Literally anything else

I don't for a moment believe my work defines me as a person or my life in general; it's a means to an end and I work because because I'm working towards a goal which is to have a greater ability to do the things I enjoy doing rather than having to go to work. One is helping the other become a reality right now so I work, including on the weekends sometimes.

One of the ways I make it easier to work on the weekends is to think about all the things I have done and love doing. It makes me happy and excited for the present and future.

I have a lovely life with comfort, excitement, relaxation and entertainment and a beautiful house to call home; but the most important things are my health, happiness and the guy who shares my life and while we need finances to fund our lives we are most grateful for those things. We're also grateful for the opportunities our hard work and good decisions give us, one feeds the other I suppose; the work gives us opportunities to lead fulfilling lives and that gives us the impetus to keep working for that very same thing; fulfilled lives.

The #weekend-engagement topic asks what I would rather be doing than working on the weekend and I think it's a great question because unfortunately many people can't actually list the things they like doing; I think that's because they are so collared by their jobs, or maybe it's because they're boring and unimaginative people; I'm neither.

I'd rather be...Sleeping, playing with my cat, reading on the couch, having bubble baths, snuggled on the couch with my guy watching a series, working in or watering my garden, walking on the beach in a bikini that compels my guy to look, on a road trip, having a picnic, antiquing in small country towns, flying to Europe, chatting over coffee and cookies with my guy, having lunch with my friends, planning our next trip overseas, enjoying our next trip overseas, coloring in and painting, making a special dinner and having an intimate night at home with my man, changing my bed linen because I love fresh sheets, having bubble baths - yes I know I said this already - packing our equipment to go camping, hiking in a secluded wilderness location with my guy, making love under the stars, swimming naked with my guy, snoozing on the couch, sneaking into my guy's hammock and snoozing, snoozing in the middle of the day, snoozing before taking a snooze - you get the idea - at the library picking out my next book, having coffee with my guy at a cafe and people watching, watching my guy do his hobbies and other things he does, laughing because my guy makes me laugh, pretending to help wash the car while he's actually washing the car looking at me in my bikini...and a million other things.

You probably get my point...I'd rather be doing anything else than working on the weekend because life is so exciting and vibrant and is, in my opinion, there to be used well and by doing things that bring enjoyment, happiness and fulfillment. Work does not do that for me. I get satisfaction out of my job, I like it, but it's simply a means to an end.

Aye I love this statement. I totally feel for this statement! Working hard now so I have that freedom later as well as not to worry about financials! Hopefully can be well off enough, to be focusing on guiding others and making society better through volunteering and stuff ;D

I have been working for long enough to know the value of working hard, efficiently and with a goal in mind. I have also been around long enough to know the value of life and how quickly or unexpectedly it can be taken away. So I work towards finding balance but never forget that life is more important than work.

Good luck with your endeavours, but remember, it's never too early to focus on others with a view to improve their lives, and consequently your own; it doesn't always require money.

Oh yes I believe you since you are older than me~. For sure life is more important but sadly to do the things I want in life it needs money :(. Can't travel, can't eat nice food. All of that will need to work for that $$ haha.

Thank you so much! I'm reaching my 30s in a year. I still "think" i have a lot of time haha and I'll definitely make sure I balance it with friends and family as well :D

I remember a few years ago, there was a need to work on the weekend. We had a project that needed to be finished. It couldn't be paid, but for every day of the weekend that I work, I would earn a day off that I could spend whenever I wanted. I accepted and thus earned a large number of days off. On one occasion, my boss asked me when I would spend those days off and why it shouldn't be November and December... My friend, I gave my weekend days to the company when it needed it. I will spend those earned days off when it suits me (and when I need it), not when it suits the company. He agreed and has never asked that question again since then 🙂 Here it is on Friday, when I had an action with changing the bed in the bedroom, I spent one of those days...
And I absolutely agree with you, I would work over the weekend but absolutely anything, that has nothing to do with working in the company to which I give every day off the weekend (only I wouldn't wear a bikini).

I work when I need to and considering I own my own business am able to set the hours and days I work; it's a nice situation but owning the company means there's other aspects to it as well and there's a lot of stresses and challenges to face. When I work on the weekend it's because I have chosen to do so and probably also means my partner is working at his own job as well so it make sense I guess.

Also, if you ever decide to wear a bikini, I think it would be deserving of a Hive post...if you dare. 🙃

Yes, so that they kick me off the blockchain 😀

I remember when my brother started his business, a restaurant, he mentioned to me: "Now I'm going to rest a little".

He did not know at the time how many obligations he had in running his own business, but it is true that the owner himself determines how much and when he will work.
The rest of us work when we are asked to.

You might not get kicked off, you might become it's biggest star.

Many people don't have a clear idea of what they like to do instead of working.... when asked what they like to do they say I don't know... and they have told me to my face and I think.... how can you not know what you like to do? But it happens a lot.

In my case I also work many times at weekends, but I leave myself some space to do those things that I like because, as you say, it is a means to an end.

Hugs Becca.💗

I agree, and most people don't have a clear idea of why they are working other than to cater for their consumerist wants. It's quite sad that a person may have no real answer to the question of what they like to do.

They look like automatons in this society without a purpose in life.
