Lego Ideas and November PUD Guessing Contest winners announcement

I'm not a fan of Lego and was quite surprised when I dropped by my local Lego store a while ago and saw how different things are nowadays. The last time I checked, in 'my days', Lego blocks were mainly used to build structures, but now the objects are a lot more 3D and real life.

Is this a groovy Winnie the Pooh or an actual cartoon character? I don't watch any cartoons so I wouldn't know.....

Here are some of the real life objects I mentioned early on. They're called Lego Ideas, a program where users ie Lego fanatics design and build their own Lego objects. These are submitted to Lego and people vote for their favourite projects. Successful ones are produced and sold commercially as Lego sets.

Two of my favourite in the store is this piano and the typewriter. Unfortunately, they were kept in a see through box for protection and I couldn't get a better picture of them. However, you can get an idea of the details. For example, the piano is made of 2798 Lego parts with moving parts including the keyboard, and a stool and adjusts in height.

The typewriter, for those of you younger ones who have never seen a real one before, was just released in summer this year. Literally, a month before I visited this store. When you press any of the keys, the corresponding type bar rises in the middle and the carriage moves as well, just like a real typewriter. You can even insert a piece of paper in the roller. I think it's a real beauty and just genius on how someone can build a moving typewriter from Lego bricks. No wonder this costs £180, nearly US$250!!! Expensive, but I think it's worth it.

The other ones I really liked are these Lego flowers, they're so intricate. I don't know if they're also part of the Lego Ideas creation.

And now to reveal the answer to the November PUD Guessing Contest. The challenge was to guess how many tomatoes I harvest this year. The answer is 1️⃣4️⃣
20211027_150418.jpg

There was quite a wide range of answers this month, from 10 which is what you could see in the photo I shared (@trangbaby you didn't allow for any additional ones!!!) to 17 (@phortun and @cetb2008 I wish I had such a bumper harvest!!). Six people made the correct guesses. Congratulations to @attentionneeded, @sreypov, @harnah12, @ehizgabriel, @maxwellnewlife7 and particularly @coquicoin who also powered up. Each winner will get HBD 0.83 while @coquicoin will get a HBD1.66 as you powered up.

Once again, thanks to everyone who popped by to my monthly PUD Guessing Contest, I hope to see you again in the December one, the last one for 2021. I may even do a bumper Christmas special one with a bigger prize pool, don't forget to come and check it out on 1st December!!!

About the Lego store:
I always wanted one as a kid, but I had no money and they were expensive, so I never had any real Lego (although my parents gave me cheap copies).

Now I am grown up and although I have the money to buy now I also have the responsibility. I do crave and want to buy, but I realized they are still expensive, maybe even more (due to inflation and dollar price increase versus my currency).

Still, this weekend I also went to a local Lego store and had fun looking at the many cool stuff they have, just did not have the guts (nor the wallet) to buy anything. Was fun though, I felt like a kid in a candy, or a Lego, store hahaha

I agree, Lego are really expensive but I know compared to the knock offs, they are much better quality, and hold much better. I saw my nephews playing with the knock offs recently, when he showed me what he made, I picked it up and a chunk fell off!!!

I had a lot of joy browsing in the store on this occasion, and like you, I found that quite satisfying as I wasn't going to buy anything anyway.

I have watched people reviewing Legos. The joy, for adults, seems to be the process of building those large stuff, like a guy was super happy building a Millenium Falcon (Star Wars) on youtube for hours.

That just made me realize I am grown up and don't really have the time, but I can dream to have it someday (both time and money).

I'm not a fan of Lego

how can you not be a fan of Lego? haha. I had so many of these kits when I was a kid. They would always get mixed together later on and then it was much more difficult to build the original car or castle later. That's just what kids do. I have an adult friend who spends time building custom Lego things like Star Wars ships that are not available on the market. He built a "Star Destroyer" just by ordering specific parts on various websites. It was HUGE and really impressive how much time he put into it. I'll see if i can find a picture of that because I think it took him something like 6 months to build it.

