These types of posts are interesting.
A specific niche helps but what makes the real difference is a real clear vision from the founder who listens to the community (e.g. flat curation) and comes with new stuff constantly. Also, the fact that most whales are not short sighted dumb fucks helps.

Hear Hear... Vision is Key. HIVE doesnt have any. LEO does indeed. And: LEO delivers more in a much shorter time, is very open and transparent when eg things go wrong (eg wHIVE incident), something I dont see at HIVE. Flat curation may work for LEO, it may not work for HIVE (eg the 6th day stealth voting problem we faced before).
