Hive Is For People Who Want It

Almost 5 years ago, I wrote this article Steem Is For People Who Want It. It is amazing how much things change, yet still remain the same.

At that time, we were looking forward to Smart Media Tokens (SMTs). Of course, those never came into being and, as we sit here, 5 years later, we are still awaiting a robust smart contract platform that will allow communities to spin up tokens easily and inexpensively.

Nevertheless, we saw a great deal of progress in the ecosystem since the hard fork in March 2020. A lot of it was focused on the core infrastructure, something that was severely overlooked. Because of that, the scaling capabilities, at least for the foreseeable future, are enough to handle whatever we through at it.

Which brings us back to the basic essence of this ecosystem. Over the last 5 years, what has changed in the mindset of people on Hive?

This is what we will explore in this article.

@doze

The Hive Opportunity

There is a great opportunity on Hive. A handful of people on here realize it. However, the majority of people who came across Hive missed this fact. This is where the disconnect occurs.

In the early days, we can say there was a big problem with the idea of promoting Hive to get rich on a few articles. People were espousing how they made $1,500 on their first couple posts. This led people to arrive with the same mindset. Naturally, when they earned nothing, they got discouraged and left.

We also have the evolution of the ecosystem from that time. In addition to infrastructure, we saw a massive expansion in the applications, games, and communities. In short, there are a lot more choices as compared to before.

Choices = Opportunity

This is offering every user the opportunity to get rewards in many different ways. Most of these did not exist 5 years ago. What gets exciting is that logic would say that we can expect a lot more to be in place 5 years from now.

The Hive Opportunity is one of being a trailblazer. When it comes to cryptocurrency and blockchain, we are all early adopters.

You Have To Want It

Hive is for those who want it, not the ones who need it.

There is little doubt, when it comes to content creation, Hive offers one of the best packages available. We see the difficulty that people have gaining traction on the likes of YouTube. In fact, with that system, it takes 1,000 followers and something like 4,000 hours of viewing before one can even apply for payments.

With Hive, that can take place on your first video or two.

We often discuss the idea of approach Hive with a business mindset. Ultimately, due to the monetization aspect of things, each account is its own business. A revenue stream can be established, one which the individual keeps growing.

Those who want it on Hive stand out. We can see it in their actions. They are the ones who are regularly on the platforms, spending hours engaging and working on things.

Basically, we see them operating like any business owner. What does that entail? The willingness to do whatever is necessary to move the business forward. It means long hours and a huge level of commitment. However, the payout is believed to be great.

That said, there are no guarantees.

Hence, the question is do you really want it? It is easy to answer yes. Another way to phrase the question is "are you willing to put in the time and effort succeed on Hive"?

Fortunately, Hive's success is dependent upon the collective of the individuals on here.

But you have to want it.

Being A Big Deal

Most want to be a big deal. We want to feel that our efforts have an impact. The desire to reach a large audience is within many.

Here again, the question is whether one is willing to do what is necessary to get there. Most want everything handed to them. While many do get "lucky", the majority are at the levels they are because of the actions they took.

We can say what we want about influencers on YouTube, as an example. While many of them are full of it, the reality is, for the most part, it is a ton of work. They are regularly doing what is needed to maintain their following. It might look like sunshine and roses from the outside but it is a huge commitment.

Also, it often takes a long time to get to that level. These people operate for years, with thousands of videos.

Contrast that with Hive where people leave is they are not raking in the money after a handful of posts.

Is the problem Hive or the unrealistic expectations the individual has?

Hive is a grind. This is no different than any other business. People think it is easy when they see success. However, what is mostly ignored is the incredible amount of work that went in (and continues to be put forth) to get to that level.

For that reason, Hive is for those who want it. The ones who need it tend to have an unwillingness to dedicate at the level required.

The former are the ones who are creating the foundation upon which Hive success will be built.

Some things have not changed in 5 years.

I sincerely love your cover image... It makes me want to be poetic

I have always heard the phrase, "When opportunity meets preparation, success is inevitable", but Hive gave a Midas touch to that phrase.

On Hive, if anyone looks closely, they will see that action plus discipline equals Luck.

We can't say someone is lucky because of the rewards they get on their post after a while. We would be a bit wrong because certainly, we will be missing the puzzle... This puzzle is the quality of time, energy, and effort, these folks had put in to get there.

