How to win 170M voters.

How?

"A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok right now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!"

Pretty easily.

The majority of Tik Tok users are young, and like it or not, it seems that the "influencer" on the platform is pretty influential. But, that isn't saying much, because the consumer on the platform is well, pretty basic. Essentially, the ban in the US has ostracized the influencers with a large following by demonetizing them overnight, and 170 million people are going to be annoyed, especially since the reasoning behind the ban of "national security" is obviously a load of shit.

Governments are taking the piss.

Trump is no better. He is just as bad, just bad in a different way. He is looking to make America great again, for himself to benefit. The difference is, he is doing it openly, and still people support. The US political system and the current state of affairs exposes how much of a farce it all is, and it is contagious. It is like a magician showing how the trick is done, but still the audience believes it is magic.

TikTok is a scourge on human brainpower, though people don't fully understand what that means. Currently, the average user spends about an hour a day on TikTok, so let's think about this in terms of productivity, as that is what the economy cares about. In the US alone, that means that 170,000,000 hours are spent each day scrolling those short video clips. That is 7,083,333 days, or 19,406 years spent by US users of TikTok, every day. Put that into working hours, and an individual would have to work 8 hours a day, 7 days a week, for 58,218 years to make up for one day of TikTok consumption.

Small numbers add up.

A friend of mine at university decided to look at time as "units" that each equalled a half hour. So for instance, sleep was 16 units, gym was 3 units, watching a movie was 4 units and on and on. In his opinion, it made it easier for him to decide if something was worth doing. If "time is money" is being used, looking at average TikTok usage, what is the cost of those 365 hours in a year?

That is 48 days of work.
Do your math.

In Finland, the median income is around 4000 euros a month, and a month has about 22 working days in it. That means each day (before tax) is around 180€, so in "TikTok time" that is about 8,700€ a year. Would a new user be willing to pay that upfront in order to use the app? Unlikely. And while this is not quite how it works, we also have to consider that our time is valuable, and there is a cost to using it, no matter what we spend it on.

And of course, it isn't just TikTok, is it? It is Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, gaming, online shopping... Not only are we spending our time, we are also influenced to spend our money in the same places. Yet, we have no stake in these companies, and they aren't hiring people locally to benefit our near-world experience. While it seems insignificant for a ingle individual to waste some time or spend a little here and there, this is a massive collection scheme, scraping and skimming small amounts of value from billions of people globally and into a few centralised pockets.

It has an enormous impact on society.

But, what people focus on is the hype, the drama, the entertainment. While serious money is being made and we are experiencing the serious ramifications of our own consumer behaviour, we don't take any of it seriously. I don't mean that life should all be frowns, but the challenges humanity faces, and the challenges we face as individuals daily, are largely self-inflicted consequences of our own behaviours. They are symptoms of our own poor form.

People fight over whether the left or right is better, Harris or Trump, TikTok or Twitter - but the fact is, they are all fucking terrible, because they are all part of the same system, with the same agenda. They are all about control of resources to control us the people, so that a small fraction of society benefits at the expense of everyone else.

You vote doesn't matter, the way you spend your time does.

Spend it seriously.

At first I thought tictoc was the place where people go to look at other people's buttholes, but the neighbor told me it wasn't the same place. What do I know, I've never gone to tictoc. Makes me wonder though....how does the neighbor know that?

Those sites that you go to just to scroll around mindlessly for hours is such a time suck. You can literally sit and watch your life circling the drain. I don't spend more than 5 minutes looking at Facebook and I don't have the tictoc or Instagram or anything other than Hive. I did set up an Instagram to pimp my yarn but haven't used it since lol. I do use YouTube more than I'd like and Hive not as much as I'd like.

Goalzzz!

Politicians are always the lesser of two (or more) evils. I don't see them going away anytime soon

At first I thought tictoc was the place where people go to look at other people's buttholes, ...

This paragraph made me laugh!!

You can literally sit and watch your life circling the drain.

Perhaps it should be a thing to film yourself for a month, and then watch it back to reflect upon.

lol
It would probably surprise most people to really 'see' how they spend their time, or how much time they waste. I know I waste a fair amount of time but if it were put together into a lump sum of hours it would shock me, I'm pretty sure lol

It is like a magician showing how the trick is done, but still the audience believes it is magic.

I was just talking to my brother the other day about this exact thing. Trump has only exposed and brought into the open what politicians have attempted to hide behind the curtain.

The biggest trick is, people think that voting for him changes something in politics. It doesn't - all it does is create more social unrest, but still people believe the government is there for them, as we destroy each other.

It is Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, gaming, online shopping...

When I'm not raving or eating something tasty it's just Splinterlands and Hive!

Wish I had the first two on my agenda....

They're some of the only things that keep me going... besides the undying love of my partner that will find me in every life time!

I should say that it is a right decision, not for national security, but for the security of social morals.

