Looking for George and my all time favourite Duomo in Milan, Italy

This is a throwback holiday to Milan in Italy from quite a long time ago. Those were the days when I was still into shopping and fashion, I mean that's one of the big reasons for going to Milan, right? I remember I got off the plane in the morning, and after lunch jumped onto a shuttle bus to cross the border to a factory outlet in Switzerland for a spot of retail therapy. No time to waste on my long weekend here!!

Lake Como

The next day, I caught the train to Lake Como. It's by the Italian Swiss border, not far away from the factory outlet the previous day.

Lake Como is Italy's third largest lake, but probably the most famous of them all. It's located at the bottom of the Swiss Alps, and has some amazing scenery, hence attracting a lot of tourists, as well as the rich and famous. I was hoping maybe I'd bump into George Clooney, I hear he has a holiday home here.

Sadly, no sight of him. That's probably because George doesn't take public transport, such as this funicular built in 1894 to take people from Como to Brunate up in the mountains.

His loss, because Brunate is a quaint little village located 500m above Lake Como. It has some amazing views looking back down to the lake, and out to the Alps.

My favourite view is watching the funicular going up and down the 1km long track. The funicular ride is quite something.

After lingering around Brunate for a while, I headed back down the funicular again and wandered around Como town for a little while. I even walked back to the lake where all the yatches were, in the hope of seeing George. Still no luck. Maybe we weren't destined to meet. Time to head back to Milan.

Milan Duomo

The highlight of my Milan trip is visiting the Duomo, ie the cathedral. Cathedrals are magical places, and I say so even though I'm not religious. They bring peace and faith to their followers, and is a testimony of history and culture of a place for others.

What I love about Milano Duomo, and still makes it my all time favourite religious structure is its gothic architecture and amazing rooftop. Normally if you're allowed to go to the top of a cathedral, you'd be walking around the perimeter or likely in some sort of enclosed area with restricted views. Milano Duomo is unique in that visitors are allowed to actually walk ON the rooftop. That's such a freaking awesome experience and I have never seen anything else like that before (or after). There were many spires on the rooftop and getting to see the intricate masonry details so close was quite unbelievable.

One of my favourite image from this trip is this one, looking down from the rooftop at all by the people at the piazza.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

No trip to Milan would be complete without a visit to the city's most famous shopping arcade. It's next to the Duomo and even if you're not into shopping, a visit for it's architecture is a feast for one's eyes. After a weekend in Milan, I'd pretty much broke my bank already, but I felt a lot richer after visiting such a beautiful city.

Un recuerdo importante. Gracias por compartirlo

🤣 George would cross you but when you went into the shop to do that therapy thing. And that's why you couldn't see him. Hahaha... I loved that picture too and the one of the lake scenery. It's so beautiful!
Is that girl over there a Hollywood actress? Didn't you ask her about George? hahaha.... Can't you see he's behind her?

Where? Where? Where? You saw George?? I think he is definitely avoiding me. Maybe I need to go back and hunt him down!

George might be for many a good reason to go back there, but I prefer Como and its surroundings. 🤣

That rooftop experience looks incredible. That's a super unique thing to do. I've never heard of being able to do that before. The shot looking down is very cool. I can see all of the gargoyles in the photo. Awesome!

It's definitely the most memorable experience of all the buildings I've been to, did you not make it to Milan when you were in France?

No, we didn't make it to Italy at all during our time there. It's on our list though. Some day.

This looks like a beautiful trip! Was the outlet store better prices or was it just another store? I feel like outlet stores should be unique and have a reason for drawing you in, but many times they are just the same old thing.

The outlet was a lot better than the other one's I've been to. I find the ones in America a bit like a big mall rather than outlet, likewise for UK. That one in Switzerland had a lot of different brands

That is very cool. I'm not a fan of the ones here in the states.

Extraordinario lugar es como una película mucho éxito en tu recorrido

Thanks a lot, it was a very nice trip

Buen viaje por ese sitio maravilloso.👏

It was many years ago, a short trip from UK

😘🙏

Wow!
It must be truly exciting to enjoy these views firsthand and walk through such breathtaking sites!
Thanks for this tour!

Lake Como was very nice, as was the visit to the cathedral, glad you liked it

Been there, want to go again...and again. Nice snaps. ✅

Thanks. I haven't been back to Milan since this trip, I'd like to do the rooftop again, it was really amazing

I'd like to go back too. I was only talking a week ago about a villa somewhere around Lago di Como and how amazing it's be to laze away a few weeks and so some driving around. It's an amazing place.

now that must be fun being up on the roof looking down like a demi-god at the minions below. But you slipped up, you failed miserably, what were you doing?

Look again at that snap, closely, focus on the area of the blue mini bus top right hand corner

2nd person in from the left.... george fucking clooney!! complete with a carier bag full of nescafe coffee pods handing them out to all and sundry. Ho hum, guess you have never been lucky

have a nice day

You got eagle eyes, I never noticed the van before. Is it a mini van or police car? 🤔

I wouldn't mind a bagful of coffee pods, with or without George, but yeah, I've never been lucky... 😩

Eagle eyes to you too, indeed it is a police van!

This place is so beautiful and all your pictures are so amazing. Sometimes we need to go out and visit some new places and also meet new people.
Thanks for sharing

That's why I love travelling, I get to see so many different things and people

You truly captured the essence of being in Lake Como through these pictures. The Cathedral looks so majestic and I would 110% take my chance to walk on the rooftop😂
Such a wonderful experience this must have been 😄

It's very safe up there and such an amazing experience, especially seeing the architecture. Definitely worth going

The place is really very beautiful, it's to enjoy the beauty of the lake which shows the vast mountains, I really enjoy it ❤️🙏

I love Italian and European architecture in general, mainly gothic; the view from the top of the lake is simply beautiful, you can tell that the weather is cold but the sun gives that warm touch to the walk. As for the cathedral, it is mind-blowing, I think your experience on that trip, no doubt it was out of this world 🙌😀💛.... Greetings, it was very pleasant to read your tbt and appreciate such magnificent photos 🙏❤️.... You Rockkk!!! 👍😎🔥📸❤️

Thanks @fernanblog. This was a nice tbt for me reliving these moments, it's been a while

Shopping, travel, architecture, my God my dream trip 😅, I liked your photo on the rooftop of the church, you see many handsome men 🤣, I'm sure my future husband is waiting for me around those parts.

@livinguktaiwan 😙🤗

Moon is coming

I like your photo, it looks focused even though there are many people behind you.
Nice composition of buildings!

When visiting popular places, of course we will feel richer in terms of experience, because indeed that experience is very expensive. Even though it makes your wallet empty ehehe
Thank you for sharing your experience which will be an expensive dream for me :)

Unfortunately Europe is comparatively expensive to Asia, but you never know, Hive may moon one day making it affordable for everyone. When Hive moons, everyone wins!!
