A modern life dilemma.
I am so much aware of all this and try to find this same balance between the on and offline lives.
ditched my "smart" phone in favor for a stupid one, like myself, proudly and always try to limit information I share online.
as long as there is negative intent to use our information, we will be vulnerable in one way or another.

I really admire that you ditched the smartphone. I have become too reliant on mine if I am totally honest. But, I am much more analog than most of my peers and am working to put my emotions/deep thoughts into my notebooks rather than express them online via chats with friends and family. I guess the biggest challenge for me is living in another continent than my family/most of my friends.
I grew tired of being online non stop and the constant beeping in the background.
so I bought a good old Nokia and I only use the smart phone as a camera and when I feel like connecting, and that only when I am home.
when I am out and about, most time my phone sits in a zipper in my backpack and I only look at it at the end of the day.
they are good as tools and should be treated like tools. used when needed.
