CCC's Street Art Contest #247 Phillip Adams, Montreal

in StreetArt7 months ago

For the CCC's Street Art Contest #247 organized by @digi-me, here are a few murals done by American artist Phillip Adams. A few years ago, to embellish the Habitations Jeanne-Mance in Montreal, the artist created a series of 4 murals on the elements: air, fire, water and earth.

I really like the lower part, which represents the neighborhood before the construction of this housing complex. The orange cones, a contemparary symbol of the city still under construction, take us back in time with a touch of humor.

Phillip Adams is an artist from Atlanta (US) with an MFA from Philadelphia University. He is also a painter (see his paintings on his website phillipadams.com, which is well worth a visit). He has created several murals, including 8 in Montreal for Habitations Jeanne Mance, one series on the seasons and the other on the elements. I'm only showing 3 of them at the moment. I'll have to photograph the rest.

The mural Au fil de l'eau (As the water flows) was created in 2013, with the St. Lawrence River as its main subject, a reminder that Montreal is located on an island. Its buildings can be seen in the background. The little origami boat “raises young people's awareness of the issues surrounding the preservation and responsible use of water” (source: artpublicmontreal.ca).

Terre d’accueil, 2015

Terre d’accueil (Land of welcome) was painted in 2015 and depicts the Parc du Mont-Royal with downtown buildings between the branches. This park is the city's green lung, and residents love it, hence the heart hanging from the trunk in the center. Superb mural...

Superbe murale...

What do you think of this set? Would you have chosen the same mural for the contest? I'm hoping to go out soon and take some photos in the neighborhood to finish off this series with the element Fire and show you the other 4 murals on the Seasons.

I really like that first mural showing the old neighborhood. I bet few of the residents have any idea what was there before...

That's for sure... even I didn't know the neighborhood looked like this until I learned about the mural.
Thanks for your support... Have a great Tuesday
