I want something like this... for a fraction of the price. Part 5: Audi R8 V10

This is the current Audi R8

Audi has used the R8 name since 2006. The R8 is Audi's 2 seater, mid-engined sports car and it is a car that really changed the way we see sports cars today.
Back in 2006 Audi wanted to take on cars like the Ferrari 360/F430, but undercut the price of them. They wanted to bring high-end sports car ownership to a wider audience. The Audi is great, not only does it have the looks, performance and handling, it is also a great everyday car- plus it is supposed to be reliable.

Fast forward to 2015, and Audi bought out the 2nd generation, which I think will be replaced in 2022. So it's worth considering waiting, in case the 3rd generation quickly lowers the price of the Mk2.

The Audi R8 has and still is available in a Coupe and Cabrio version, but today I will focus just on the coupe!

As you can see, they aren't too expensive brand new, for this kind of car, but saying that it's out of my league brand new.

What could you buy, instead of buying the cheapest brand new...

A 3 bedroom villa in Cyprus (which would be my choice)

2002 Fairline Targa 40

These are just a few of many items which I'd consider.

Now, how much is the cheapest way into an Audi R8, with no recorded crash damage.

£74,990

That's the kind of money you will need to get into Generation 2 R8 ownership.

That's exactly how much this 2016 Audi R8 5.2 FSI V10 S Tronic Quattro is.

What a beauty, and to be honest it hasn't lost as much as some other cars of this type, but it is still a bargain. Ok, the miles are higher than average for this type of car but, they are still quite low in the real world, and if you are like me and don't drive much, then this kind of milage will soon be under the average.

Compared to the cheapest NEW R8 with no extras added on, the cheapest used R8 is about just over £43,000, less.

Now, let's say, £43K is too much to lose on a car, well the next option is to buy a first-generation R8.

The cheapest R8 is up for

£30,500.

For that, you get a 2007/2008 4.2 FSI V8 R Tronic Quattro with 77,400 miles on the clock.
In my opinion, the first generation is a much better-looking car. It was unique, it was elegant it was perfect in my eyes. In my opinion, the second generation looked too much like the baby TT...

The crazy thing about the first generation R8 is, they have been £30,000 for years. They don't seem to drop any lower than that.

The cheapest V10 first-gen starts off at about £46,000

Oh before I finish off here, you can also buy the Audis sexy Italian sister. Yep, a Lamborghini Gallardo. The Lambo and R8 are basically the same car, for £15K more.

What would your choice be????

Sort:

The R8 Spyder is the one we'd have, that V10 is like a symphony, and the power delivery is rather impressive, it would have to be a 1st gen too, the curvature is beautiful, randomly very easy to drive every day too, fantastic choice @mattsbeamer

Probably take the Lamborghini version.

Thank you. I would too, but then again, the R8 will be so much cheaper to run. lol
