RE: Visiting the Napoleonic Museum of Havana

I hope this will be possible in the near future. I've always been interested in Cuban history, not just because of Che and Castro, but also because of the history of all the Cuban people and their resilience in coping with life. Are u from Cuba?

Sort:

Yes, I am Cuban and I live in Cuba.

I just love the pieces of old history you guys still have. I can't make any assumptions about life in Cuba because of the many different stories about how life is there, but my parents were there and they said the peacefulness and happiness in people are just amazing. And of course, the nature and culture are incredible too. Everything is so colorful. So, how is life in Cuba? :)

What year were your parents here? Because maybe life here has changed a bit since they were here.

If you come here you will surely love Old Havana, it is like walking through colonial times, as if you were in the 18th or 19th century.

The people are still kind and friendly, Cubans are very social and talkative, although some things have changed due to the great economic crisis we are going through and the shortages of all kinds. People tend to be a bit more withdrawn and more concerned about how to solve their problems. A few years ago life was a little better. There have been many migrations and separations and people are a bit affected. Right now life is a bit difficult.

But in spite of everything we are still a very supportive and courageous people. Cubans leave a mark on those who know us. I'm glad you like Cuba.

And what country are you from?

I’m from Slovenia, but I live in Austria in the moment. They were visiting in 2015, and I asked them to bring me sand from the beach :) I still have it ☺️ It's so nice to talk with someone about my favorite place. Every time we had a school project about tourism or history, I always chose Cuba 😂 Even my final exam for the travel project was about Cuba 😂 I was studying tourism in school, so they already knew what I would write about 😂 I just want to experience it, and you guys are still independent with your own culture. What types of celebrations or festivals are common in Cuba? I truly hope that in the next 3 years, I'll have enough money to buy plane tickets... they're expensive for two people 🤔 Okay, I have to ask, has life and the economic crisis started getting tougher after 2016?

😂😂😂 You like Cuba, I'm glad.
You live in Austria what a beautiful place, isn't it? I wish I could go visit where you live, I think maybe if I save in 20 years I could get the money for the ticket and the trip,😂 .

After 2016, when Fidel passed away, things didn't really change much. It was a year before the COVID and during and after it things have worsened, because of the economic changes that have been made, in my opinion, they were not the best, nor at the best time, in addition to other problems that our economy has always had. Now there is growing inflation, and there is no immediate solution.

But don't let that discourage you from coming jeje.

Here the carnivals are celebrated in Havana, and each province has its own festivals, Parrandas, Romerías.... Although I'm telling you, with all these problems now, everything has become a bit depressing.

Nothing would bother me from visiting Cuba, except for the lack of money 😂 Yes, the pandemic was tough on everyone, there were also challenges with healthcare workers. We were exhausted, working 12-hour shifts, five days a week, and many people couldn't handle it anymore, so they quit. Consequently, our department is facing a severe shortage of staff 😔 Yes, Austria is stunning, and it offers more opportunities for us to establish our lives there. Learning German was challenging, but I eventually mastered it 😂

The pandemic was hard for everyone in general, health workers had to face very difficult situations.
I hope that when you can come our country is in better conditions.