I wasnt referring to the rewards on here being lucky but the influencers on things such as YouTube.

There is a lot of opportunity here. We need to keep pushing it and help people to realize what is taking place.

The Hive where I am from two years now.I am learning more things here which I sometimes missed at steem. If sometimes I back with no reward but still I am not leaving.

I am damn sure that @hive will cover my all shortcomings and make me better.

@taskmaster is an inspiration and I am learning more from him.

There is a lot of potential here.

Your insight on hive is out of this world !! Your blog account is like a course to follow !! When does one start earning after posting and getting rewarded for the first time?

Just looked at your profile. The answer to your question is obvious - start writing your own stuff. Scrolled 20 reblogs and did not find one post

LOL. Why do that? Pay me for doing nothing is far easier.

Good work if you can get it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Click on 'All Posts', they've put plenty in the 'Sketchbook' community. Community posts don't tend to appear on the main blog unless reblogged (whether that's automatically or manually).

I think you got your answer.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Amen brother. YT's monetization pre-reqs are ridiculous for many reasons. They don't make a profit off ads, so they prevent the majority of users' accounts from reaching that 1000 subscriber count & 4000 hours of content watched. It isn't just about effort: the YouTube ecosystem favors those who create incendiary and divisive content, over those who just want to create.

Hive is for everyone, not just a miniscule "elite" of rich kids who buy followers and likes. Hive doesn't have the same pull, but growth is also organic, it's kind of hard to just BUY your way into popularity on HIVE - even with massive HP staked, nothing is guaranteed.

That's what brings me back here instead of blogging anywhere else. Real people writing real things for a real audience, even if it's just one other person.

LeoThreads has changed the game though. Engagement is far easier than ever before, and it shows in the MAUs and DAUs increasing since Alpha UI was released 2 weeks ago.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I agree, HIVE is for everyone. YT is now a thing of the past, it no longer exists for me.

LeoThreads brings microearning to Hive. While it takes 4,000 hours of video viewing on YT, a thread could get rewarded immediately.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I fully agree with everything you wrote.
It takes commitment and perseverance and far-reaching future vision, and then you can be as successful at Hive as you are anywhere else.

Many don't understand it, they think they have to get everything right away and when they don't get it, they give up... but I think it's not a great loss for Hive, it's rather they who are wasting an opportunity.

Today HIVE is a place for those who can see the future. Today there are not many of us, but that will change. !LUV

Anche io sono certo che il futuro sarà diverso; d'altronde si sa che i visionari sono sempre un numero ridotto all'inizio 😉

Yeah. It is true in all of life.

People want the quick fixes. Quick money. Quick weight loss. Quick knowledge.

Doesnt seem to work that way.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

No, I don't think it really works, the faster the climb is, the faster the descent will be... they say so and I believe it.

Great post ! A way to look at it, then, is that a prime source of new Hive users is from small business owners and entrepreneurs who understand that in the real world, there's no such thing as an easy "get rich quick scheme" - they are the kind of people who have already got the habits of dedication, persistence and hard work. The kind of people who understand that you need to go through the stage of a slow and unrewarding slog until you get to that point where it all starts to come together.

There is a big difference between a the mindset of a social media user and a business owner.

The latter is what is required for Hive. After all, there is monetization here.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Exactly ! Of course, I might be biased - I own a small business myself 😁 Sitting here flicking between reading Hive, creating website data, and taking product photos. The other big thing is that social media is often a "gratification NOW !" thing, while business owners have the ability to see future potential growth (including the benefits of compounding).

And in your business, I am sure you do whatever needs to be done.

In the end, it all is within your job description.

I called hive a platform of no requirement

To infinity and beyond. Hive has no limits!

Those cans look so delicious, I really want to have some. Drinking Hive juice will become true at some point, #pinkyswear

@doze is really teasing people with the drinks being created on Hive.

Hive offers one of the best packages available.

Recently I am sharing content on Hubpages but it is nothing like Hive, I have only shared about 6 content without earning a cent. I am content with building from scratch and accepting the little rewards that come in, there just isn't any out there that offers what Hive offers.
Hive is a real gem and a grind as well, I am a testimony of when you work it, it will give you results.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This appears to be a common story. There are many platforms (Web 2.0) that take a long time to even start earning.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think getting upvotes take like years for some accounts. Like literally some accounts would not have following easily here either. And the thing is most of the creators can't spend all the time with hive on one tab as that would keep them away from the content creation and overall success funnel. Hive takes a lot of time and commitment to grow the account. We can't compare it with youtube and tiktok yet. Hive has no success story that could go viral on youtube and tiktok yet.

