I've never been a rock music fan, it was never my cup of tea. A while ago I was on holiday and one evening went to a rock music gig because I was held captive on a cruise ship. It turned out to be a great gig, like a sing along, the lyrics flashing out around the venue, as if the people needed it. They were all having a blast of time, including me even though I didn't know most of the songs. This is the venue, the setup was for another evening gig but you get the vibe.
Pour some sugar on me
This weekend I've been watching Bank of Dave, if you're looking for a lighthearted feel good film, I highly recommend this. In the film, the main characters are a big fan of Def Lappard. For those who don't know, like me, they're a big British heavy metal rock in the eighties and nineties. In the film the Def Lappard performed one of their most famous song Pour Some Sugar On Me. I recognised this immediately, it was one of the songs from the cruise gig, and one that I had so much fun belting out that evening. Great memories.
This video is a softer version of the song performed with Emm Gryner and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It's not as energetic as the original version, but I think they both have their own character. What do you think?
Valencia
Emm Gryner is not an artist I'm familiar with. After finding the above video, I looked into her profile and see that she's an Irish/Filipino singer songwriter from Canada. She's produced a lot of songs, and after going through her playlist, this one called Valencia is my favourite. I'm going to explore her other works later on.
Don't make me
After Emm Gryner, someone called ëmmë came up on my search. Emm .... Ëmmë. I don't even know how to pronounce his name. In English we don't use ë, it's more of an European thing. Maybe it's a marketing thing to make yourself stand out. I mean if you're an artist with a single word name, you don't want a boring one. Adele, Beyonce, Enya, Sia, Rihanna, Prince you get the idea.
Anyway, Ëmmë is an Australian dance music producer and does a lot of remixes and collaboration with other people. I don't recognise any of the names, bar one - Justin Bieber. He must be doing something right.
Don't make me is not the type of electronic dance music I had imagined. It's a very catchy song, almost pop.

When I started writing this post I just wanted to talk about the first song coz I was so happy to find a connection to my holiday. I had no idea about the other two, I was going to wing it. As I wrote my post, I discovered some new artists, something to explore further. Life is full of surprises, you just need to go with the flow.
How I would like to be on a cruise
Depending on your travel preferences, they can be good or bad for people, hope you can experience one sometime
Thank you, and may you travel in the ones you prefer.❤️
Def Leppard sure brings back memories of my teenage years. If I recall their drummer lost his arm in an accident and still was able to play really well.
When I am on Youtube looking for music I often find myself going down a rabbit hole and find stuff I have never heard before as well. It is kind of cool.
I was reading about their drummer as well, he was so young when he had his accident, and the rest of the band were great in not abandoning him. Who'd thought you can still be a successful drummer with one arm, just showa how one should never give up.
Rabbit holes are dangerous 😄
Oh, so from this fantastic world comes that purple (or is it more like pink?) whale 💜
I see, you were a rock girl for one evening ;) Although I really like the orchestral arrangements of songs, there are some great ones, I think I prefer the original in this case. Well, it is very nice with the piano and the orchestra but quite different 😅
Emm Gryner and Valencia - I haven't heard about her but yay, Valencia 😍
The whale can be whatever colour, as long as it pays me a visit 😂😂😂🤑🤑🤑
I found the alternative version with Emm Gryner much calmer and very unlike the original, like it was another song, or maybe because I don't know the original very well.
Hope you enjoy Valencia
Yes, like a different song, I had that feeling too
🤣🤣🤣
That sums it up really, forced bonhomie

Sounds like it was a great show even though it might have been out of your comfort zone a bit. I know sometimes they do theme cruises like this where all kinds of hair metal bands go on the same cruise and perform throughout the trip. It's like a giant festival on the water. I saw Def Leppard a couple of years ago and they still sounded great.
Thats one good thing about cruises, you get to see a lot of performances that you normally wouldn't, and often they're very good.
Def Leppard eh... Have not heard these guys in ages, they really know how to get a crowd going and still rocking at their age, more power to them!
Their performance were pretty electronic in the film, and I read they enjoyed the cameo appearance, as I did watching them, proper rock stars they were!
I am a huge 80s British pop band with bands like Tears for Fears and Duran Duran etc. I am not so in to rock but Pour some sugar on me is one I know and like to sing to also! Thanks for introducing the other artists, Emm Gryner is nice.
🎶 Everybody wants to rule the world 🎶
That was a great one.
I think the 80s was a great era for music, and I still have quite a few LPs that I play all the time!
Whenever @jarvie and I are on a road trip he plays 80s pop for me. In my post from Oregon that I am working on there is some great 80's music. What are the records you are listening too?
I felt like I was on a journey. A journey through time, something generational. I like the first song, you know rock always has its thing. :P
I'll take Pour Some Sugar On Me.
