With the riots and protesters causing mayhem currently things are being thrown around when possibly they shouldn't. History is important and knowing the truth is even more important. Tearing down statues and damaging history will not change the past. In my view it is more important to have those that did wrong on view so mistakes are never repeated.
Lewis Hamilton has come out publicly saying all racist symbols of the past need to be removed. Amazing to think his sponsor is Hugo Boss and his employer is Mercedes then isn't it. Mercedes and Hugo Boss used slave labour during the War.

I think if we look into most companies that have been around for a long time we will find some skeletons in the closet. Why should something that happened a very long time ago be raised now in a witch hunt. I think it is important to know ones history, but by no means does it mean you have to hold those controlling it accountable for their ancestors actions.
Hugo Boss started supplying brown shirts to the German Nazi Party before landing lucrative contracts supplying the German Army. Like any factory in those days he had forced labour made up of Polish and French women who were held captive.
Hugo Ferdinand Boss was a staunch Nazi Party supporter who was tried and fined for his involvement after the war. As far as I am concerned that is the case closed and people move on.The company commissioned a book to let everyone know about the facts and to further appologise for it's actions during the war.
Another company that hasn't been mentioned as yet is IKEA who was founded by a 17 year old in 1943 the same year the secret police opened a file on him. He was a member of the Sweden Socialist Union and a Nazi supporter. there are reported other links for him but in my view this makes no difference as we are talking nearly 80 years ago.
Mercedes,BMW,Porsche and Audi all supplied motorised equipment as well so does that make them a bad company? Once people start going down this sort of narrative it becomes dangerous and stupid. I am sure most of us have some dodgy ancestry if we go far back enough, but it doesn't mean we are bad people ourselves.
I have a feeling there are a lot of companies that were established by quite unsavory people. I think the focus should really be on what they are doing today and how they are affecting change in the world.