How much time does it take to stand out on YouTube and Twitter? How fast do most accounts grow there?

Then look at the payouts. Who is really making money?

For most, Hive offers something that other platforms do not. At least there is a chance to get rewarded here.

Look at LeoThreads. People are getting upvote and getting a minimal amount of Hive plus LEO. That is more than they most make on Twitter and YouTube.

Dear @taskmaster4450 , in my case, I practice yoga, at the initiative of one of the leaders of a community in Hive, it has allowed me to improve my physical and mental health, because I not only limit myself to making publications, it was a starting point for each day practice yoga. Regarding the economic benefits perceived in Hive, as a result of the cures, they have allowed us to solve food and medicine problems, in this sense I value Hive and I continue in it, despite the limitations of receiving few cures in the first months of the present year, but with work and optimism they will come. Your post is very motivating. Successes from Cumaná Sucre state-Venezuela.

That is why I love what is taking place in countries like yours. We are seeing a significant impact in the lives of everyday people. It is not about getting rich, it is about the basics...at least to start.

From there, we can move to the next level.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

It is very true dear @taskmaster4450le , and not only me expresses it in Venezuela, all of us who are in Hive, every time we have meetings, which have been very cordial, we say "Being in Hive represents, a way to solve some needs socioeconomic basics, that work is difficult in our nation, with a minimum salary of 130.00 bolivars, that is, 6 dollars, which is in Venezuela at 24.36 bolivars", excuse me for repeating it, but Hive has been the formula to solve this situation. Thank you for your understanding and guidance. We will continue to grow in Hive, this is expressed by a 70-year-old Retired Professor with 43 years of service in education in my country. successes.

For me, one of the cool things about Hive is precisely that each account potentially can be "its own business" with its own focus and revenue stream.

But beyond the surface, that can also be anything from the full-time blogger/content creator like yourself, to an occasional hobbyist/photographer, to the "play to earn" enthusiast to the person with a specific interest, whether it's art, gardening, writing or something else... who can use Hive's features in the way they might have used "Facebook groups," except here you can actually build something, separate from fears of being deplatformed/demonetized.

To this point, Hive's primary "achilles heel" seems to be the 7-day rewards window. Content creators are used to "views" counting for something, "from now to forever." I realize that's not going to change, but it does present a challenge, in terms of how Hive is "presented" to potential new users.

Those will be the ones who want to be on Hive.

=^..^=

It is going to be amazing when the second layer stuff starts to excel. The opportunities will only grow then.

I honestly feel like hive has a lot of possibilities the issue still is however real front facing UI development and applications for people to use. While there is finally some work and some now breaking ground it still feels like far too little to make a drastic impact and I'm curious if core devs need to either pick up some of these large projects or do better on the backend of hives blockchain for easier development from devs to build these applications.

I genuinely appreciate your brilliant thoughts as always, Sir and I am truly learning from the insights that you are sharing to one and all. I so agree with you that Hive is for people who want it.

The situation that you have cited was actually so true, when some users come here and get bigger rewards, they were excited and thrilled but when time comes for slower rewards, little by little, some were leaving Hive although some are actually busy with life.

At first, I came here for the token but when I learn to know more about Hive, I am not here for my first goal anymore but I am staying here for the community and for the Hive Ecosystem as a whole along with my long-term goals in the blockchain.

Have a great day Sir and keep safe.

Thank you.

Hive is definitely for people who want it. If you want to be successful here, you have to be consistent. Otherwise, it will be hard to stand out amongst the masses.

Compounding incorporates time. So yes it does take time for things to grow.

However, that is where the exponential curve comes in.

Compounding and exponential curve, I like that! 😄

Call me crazy, but I've never felt more positive about the future of Hive than I do right now. I'm starting to see more and more "new" (to me), people hanging around and becomming regular contributors.

Sometimes I think their can be too much of a focus on post payouts and not enough on creating compelling content that will attract new people outside of Hive.

