And we are off.
For a mini-trip overseas. Europe is kind of cool like that, because it is possible to get away to another country (literally overseas this time) to spend a night or two abroad. And this will be our first trip abroad without Smallsteps, as we managed to find a friend willing to stay with her for a couple nights.
Not that she is difficult to look after.
(I reckon she could pretty much survive by herself at this stage)
As we didn't know if it would be possible, we left it pretty late to book anything for our anniversary and what we were planning was one of these romantic little box cottages in the forest somewhere with a lake view. But, for the exorbitant price of that and the fact that there is nothing around them but forest, we opted for a hotel in Tallinn instead. We will get in a bit late due to the school and boat schedules, but early enough to maybe go for a sim in the pool and grab a bite to eat.
And then tomorrow we will just bumble around the city until we head for dinner at a nice restaurant that should do a decent steak (as per madam's wishes). It doesn't really matter what we do, it is just nice to be away for a little while together. And as such, I am probably more unavailable than usual. However, I did bring my camera so I might do a photo post tomorrow, if there is anything worthy.

Tallin (In Estonia for those who don't know), is a pretty cool city in my opinion and has developed a lot in the last thirty years since the break up of the U.S.S.R. It is the first place I visited after coming to Finland, which is on a work trip two weeks after arriving in Europe. I often joke that I almost got married in Tallinn, after being served in a store by a beautiful girl whom I barely talked to.
Don't tell my wife.
(Just in case we run into her.)
But now, we are on the fast boat from Helsinki to cross the Gulf of Finland. It takes about two hours, but there are other options where you can do overnight cruises across and have a room. I don't see the point of that for such a short trip, though many party on the boat I guess.
Now though, I am wondering where my drink is, as my wife went off to grab a cider and hasn't come back. Perhaps she met someone more interesting and I will holiday alone. That would be a travel story to tell for sure!

We never had a honeymoon as my wife was still working her vice president job at the time and had to be on the plane all the time including right after the wedding.
We travel with our daughter 99% of the time except for one or two short gateways when her grandmother sat with her.
Yeah it is hard at times to get away. For us, people were "scared" to look after her when young because of the food allergies. They weren't deadly or anything, but people didn't want to screw up. Now, grand parents are too old, family are too busy.
Will you get away together at some point?
I agree with you on the part that European countries are so much connected which make it easier for tourist to visit as many countries as possible with the visa of one country in Europe would afford you that. It is nice see that you are traveling to celebrate your wedding anniversary. It is a thing of joy that one should strive to do without breaking bank.
I'm sure you are going to have a lot of fun and since you didn't go with yoir daughter nothing will stop the fun. Do enjoy your trips and i bid your safe trip back home.
I am Australian and don't even need a passport. I just got on and off :D I don't understand! :D
Happy Anniversary! It's really nice to have a getaway for just the two of you.
Not gonna happen 😂
Thank you! It is really nice so far just to hang out together.
In my opinion, I don't know how she could meet someone more interesting... ;D
Precisely what I was thinking lol
She doesn't seem to be the sort that would leave you like that. I hope you have a wonderful time. It's always fun to explore new cities together or visit familiar favorites.
Nah, she wouldn't do that. Not on a trip anyway, as I have the house keys with me :D
Don't forget to bring some cheaper alcohol back!
I should get myself one of those old woman trolley things to carry the beer :D
lol we sure used those back in the day xD
I hope that you will enjoy your trip and time with your wife.
This reminds me a song Strangers in the night.
I think that I only traveled by fast boat once or twice- when I was a kid.
I would have if she had asked.
Looks like a lovely getaway!
Tallinn is such a charming city—perfect mix of history and modern vibes. Hope you both enjoy some relaxing pool time and a great steak dinner.
Safe travels and can’t wait to see the photos.
The people here are quite different than Finns. I think it is because they remember what it is like to not have much.
Seem some exciting and memorable time ahead...the decades old relation / mareiage should be a mega celebration and I am sure you have a good time together at tallin....have a wonderful weekend.🎉🥰🍻

It is nice to be away and I hope that Smallsteps will enjoy herself and be proud that she was able to be "alone" herself too.
That is the best thing, these days will give her some new exposure of life ..
Taking time alone and relaxing with your partner is very healthy and necessary to maintain that connection. My partner is working hard even twice as hard for reasons I mentioned in a previous comment.
He told me to go to the beach, and I feel doubly guilty about that, first because my head is submerged in worries and I would choose to prioritize other things than going on a day trip, but on the other hand I feel selfish because my partner deserves a break, considering we couldn't celebrate our anniversary and his birthday this year.
What should I do? I don't know. If you find your drink, please bring the bottle to share.
Pd: By the way, enjoy your trip, flirting is not bad, some old sayings out there say that eyes were made to see, imagination to dream and no one needs to know that. Well my partner and I always have the confidence to say " hey look 6 hours from the clock... Tremendous 🍑 right" 🤣
Sometimes, life just goes that way. Just remember for next time when it is his turn to get a little space and wind down.
I am always up to share a drink with interesting people!
Some couple are far too immature and insecure to allow flirting. I see flirting in various ways though. There is the flirt to get a little attention and just have the nice feeling, and there is the flirt to suggest more than that.
It is good that you found someone to take care of Smallsteps :) Giving you both a chance to enjoy some much-needed time off. Have a blast checking out Tallinn and treating yourselves to that steak dinner, here's to many more anniversaries ahead!
And she is doing really well. We have exchanged some messages, but we are trying to give her space too :)
"All great stories begin in one of two ways: Either a person embarks on a journey, or a stranger arrives in town."
It could be a perfect trip. If you're traveling alone, your partner might be happy to try it.
By the way, this is the first time I've heard of cider. Is it as good as grape wine?
Or the third way is with a little too much alcohol.
Tallin, love it as I love the country, innovative place, fast moving, nice folks - greetings to my 3rd favorite country.
What is one and two?
Huh! Look like we are all traveling this week. I am waiting for my flight out of Houston.
Hopefully you will have a grand time on your trip as well. Likely, you will pay a bit more for things than us there! :D
Yeah a bit :)
The master of understatement!
You really had a good outing to spend the beautiful anniversary which will be a memorable one as well.
That sounds like a pretty romantic celebration. Long live love. Happy anniversary =)
Had to find this post after reading your latest post to find out where you went lol. Travelling is fun and you are lucky living in Europe with so many countries within a short distance of each other. Have fun and relax which is the key here because you both have deserved this break.
I know Talinn exists because I found out Estonia was a real place from a dream and based on that dream I set some roleplaying lore in Estonia and that city sounded cool/right XD so I find it kind of funny but completely unsurprising to find it cropping up in real life again XD
Did your wife meet someone interesting or was the queue just excessive? I'm assuming you're not holidaying alone seeing as you both seem to have made it to the hotel in the appropriate number of pieces XD
It's got it all, charming, historic and just the right size for a quick getaway. Hope you both had a relaxing and memorable anniversary trip though
Tallinn is very cool imo. The people here are far trendier than in Finland :)
