Leo Pride - Farming the Community For Ideas

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

How do you grow a Social Media Project?

I like the idea of Social Media above the idea of "Blogging". Meaning create a network of friends, people with common interests and be social (engagement), Have fun and be part of a community.

As a result of that connection an economy and better information develop.

Leo already has a fair start on the community, but we can do better.

In a past life when I worked in a Corporation that served a very specific customer base, I found that the end users of our products almost always had better ideas on how to expand our offerings and grow our products.

The Network Effect - Where People Gather An Economy Develops.

image.png

The first goal is to onboard people to the community, in the case of Leo we are looking to add people who are interested the discussion of various investing and financial topics.

As the user base grows it becomes more valuable, others come to join the community, but also to buy, sell, barter and launch projects.

So, let's talk about how do we attract new users to the discussion of Crypto projects and other inve here on Leofinance.io?

In the comments please share your ideas, but also how you got here.

Did you find Leofinance first or Hive?

Alright lions, Let's hear it..

I have seen some people say blogging has a limited audience. That may be so, but we probably still have plenty of growth potential. We could have more reddit-type discussions too. I am not against short-form posts and people can decide what those are worth. I've seen some doing that sort of thing with dbuzz.

I'm not so into discussing crypto all the time anyway. I want a good mix of topics and content.

!PIZZA

I'm much more interested in social engagement than blogging, but nothing stops people from writing a blog and discussing it.

The only thing that changes is we don't insist every post is a blog.

Engagement creates traffic, fun, interest and a community.

For many, a blog is work.. not fun.

I agree there are some challenges around price discovery.

I just think we should not set any limits on the sort of posts people can create, apart from not abusing the system with plagiarism etc. Not everyone is a blogger. Short-form content is very popular on other platforms and we want a slice of that action.

Every post is a blog. Problem is some people have a narrow definition of what a blog is. Short-form can be, long-form can be, personal reflections can be, factual articles can be. Blogs are as varied as anyone wants them to be.

Take a look at Seth Godin who has done short form blogging for years.

Videos and single images can be posts too. Put it all in the mix to suit all audiences.

Hey @shadowspub, here is a little bit of BEER from @steevc for you. Enjoy it!

Absolutely

I agree with you engagement create fun, since have been engaging I have been meeting new social friends and it is really lovely

@whatsup! I sent you a slice of $PIZZA on behalf of @steevc.

Did you know you can earn $PIZZA daily by delegating HivePower to Hive.Pizza? (7/10)

  1. I would remove the penalty from posting to Leofinance from other frontends, and instead pay in staked LEO instead of liquid LEO for those users. That will give those people a direct incentive to become more intertwined with the main community, and take away the disincentive to get involved to begin with.
  2. I would consider making multiple main feeds for LeoFinance. E.g. Main, Fiat, Crypto, Games and DeFi. Each feed would have a somewhat different logo and would focus more specifically on these main crowds out there. The main would combine the best from all others.
  3. Have a clearer policy on what gaming content is appropriate for Leofinance, and stimulate users to share that content here (there's a huge body out there).

Just a few ideas :).

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I like that too because I post about 10-20% of my content with the leo tag, I don't use the frontend because it's not where most of my audience is and most of my content overlaps with other topics but I'd love get to know leo people a little better

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I love the multiple feed idea. I've been wanting to talk NFTs but not a lot of that here.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Someone has got to do it to get it rolling, talk those NFTs!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I found steemit (via tubers) then hive and then Leofinance.

I love the portal and topics.
Sugg:
An idea would be a top10 investment list (crypto and/or stocks) plus link or tag to posts about this top 10. (A vote for inclusion in top10 should be added)
We need some targets as a group. What do we wanna achieve?
More advertisements and clickig on them to add income for Leocommunity (share a little)

I still find it hard to store or find back interesting posts about subjects that interest me.

IMO network effect means " let people build". and not on a technical point.

Community building.

If we look back on how other social networks work, they start with group ups.

People that have the same interests group up and invite more ( or tell about).

For the Network effect, we need more basic tools here ( easy to understand and to use).

In general things for higher user experience.

