon supported was about 1500.

I hope that within my lifetime, I a get to see at least some change in the disaster that is humanity.

Well I hope with you my friend, but it seems that the days of the biblical Kings has returned.
Atrocities are becoming insane lately and that can only breed more intense evils.

Atrocities are becoming insane lately and that can only breed more intense evils.

It is worse than before, as we hold the collective knowledge of all our history and the most advanced set of tools ever created - and we are still acting as if we are mindless animals.
