The Wheels Wander on the “right” route.

Tried to get back into it~

Cycling has been my way of decluttering my mind when I needed it. I remember when I received my first salary a few years ago, the first thing I thought about wasn’t to buy a new phone or anything similar. But all I wanted was to buy my first bike as an adult haha. It is different than back when we were kids, our parents might be the one who bought it without us even asking. As an adult, buying some sports equipment with my own money is a sign that I want to be consistent doing it.

However, one of my biggest reasons for not cycling everyday is the routes. I'm living in one of the biggest cities in my country, yet we don’t really have enough cycling routes in my opinion. Even on some bigger main roads, there are just lines drawn with a sign saying it's for cyclists. So people will cross the line because there’s no physical barrier, it’s just a picture as a sign.

That's why I think finding the “right” route is important. Not in the sense of a right or wrong route, but more like finding a route that makes me comfortable to wander around. This road is one of them. I need to cycle perhaps about 4 km from my house to reach this area, and first, I have to pass through a bigger road full of vehicles (it is what it is). But at least, when I reach this road, I can cycle in a much wider area.

This is a street with many shophouses on either side. Many small businesses and shops don't open until maybe around 8 AM. So, before that, many people come to this area to jog or cycle around. It's nice because there's a lot of greenery and shady trees on either side, even in the middle of the street.

I found mostly elderly people on this road, and I have no idea if they live pretty close or they purposely came there for jogging–because some of them even rode motorcycles. Maybe they were just doing a quick jog after dropping their kids to school.

Finding the “right” route, once again, is really important to me as I want to maintain the habit of cycling. I never track anything when I exercise, whether it’s running or cycling, because I never have a goal in mind rather than being more consistent doing it in my day to day life. So, ya, that’s it for today! Thanks for reading as always :)

Cycling is perfect for clearing your mind indeed!

Where do you live? Cities aren't my favorite spot to go cycling either. Although here in the Netherlands in most cities the cycling infrastructure is quite good.

The pictures you shared show a nice and rather calm road; a nice place to go for a bicycle ride.

Thanks for sharing!

I live in Surabaya, Indonesia. Wait, that's interesting! may I ask why don't you enjoy cycling in the city even the cycling infrastructure is quite good? I always wonder how amazing it is to cycling in the country like Netherlands hehe

Cool!

That is because the cycling infrastructure outside the cities is very good as well. We have a lot of dedicated cycling routes in between cities. Roads where cars are not allowed. Roads where you can cycle in a natural environment without having to worry about cars.

I sometimes make a blog about it. Here is one with a video, so you can get an idea of what it's like.

Cars and cyclists don't mix well with only a line separating them indeed, seeing this I'm glad we have plenty of roads where I don't see anyone 🙂

Turning on Strava could help you seeing how consistent you are in the long term, I find even more joy in the numbers and stats after a nice ride.

Safe miles and have fun!

IKR? I wish we have more dedicated road for cyclists here. Anyway, maybe it's just me, but I'm a bit afraid that seeing the numbers will make me not be able to enjoy cycling itself haha but maybe I have to give it a try. Thanks for stopping by :)

Yeah that's definitely a risk!
