Let it be known here and now that clear and concise photographs weren't possible back in the stone age. That being said, this photograph was taken in the mid 60's and shows my sister (front) and myself (back). We lived in the suburbs but spent alot of time in the country with my grandparents. Those times are treasured memories for me as I loved being outside, in nature and with the farm animals.
There were cows to milk and piglets to play with, chickens to chase and puppies and kittens for company. While the town kids were swimming in their pools, we donned the undershirts of our grandfather and headed out to play in buckets. Did we feel deprived? Not a chance. We lived in a farming community and most of the kids spent their summers the same way that we did, when we weren't in the fields.
The feeling of freedom and exploration lingers with me still and I find myself alienated when amongst throngs of people. It bothers me not, as I feel no need to belong to clubs or groups as such, aside from Hive, that is lol. I do love it here, though I tend to consume rather than create.
We were not poor, but we lived a frugal life, which sometimes came in as a dislike of my childhood, but I knew the why of it. It was all to make things better in the future.
For my 8th grade graduation, my mother made the dress shown below, as she did for most of our clothes. We didn't have many store bought clothes and that sometimes got us a bit of ribbing.
The area where I'm standing was the garage in our tiny house. My father turned that house into a beautiful home on his meager carpenter's salary. That's why we scrimped and saved all through the early years. Since we no longer had a garage, he built one. He built it big enough to house....an airplane. More on that in another post. Take note of a three pound coffee can sitting on the floor by the tail of the plane, also included in the 'other post' lol
My younger brother appears in two of these photographs, and was always peeking into other people's pics lol
All in all, a very good childhood
I appreciate your visit <3
Greetings @tamaralovelace ,
What a lovely beautifully written story of your childhood...thank you so much.
A tenderness I cannot explain comes to mind when reading your stories of the past...perhaps for an innocence of childhood visible in these writings that seems no longer attainable....such a treasure.
Thank you again. ^__^
Kindest Regards,
Bleujay
Hello @bleujay!
Thanks so much for your visit. Does it not seem that things were much less complicated during your youth? You've said it well, the innocence of childhood.
It would be wonderful to recapture that feeling of pure joy with no worries whatsoever. I value your kind words...enjoy your day <3
"Stone age!* 😆
Ok,so you were a legit hottie in that graduation dress...dem legs. 😉
Seriously though, I'm being serious.
Ok, so it sounds like your upbringing wasn't too dissimilar to mine. My parents did what they could with what they had which wasn't all that much and rarely did we get anything new and when we did it was treasured and well looked after as another would almost certainly not come.
Anyway, I look back on those years as good ones despite some of the bad things that happened and am better now because of my upbringing, the lessons learned and all.
I need to know more about that plane so get on it nutbag!
Hey, thanks for being involved, as always, I appreciate it.
Thank you for the compliment!
Kinda touches on a previous post of yours from a short while back and I thought then that with even a small change, would we be still be the people we are today?''
Therefore I, too am better off for having had all of my life experiences, both bad and good. And for that I am grateful.
Yeehaw! I finally made the rank of nutbag lmao. I know @meesterboom had inquired about it, (the plane, not the nutbag rank) and I've been looking for the pics. They are mostly of this low quality but I do have a couple better shots. Still can't find the big album, though.
I'm thankful for the opportunity to participate, so...I appreciate your appreciation lol
You've always been a nutbayto me, I just have to make sure if it and make sure whomever I call that isn't going to take offense.
I'll be looking out for the plane post for sure and, I appreciate your appreciation of my appreciation.
The aeroplane... The aeroplane!!! The tease is on!!
Carpentry is the skill of kings. I wish I had more skill in the ways of the wood. Funk me, I am not being euphemistic of course!
No euphemism detected lol
😃😃 I do so many bloody metaphors and similes I get paranoid!