Part of my plans going forward, is to not worry about how many upvotes my posts get, and to buying more $HIVE and $HBD as I believe those tokens are way undervalued considering what we bring to the table. "Build it and they will come" indeed...

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am with you. I get more optimistic about what is going on with Hive each month that goes by.

There is no doubt rewards are a focus and that is fine. We all want to get paid. However, we need to take the long term view.

Part of that is the opportunities arising. We are seeing more ways to start the spigot of rewards coming in. With more tribes, communities, and applications, we see it growing.

Where will all this be in 5 years.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I am new here but understood this publish by @taskmaster4450 with total accuracy. Rewards come to those who have worked hard for it. There are no quicker ways to climb to the top mountain except by slow and steady with focus 💪. This post is so motivating @taskmaster4450

Getting involved helps with the rewards. Engagement is important.

You took the time to leave a thought out comment and got a small upvote.

It all adds up.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I totally feel you as I've been on hive for 5 years too (this year I'll celebrate 6) and we did see a lot during this time. But while some promises never happened, I think we can both agree that progresses has been made and we are on the right direction even if we follow small steps :) patience is the key!

Hive is completely different as compared to 5 years ago. A ton of stuff was altered.

Yes it is often slow. As I posted elsewhere, you have Bitcoin that moves like an oil tanker versus Solana which changes every 3 minutes.

Hive is in between.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I think HIVE is for people who want and believe in decentralization of information. I believe that this is the main mission that HIVE could achieve. HIVE has a control system on abusive content, also has its own internal economy that can support those who make excellent information. !PGM

Without a doubt. We have to desire it and be willing to go for it.

This is where we stand out.

In the early days, we can say that there was a big problem with the idea of promoting Hive to get rich with some items. People were saying how they made $1,500 in their first few posts. This made people arrive with the same mentality. Naturally, when they didn't win anything, they got discouraged and left.

This is very true, many people think that getting here, making a simple publication will earn millions of money, this must be quality content, that other people are interested in the subject, apart from that it needs dedication, to demonstrate to another that you are here, who has a sense of belonging wishes the best to the platform.

Hive has changed the lives and economy of some, even the mentality, when you didn't think about investing before, now you do.

When you sell to Hive just by making money for a post, a lot of people here will come with that mentality.

I love that new drink, nice image

You are doing well on LeoThreads. The opportunities are expanding. It is good to see people taking advantage of it.

I have been around a long while - August 2016. I got some good coaching and my introductory post made $1300.

I have watched post rewards go up and down. It is still like that. The truth is I get paid every time I put pen to paper to write up a daily journal or an investing journal (#644 just published) or a crypto journal. Yes I could do a lot better in different communities with the same stuff. Truth is the journalling helps me. If I help someone along the way, that is a bonus even if I do not get a vote.

The best part is if Hive price goes up, my first post gets a lot more valuable.

Thanks for being here and for keeping this platform alive and free. The next few years in crypto land we will find out how important that will be

The best part is if Hive price goes up, my first post gets a lot more valuable.

That is a good point and one that gets overlooked. When taking the long term outlook, we can compound the value of our rewards by seeing the price appreciate.

What happens if $HIVE reaches $5.

Thank you for sharing this insightful post about Hive and the opportunities it presents to those of us who are part of its community. As someone who has been active on Hive for a while, I can attest to the fact that the ecosystem has evolved significantly over the past few years.

One thing that I appreciate about Hive is the emphasis on approaching it with a business mindset. Each account can be viewed as its own business, and there are many opportunities to establish a revenue stream and grow it over time. However, as the post rightly points out, success on Hive requires a significant level of commitment and dedication. It takes time and effort to build a following and establish oneself as an influencer.

I also appreciate the emphasis on being a trailblazer on Hive. As early adopters of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology, we have the opportunity to shape the future of this ecosystem. It is exciting to think about what new developments and opportunities will arise in the coming years, and I look forward to being a part of that growth.

Overall, this post serves as a valuable reminder that Hive is for those of us who want it. Success on this platform requires a willingness to put in the time and effort required to achieve our goals. Thank you for sharing your insights on this topic, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Hive and its community.

I try to convey that Hive is a long term system. A lot is happening but none of it is going to be next week. Looking at our accounts and Hive as a whole over a 5 year time frame is vital.
