Music Festival in Zambales, Philippines

CRYSTAL BEACH, ZAMBALES
Summer Siren Festival

The Summer Siren Festival is one of the Philippines’s best destination and music festivals. Combining the elements of Beach + Play + Party, Summer Siren is the ultimate celebration of our wonderful shores and word-class beats.

I went during it’s second year to happen, with my high school (and forever) friends.
The event usually takes place in Crystal Beach Resort, Zambales.

It is one of the most popular beaches in the country, where pine trees meet the waves. A surfing and camping spot that managed to become a popular destination without getting abused and destroyed.

So yeah... we went there from Manila via public bus.

There are daily buses from Victory Liner in Manila. There are different terminals where you can ride the bus from Caloocan, Cubao, Kamias, Pasay, and Sampaloc. The travel time Manila to Zambales is around 4 hours via Olongapo. And Manila to Zambales bus fare is 300-600 PHP.
Instead of booking a hotel or any accommodation, our friend brought a tent for us to camp outside the festival grounds, but still inside the venue premise. Cheap thrills!

As for the comfort rooms, there were provided inside the premises for everyone’s use.

The event went for 3 days and 2 nights. As many would know, music festivals are less formal, more open, and do not require assigned seating/standing arrangements, compared to concerts.

Each day and night has different sets of artists to play their music.
Many were unfamiliar to me; I am no longer updated with the new generation of artists and genre. And maybe the new ones are not really into my preferences. Hehe.

During the day, we would walk on the beach, listen to the waves (can you hear it?), mag-tampisaw sa dagat, do our usual bonding of asaran, chismisan, laitan, and harutan, and ‘minimal’ day-drinking.

I told my mom I didn’t drink any alcohol ’cause I was on meds at that time. Sorry again, mom ✌️😘✌️

I also had a little fun time to myself --

At night, of course, we were raving! Hahahaha! Just kidding, we behaved well, noh?

Very few of the artists who performed there that I know were Sandwich, Pedicab, Imago, and Moonstar 88. There were a lot of indie bands and uprising artists.

I think music festivals are a great platform to be recognized. One band that I really liked and enjoyed their music was The Ransom Collective, which is an indie-folk band known for their “spirited music that makes for perfect adventure tunes.” I fell in love with one of their members, Jermaine Choa Peck on their vocals and percussions. She looked very free-spirited and gracefully while playing on stage.
And also, their band has a violinist!
*This is not an ad 😂

Overall, it was a nice experience. Our high school group always wanted (but never happens) a getaway. So, this was once in a blue moon ganap. Hopefully, more to come even at our old age. Haha!

This was my first music festival, and probably the last. I might already be too old for this kind of gig. But we’ll never know. It will always be a ‘yes’ for these mofos 😏
So, let's see...
