Hello architecture and design lovers, last Saturday June 25th we were invited to enjoy the Architecture and Tourism Tour for the celebration of the 93rd anniversary of the Urbanizaciones los Palos Grandes by Silvia Gómez, Director of Tourism and Community of the Chacao Mayor's Office with whom we have been planning works since Vida Verde.
The urbanization of Los Palos Grandes is also known as the Garden City, this grew rapidly as part of the capital district of Caracas in the 50's to 60's, in the oil era and much of its architecture is worth admiring, so we have created an ArquiTour as part of its attractions.
Los Palos Grandes was an area of haciendas that grew very fast and in the middle of it there are huge trees that respected many of them are part of its attraction and a great reference of what was there before, some of them wrap the buildings and over pass their height.
As a good lover of architecture, I went on this great tour guided by Architect Orlando Marin who spreads to all with his passion and knowledge of the architecture of the municipality of Chacao.
We visited many buildings full of history and I will publish several of them in these photos, but the works of two architects called my attention in particular of all, Jan Gorecki and Francisco Pimente.
The architect Jan Gorecki is originally from St. Peterbusgo and like many other architects and builders in the world came to Venezuela in search of being part of the growing oil nation, he partnered with the engineer Sarmuel Zambriel created a company and together they built more than 600 buildings and more than 120 of them are in the municipality of Chacao.
While the Venezuelan architect Francisco Pimente, who already knew him for his emblematic works such as La Previsora, Torre Britanica, Edificio Universal, Colegio La Loyola de Puerto Ordaz, but had never known residential buildings designed by this great architect who has filled Venezuela with wonderful works.
As part of the ArquiTour we enjoyed a tasting of a rich wine of national production of the entrepreneurs of DiVino, a sweet wine full of tropical flavors such as mango, blackberry, personally I love the sweet blackberry wine and it was really divine.
Chacao is creating an exhibition hall in its streets, where you can see several murals that fill with color and art different points of the municipality making it more colorful and capturing part of them.
I could not miss the exhibition of antique cars in the celebration of the 93 years of Los Palos Grandes, which of course I also enjoyed.
One of the most emblematic references for the neighbors of the Plaza de Los Palos Grandes, is its square that was remodeled several years ago and is really good place for the meeting and there ended the celebration of its anniversary with the presentation of several musical groups. The Plaza de los Palos Grandes deserves a publication so soon I will show you more of it.
Here a muran of an old photo of what was formerly the big sticks where we took the photo of the tour.
I think my smile expresses how much I enjoyed learning more about the architecture of Los Palos Grandes, the old Garden City.

Undoubtedly, Los Palos Grandes is a great urbanism that grew thanks to the financial development of the municipality of Chacao and, of course, to the bonanza of the oil boom in Venezuela.
Hello @wilfredocav, the oil bonanza gave birth to the growth of the Chacao municipality, los palos grandes grew as part of a project called oil center of Caracas, there are large buildings of former 3 oil headquarters as they were, Texas, Atlantic and Mene Grande,in the surroundings of where today is Centro Plaza which gave great growth to the area of los palos grandes in Chacao.😊
It is very positive that this type of events are held where people can participate in something as important in the country as architecture. I see in your photos that many people attended the event. Excellent!
Hello! Yes, it is a great experience that I will surely repeat, as there are always new routes in the ArquiTour. Knowing the history of the architecture of your city is very important, the tours have been a success, they have a cost of 10$ and are definitely worth it.
I have always loved the area of Los Palos Grandes, starting with the name and the proximity to the Avila and continuing with its magnificent residential buildings, I have passed through these streets so many times that I am proud to see them here!
Hello @caracasprin thank you !!without a doubt, all areas of the city of Caracas near the Avila are beautiful, I had the privilege of living in one of them most of my life and see the charm of this mountain beautifies the whole environment and Los Palos Grandes is a wonderful place to enjoy the majestic mountain of Avila along with its embrematica architecture !!😉😊
Hermoso!
YES, this mural is really amazing!!! Very realistic, full of details, it is a replica of a black and white photo of one of the old haciendas of Los Palos Grandes, the only thing different are the macaws.