Is he one of those Lego fanatics? Maybe he should have a go at submitting his works to that Lego Idea thing, you never know, we may see his creation turned into a box set in the shops. That would be interesting to see his Star Destroyer. If you manage to find a photo and feel like doing a post, feel free to post in this Toys on Hive community!!

Only 14? I am sorry :( I was really pushing for more wih my guess...

I hope I had more spuds as well, sadly it was a rather dismal harvest this year

Yes, my friend. Legos have changed a lot. I remember when they were just houses and cars:). Today, there is something for everyone.

It's so fascinating how they can build these objects isn't it

I think it would be a great company to work for.

I'm glad to be among the winners!

About the November PUD Guessing Contest: Again, I know that I failed 🙄 My bad !! Always failed to guess the right thing 😆 I will definitely keep participating in this challenge until I guess correctly at least once

I was just teasing you @trangbaby 😉, it's all about participation and engaging, that's the most important thing, but yes, please do pop by again for the next one

Sure @livinguktaiwan 😍
Oh yeah, I just crossed my friends' profiles and saw that they had the badge from "hivefromhive". I entered the contest but I didn't receive the badge yet :))
Could you please check it for me? Much appreciated it
(Although I am not sure what the badges are for, I am happy to collect more badges for myself 😆)

I started following everyone who made a Hi From Hive posts the other week, and by the time I got to Asia the account ran out of RC 😅. Then I forgot to go back in to finish off the job after the RC recovered.

Not a fan of Lego, whaaat! Lol.
There are so many cool things being made these days and the partnerships are pretty interesting as well. There are builds for movies like Harry Potter and Star wars and others and even TV sitcoms like Seinfeld lol. It's so damn expensive though. That's the only downfall. We got a Lego catalog in the mail last week and I saw that typewriter in there and thought it was awesome. The flowers are cool too. I've never seen those.

Also I think you miscounted your potatoes. I counted 15. Lol

Ohhhhh! A challenge!!

Thank goodness for my super duper new mobile phone that does hi res images. The said additional spud is actually part of the larger potato.

Challenge unsuccessful!! 👨‍⚖️ Come back again next month!!!

Lmao 🤣
Okay fair enough 😆
I should never have doubted you. I'll go put myself in a corner for a few minutes

Ha ha, I had to check a few times myself as it wasn't clear from the image I shared, your eagle eyes could have been right!! Luckily I been taking lot's random photos and had another angle. But appreciate you raising it, didn't want people to lose out!!!

I also like the piano 👍🏻

Yes, it really is a piece of art

only 4 toms harvested? lol,

Yeah, a really pathetic year. The plants just died within a few weeks along with the green tomatoes ,😍

RIP green toms

They were eventuality laid to rest in my tummy curry, so all good in the end

😂 👍 a fitting end !!

Hi dear! I am really glad I guess is correct 😀! Thank you very much 🙏🏻❤️. Have a great day.

Looks like I have! Well, I'm not impressed, have to throw away my farmer's diploma. Missed by one. Maybe next time 😁

Yes, would expect more from you Erikah!!!! You need to get your act together next month!!!!

😬 you tricked us, that's why I wasn't able to give you the right answer! Just like with the train. ☹️

Not cool, I'm not impressed!

Yeah - I too, considered Legos a structural build kind of toy. Mostly kid stuff. Few years ago during my travel in Copenhagen I realized how wrong I was. They had an Asterix statue made of legos! It was almost man-sized and then I saw a Nelson Mandela lego statue (forgot where I saw it in SA). Amazing.
My passion is photography now so next time I see something interesting on legos, I will share. At the moment I am just sharing interesting Bird/ wildlife images.

Sometimes it's nice to diversify your posts on Hive so your followers get more variety, Thanks for dropping by

Hmm. Makes sense. I am passionate about photography but am not too confident about other areas. So, I try to bring variety by sharing my thoughts on various subjects triggered by my picture. I will certainly try to bring in more variety. Thanks for the guidance.