Next needs a smooth process on " how to use". These are 2 big factors. Solution for that = moon. And for sure a reduction in Hive wallet creation costs. Pay twice for 1 user sucks. Marketing + onboarding fee. It is a disadvantage to web2, a massive one because it eats revenue. Only some dapps benefit from the tools hive delivers.

LEO does good and tries things out. But there could be done much more in terms of revenue generation, PR and SEO/marketing.

I actually first found Steemit before the hardfork. Waited for things to stabilize and decided to take a bite about a month ago.

Onboarding shouldn't be that hard since good content is highly incentivized here, based on my own experience.

I think collaborations are a great idea to get attention of good content creations. For example, we could vote on a budget that could be given out as prizes for the best articles on Leo and Hive published on Publish0x.

I am also personally considering to increase my personal reach by doing some serious research and publishing content on all crypto-related platforms. By that, I mean sharing all published articles from LeoFinance on these external websites with a link back to the original.

Affiliate marketing always gives results as long as the incentive is right.

Lastly, I think that a lot of great content creators would leave Reddit for LeoFinance if they knew how good we got it here. There are tons of great threads floating around at /r/cryptocurrency and other crypto-related sub. Doing one AMA in any of them would definitely spread the word about the Hive ecosystem.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I first found Steemit through moneyhoarder.com then Steemleo started, then hive, then. Leofinance.

I was going to suggest writing contests....but I fear it won’t bring the type of users we want.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah, most people are not aspiring bloggers or writers and it limits the target market to aspiring bloggers and writers and that is a very thin Niche.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

This is like the leotalk? I like that there are more projects like this, it helps to integrate the community.

I came to steemit in 2017, then I left and in 2020 I came to Hive and months later I came to Leofinance and so far almost a year later I'm still here and I don't think about leaving.

@whatsup! I sent you a slice of $PIZZA on behalf of @sgt-dan.

Did you know you can earn $PIZZA through Hive-Engine Diesel Pools? (1/10)

Thank you @pizzabot and I am sorry for the @leopuma comment. Forgot that all my staked PIZZA tokens are on my @sgt-dan account and none on my @leopuma account.

Sorry: GIPHY.COM

Well, the simple example of the network effect can be the domino effect. The network effect once the product gains which is almost every crypto is trying to gain, while BITCOIN has already gained, is the most important thing. And it happens at a really big level so the growth and demand for the product are exponential. You can look at FACEBOOK.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

True the hard part is creating critical mass.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

@whatsup,
This blockchain should have a custom_json based Twitter type application that is not directly bound with our blogging platforms.
I mean this kind of effort was tried before but it became spam of our feed section. So, I think (somehow) custom_json can fix this issue with its limits & easy to read those data by using a separate application.
Honestly, I didn't try this yet. Hope to test this idea & I hope there are a lot of devs here. So they can try something that might not spam the blogging section - feeds & it can be used as a DAPP which could replace Twitter. (short messages)

Cheers~

Wasn't that what project blank was supposed to do?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

@whatamidoing,
No idea about project blank~

I wonder if short form content will make the place more 'social'. r/cryptocurrency has 3.4 million members and part of it is the network effect with the rest of reddit but I think it is also because there was no pressure. The moons are changing that though, imo.

That's exactly right, but we put so much pressure on our users. Most people are not aspiring authors and most posts probably shouldn't earn much, but..

The writers can still write and the community doesn't have to shame those who just want to hang out and talk crypto.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

All I hope to see is the support of little projects. #dcc is a project of proof of curation. People just have to promote others and post in that tag. That will help curators to find good content and authors to be promoted. It's hard to make a little project grow unless you have a lot of money to invest in. I wish little projects supported more by big players. Sometimes it's better to support a new idea and make it grow, rather than keep pushing on the old one that's not working. We are also creating a movie in @dcooperation and I hope we will find more support. We just need people to share their videos, how they joined hive, how they like it here, communities they like, etc.... They don't even need to show their faces, but only talk and to show something in the video, or at least send audio and I'll add free videos on the top of that. It will be good if you write about the idea. We need a few posts in the trending about this. We need help !

we need a dev to make games and other apps (even a simple faucet) that uses leo as currency. We cant expect everything from khal

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I would like to see a lot more projects built outside of our development team and with my direct oversight.