Most of the places where the masses are, should be destroyed :D

Time is money indeed. Though I don't think banning of Tiktok in the US will make people make good use of their time, they will simply move to another social media platform. The best thing is mass enlightenment to help people understand the consequences of wasting time on social media. That's how I see it.

they will simply move to another social media platform.

Another Chinese one it seems :D

Time is one of the most important values in this life. A wasted life is a life not lived. On the one hand, the law in the USA has legitimate reasons. People do not just waste their time on Tiktok, I am sure they spend more time on more useless things.

No one can predict what Trump will do. He is not a principled person. We will see what he will do about Tiktok in the future.

On the one hand, the law in the USA has legitimate reasons.

Then, why isn't it applied to all companies that do similar?

No one can predict what Trump will do. He is not a principled person.

I think he would do what most people would do in office - do what helps himself.

I never used TikTok. But if all those 170 million people would move to Hive and invest 10 dollars each results would be interesting. One one hand Hive price should skyrocket. on the other hand I wonder what kind of content they would make here? Would Hive still be our Hive or would it change?

It would change quite heavily, but perhaps then developers would build real experiences for many different groups.

Unfortunately most people don't think like you. Yes, they are both bad. In US both parties are terrible there is no real third option.

Though I do vote, one terrible option is slightly better than the other. And I never watched TicToc and deleted Facebook seven years ago, but I do watch YouTube for entertainment...

Yes, they are both bad. In US both parties are terrible there is no real third option.

There should be no option. Just a government with roles available, and the best person for the role. The roles dictated by needs of society.

Very good points. I don't have a Tik Tok account. I don't plan on ever getting one. I've tried to explain to my nieces and nephews how toxic the platform is, but it mostly just falls on deaf ears. Crazy uncle Bozz saying crazy stuff again. :P

My niece thought I was the crazy uncle, until the majority of things I have said to her for twenty years, are now happening :D

well written, I wish 1%of the 170million would check out inleo shorts. Instead we will see people turning towards instagram and youtube to waste their time on…

Do you think the servers could handle 1.7M people?

No I don't think so. BUT it would give a bunch of people an intensive to spin up their own nodes for 3speak video storage and HIVE and HE. I say we try to handle the 1.7 million problem when and if it comes to it.

I think they’ll bring it back, and when they do I will dive in big time. In the meantime I’m going to grow over on Fanbase.

and when they do I will dive in big time.

What will you do there?

I do spend more time on social media before, but now I try to limit and discipline myself.

I try to spend more time on Hive and other platforms that is making me money. At least, my stay is worth it.

At least, my stay is worth it.

Getting anything is better. Not having anything taken is better too. And owning, is awesome.

It the best:)

We are here only to pass our time.Tiktok and any social platforms are helping people out to spend it smoothly. People (or any living being) who think just making money or embracing one's passion is being productive for himself or for the country or for the world, create no impact on the natural course of the universe or beyond.

So, we should let everyone pass their time how they like to. If people know being on social media is wasting of time, they should stop doing it but they won't because they find scrolling down is more fascinating than being productive at least for themselves. Our talking won't change anything.😭

Politicians are little smarter than others. They choose public service (sucking) to enjoy the power and authority enabling themselves to do anything desired. We work for our interest and they for their vested ones.

So, we should let everyone pass their time how they like to.

I am not so sure about this. IF for example, a child is raised to be okay with being in an abusive relationship as an adult, does that make it okay?

What I'm sick of all these influencers now coming up with moralistic reasons for keeping tt - eg 'it's mainly women who make money from it' rather than the truth which is they want to keep their easy income.

They can go to onlyfans - the funny thing is they are probably on there too...

It's a good hustle if yer young and pretty!

It's crucial to recognise the value of our time, and be mindful of how we spend it. "Spend it seriously"

i think both issues of tiktok & chinese products import tax increase- will b negotiated between trump & china, i expect them to reach an agreement where it continue to operate somehow & where more US products enter the chinese market- maybe something like for a company from 1 party to sell on the other party's land it must have at least 1 factory there that use local workers & at least half of what that company sells on the other party's land is made there. china is the factory of the world for the US to replace it with latin america, africa, south asia, south east asia it would take decades to get enough infra structure to do the replacement. also cheaper chinese products give more purchasing power to the average US,EU,CA,AU,NZ people so sure those people won't welcome the reduction of their purchasing power due to a higher import taxes specially that most of them pay more to much more for electricity, heating, transportation than they used to so most already lost part of their purchasing power. back to the tiktok issue f it's ok for the US to ban an app due to "national security reasons"- won't that mean it's ok for any country to ban any app for "national security reasons" with no more labeling it as "depression of freedom of speech", then what can the chinese secret intelligence do with people's data that the US secret intelligence can't do- isn't it the same thing. finally- some people use social media platforms as a host of their online shop, others use them to advertise their physical stores, others make content "content creators" & all those people make a living from or with the help of those platforms & their numbers increase everyday, it's said to b that 10s of millions of people around the world make a living this way- specially people from less developed countries with less jobs opportunities, so not all people but many make money from or with the help of social media. interesting post- have a good day

Yes, I heard about this.
