The Wheeler Dealers £500 1988 Toyota MR2. What are they worth now?

So back in 2004, Mike decided to buy a Japanese sports car, which had an engine in front of the rear wheels, which made it Mid-engined like a Ferrari, but for a lot less money. The car in question is a 1988 Toyota MR2.

MR2 stands for mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive, 2-seater. The original MR2 was released in 1984 (which is the same year as me) and it had the code name W10.

There were 3 engines to choose from. The entry version 1.5 known as the AW10 and the 1.6 were called the AW11. One version of the AW11 had a supercharger. There was the choice of 2 engines, a 4-speed auto, or the nicer 5-speed auto. image.png

The MR2 was a very light car, weighing just over a tonne. The later versions weighed a bit more at 1.131kg.
The handling on this car is supposed to be amazing, due to working with Lotus.

How much Did Mike pay?
£500
What had to be done to fix it up?
New boot lock
New ignition barrel (where you start the car up from).
New alternator as the car wasn't getting any charge.
New fan belt
Front n/s Wing
windscreen
backbox on the exhaust
refreshing up the alloys
new tyres
A good old polish
A good service

All for just over £700 which brings the total up to £1278, which is way under the £2000 budget.

What did they sell it for?
£1900 which gave them a profit of £622.

What do they sell for these days?
Not many for sale, but they go for about £5000 for a cheap one and £10000 for an expensive one.

Not many of those here in Australia.

Oh really. They are great little cars. I remember there was a company that made BMW M1 replicas with them lol

Nice post - mind you, I wouldn have kept it! 🤣