I’ve offered this privately to some people but if you want to spread the message publicly, it could be more effective:

We would gladly sponsor anyone who would like to buidl anything that utilizes LEO. Whether that’s an NFT game on Hive, a game elsewhere or maybe just any sort of app idea that someone has which could put LEO to work as the currency. Development funds, general advice, etc. are all available to anyone willing to put in the work to buidl something along these lines!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That's a great idea! Love it

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Network effect is key.

But it is more "simple" was anyone thinks. You have to recruit new users one by one and make their experience very good so they stick around and share it with friends/relatives. Once the train is going, you just have to not "fuck up" and it will be smoothly.

The Leofinance app is definitely the 1st step in my opinion.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Yeah the app and the community engaging and being friendly are big parts of it.

Also unlike our parent company, when correcting people, be kind and set gentle expectations.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Found Sxxxm, then Hive, then LEO Finance.

I think engagement and discussion are key to building the community. I think we need to interact with people on existing platforms outside of Leofinance and show them this is a place for insightful (and respectful) dialogue.

Posted using Dapplr

Agree! Engagement, fun, and a non-stressful culture.

I found out Steemit a few years ago when I was searching the internet for ways to create secondary streams of income. I didn't understand it at all at first so I quit not long after creating my account. Fast forward to January this year, I was once again looking for ways to create multiple streams of income and I decided to give Steemit a second chance. Fortunately, I found out about Hive and then LeoFinance and here I am.

Personally, I think this community could be more user-friendly. There are a lot of technical terms and things you can do on the blockchain that can be a bit overwhelming to the so-called "normies". To make things worse, the information is not readily available and people have to do quite a bit of searching to find their way around here.

If we had an updated knowledge base or a "training center" for newcomers, I think our user retention could be improved.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

We really do need to provide easy help and help topics, thanks for the feedback!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Downvote? Well see the comment from @leopuma and I believe that will explain the reason why I took this drastic action. I do not know why @acidyo and @takowi downvoted you, but my decision to do so was in no way influenced by either of them.

Self-voting one's own post is bad especially by a WHALE. Bad form. @hivewatchers are scared of WHALES. I am not!

No problem. I've always upvoted my own posts up to once a day.
It's a valid reason to hold Hive.

Anyway, I think it's petty but,
I appreciate active curation and support it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thank you for replying to my comment. It is all about engagement is it not? I hope you understand this being one of the new curators for the @leofinance account and its importance and influence.

Being one of the Top 100 HOLDERS of $LEO as well as a dolphin as far as HIVE is concerned; I believe I have a dog in the run of rewards of both HIVE coin and LEO tokens. I talk the talk and walk the walk. Always have and hopefully, G-D willing, always will.

I would really like to see more of you in @leomarkettalk sharing your views and helping with the answering of questions with new folks. I do not speak for @leomarkettalk. The only thing I run there is my pie hole.

I am not paying you (well, technically then again I am), but as you are now a @leofinance curator? Probably would not be a bad idea.

You know me kid. I don't mince words.

Project blank will do that. I wish we could have it since the beginning of the bull market, but it's never too late.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I wish we could've had it a year ago, but if it takes time to create something like that, I understand. We have D.Buzz now, but as much as I do like that service, it's not the same as what PB is aiming to be.

I've been kicked off of Twitter three times now and I'm not planning on trying to come back. I don't even say that crazy of things. Twitter's issues with me seems to be that "wished harm" on people.

@leopuma, sorry! You need more $PIZZA to use this command.

The minimum requirement is 20.0 PIZZA liquid, and 0.0 PIZZA staked.

More $PIZZA is available from Hive-Engine or Tribaldex

Well that is pretty ass-backwards. I staked PIZZA so I could give PIZZA! Earlier you said I had 8 slices left. I need to reevaluate some stuff here!

I know why you brought up Metcalfe's law, but that isn't what I am talking about.

When people lived in caves they gathered to trade bones and furs.

Trading posts have bloomed into cities

Are port cities are some of the largest in the world with the most diverse and sustainable economies.

Because anywhere people gather, others come. For company, for trade, to preach, to sell, to buy.

And it's just a natural law.
