Midweek running - 10km (testing a double session)

What do I mean by testing....?

I'm starting a new job hopefully in the next 2 weeks (not got my start date official confirmed yet, but it 'should' be the 1st of May

I mean, it better be, I'm ready for a move!

I'm not moving far though, I'm still gonna work in the same organization, and in fact the same finance department, I'm just sidestepping into a different team... basically means I'm still working with money, but working with it in a different way, and I'm really looking forward to learning some new skills and knowledge, as it will help with career progression for the future.

And the change in role will also 'hopefully' benefit my life outside work. Currently as part of my role I work from home couple of days each week. Because of this I have to carry my stuff to work and back each day, so that its ready whenever and wherever I need it. The new role is completely office based, which means that all my work 'stuff' will stay at work.

This means I can head to work without carrying all my 'stuff' and that means I can now change how I get to work. Instead of relying on the bus all week... I was thinking about running home a couple of days after work... the shortest route is 6.5km, so thats easy enough.

But then I thought about running to work as well... would that be possible?

I checked with a couple of guys who sometimes cycle to work, and I asked if they have access to a shower where they get changed? Afterall I don't want to be 'that guy' who sits in an office sweating due to the cycle/run commute

They informed me there was indeed a room to get changed and showered in, over the other side of the building. I went and checked it out and it is literally a small sqaure room with some lockers along oneside, and a single shower room in the corner... so, running to work and back some days? I can make that work!

On with testing....

I move job roles in 2 weeks time, but as I'm home today, i realised it gave me a chance to try this routine out at home. Eg, I can go for a little run first thing in the morning and time my self for a shower, and then I can go for another run after work, and then I can see how that feels.

I made an effort to go to bed early last night, so I can be up early.

that didn't work though, I had an awful nights sleep

So I didn't run first thing this morning. Instead I took an extended lunchbreak and went for a 5km run at 12:05pm. The timing wasn't when I wanted, but at least I can practice the '2 runs in 1 day' thing!

I did a quick loop around the village for 5.5km,It wasn't as long as the 6.5km I will need to do, but it was close enough!

After I returned home, I had just enough time to make a sandwich, before cracking back on with work.

At 4pm I then finished my shift and logged back out again. Now it was time for my 2nd run of the day. Its only 4 hours since my previous run, but I still felt relatively loose and mobile

For the 2nd run I just did a quick 30 minutes up the bypass and back, and my legs felt ok enough that I did some exercises afterwards, along with some stretches.

gotta keep an eye on that injury rehabilitation stuff as well!

So, writing this post at 9pm, I still fell ok, and not too sore. The distances aren't that long (or they aren't to me at any rate), but the issue is the breaking up a longer 10km run into 2 5km runs, at the start AND the end of the day.

As far as my rest goes, its been pretty good, although I am going to try again tomorrow to actially run before work and afterwards so I can fully replicate when I do it to run to work. I also need to remeber that I will need to carry stuff with me to work still (such as shirt, trousers, showergel, lunchbox etc). I'm hoping I can find somewhere to leave my shoes, as I don't want to lug them back and forth each day if I can help it!

If I can make this work, then not only will it help with running more consistently, but will also help manage my time better. Running home from work will be so much quicker than waiting around to catch 2 buses, and that means more time in the evening to rest, do chores, do my course, etc etc!

So I'm gonna run my test again tomorrow, this time with getting my timings right, AND carrying my back pack for the duration of the run... I'll let you know how that goes!

When the weather is beautiful like this and there are clouds in the sky, it makes you want to walk more and the walk is also complete. If it is like this in May, then it cannot be complete.
