Country Roads……….My Actifit Report Card: April 14 2024

Country roads…….well really it is a country trail, but it doesn’t bring to mind the same thing as the song does. 😏

The day began at church with another awesome worship and message. I’m really enjoying attending!

Once home, we made preparations for a hike. Jan was coming with. Destination: the pond at Westergreen’s. Last year on the way, we found a bunch of pseudo Morel ‘shrooms. She picked them as she thought they were the real McCoy, but were not. They are edible, but not everyone can eat them. I don’t care for ‘shrooms anyway and would not eat them as I’m no expert on them. Even experts have made deadly mistakes!

Our neighbor though, had no qualms about eating that batch last year and lived to tell the tale fortunately. Apparently the pseudo Morels do not bother her!

So we were hunting for some again hoping for the real deal this time, but where we are, is a little behind other areas because of the slight altitude increase. Consequently, no ‘shrooms were found of either variety. We will make another trek next week to see.

Onward to the pond. A nice reflection picture.

@actifit-lamb and Pepe Frog took a first hike together! @actifit-lamb was busy showing Pepe Frog the ropes.

Pepe told @actifit-lamb, ‘I smell pond!’ And grabbed her hoof and they went running and jumping to another tree stump just in front of the pond! There’s the pond behind them in the picture but it’s difficult to see.

@actifit-lamb wasn’t too sure about the water, so she grabbed Pepe’s front leg and she took him to see the grass she likes to eat.

Pepe say, ‘I like bugs on water, but grass soft.’ So, they stayed there for a while until it was time to go.

No one found any Morels anyplace, but it was a beautiful day to be outside and the mosquitoes weren’t too bad just yet.

I found a few Trillium here and there.

Some tiny, delicate yellow flowers…….

There is always something interesting to see in the forest! This property is owned by a land baron who replants what they take. I found this old growth stump with a skeletal root system probably from another tree that grew up on the original.

We turned around and headed for home. Upon the decent, there’s a very old Big Leaf Maple that is just beginning to show a bit of green on its branches. Green that is, besides all that moss, lol!

That’s gonna be it for now. Tomorrow, they are calling for rain, but our weather station is saying only 60% chance. It might not happen which is kind of what I’m hoping for. I’ve got 2 orders of 4 pounds each of coffee to roast tomorrow and I really want to go do some garden prep for this coming weekend. Fingers crossed 🤞 it doesn’t rain!☔️
