Epic Week of Weather Part 4

Wednesday Continued.....

Foggy Woodland

Woodland and fog are the perfect combination. The fog simplifies a busy woodland scene by obscuring the elements that are further away. It acts as a big soft box, diffusing the light and adding atmosphere. When the light is like this, I will always end up among the trees....

I've shot this composition before, but never with these autumn colours...

The light was ridiculously good. I felt like I'd stepped into Rivendell.

A little further into the woodland I took this shot:

FrostyFog-6c.jpg

ISO 100, 50mm, f/11 1/3 sec.

I think this is the best light I've ever seen this patch of woodland in. It was absolutely gorgeous. Just the right amount of soft sunlight filtering through the mist...

I'm wearing my summer wellies and my feet now feel like blocks of ice and are starting to hurt as it's still freezing cold, but I decide to press on because the light is so nice...

I wandered into an area of woodland that I don't often photograph, mainly because there is a lot of man made 'stuff', and chopped up trees that make things feel less wild. However the light was perfect...

FrostyFog-8a.jpg

ISO 100, 82mm, f/11, 1/10 sec.

Usually I would find the fencing at the base of the trees visually annoying, but in this light, everything looked good.

Thanks to the cold, my feet were in agony. Every step was very painful. The light was starting to loose it's magic a little, so I decided to call it a day and hobbled back to my bike. Fortunately it's down hill all the way home, so I didn't even need to pedal much.

I've been investigating Muck Boots - they sound nice and warm for winter. I have doubts if they would be waterproof enough for a paddle in the brook though, as I can end up going in quite deep. One thing is for sure - the summer wellies need replacing for the winter months.

I'll round of with a phone clip that I grabbed:

Stunning shots!! Looking at them, I feel like I'm in a classic Tim Burton movie.

I love Tim Burton films, so I take that as an enormous compliment! Thank you. :)

Yay! You're welcome. Well-deserved.

Hi @cathgothard

These are truly magical, these are the woods that you read about in fantasy novels. Really beautiful that you have been able to capture the essence and stillness in these, I absolutely love these pics.

So sorry about your ice cold, sore feet. I hope you were able to revive them once home. Sometimes epic creations require sacrifice and perseverance.

Thanks for sharing these :)

Have a beautiful day

Thank you for leaving such a lovely comment! These woods are beautiful, I'm very lucky that they are quite close by. They look incredible if it's misty or foggy, and the conditions on this morning were absolutely perfect.

The feet warmed up once I got back home. They were worth getting cold for... :)

Have a lovely day too!

Hi @cathgothard

You are most welcome, I found your photos ethereal and had to let you know. I don't recall ever being in a forest or wooded area with that king of beautiful blanket mist.

So happy your feet are ok, treat them well and they'll take you far 🌷

My camera is itching to get out and find something to photograph, I can hear it calling me lol.

I'm very happy that you liked my woodland photos. I scour the weather forecast obsessively looking for signs that some mist or fog will form... ;o)

Sounds like you have a bit of a camera bug too!

Have a good Thursday!

These are spectacular photos. They reveal fantasy and some mystery, they look like pictures of an enchanted road or a new road to Terabithia. Greetings! @cathgothard

Thank you for the lovely comment! Am very happy that you like my photographs. It was an incredible morning to be out with my camera, the light really was excellent. I'll be sure to check out the Celf community. :)

Nice shots, any idea what the fence around the trees is for?

Thank you!

There are both red and fallow deer in the park, so perhaps the fencing could be there to stop the deer damaging the trees? Although the fencing isn't super high. I might have to try and find out now that you've asked, as I really am not sure.... :)
