Life of The Sami Tribe

Quite often I mention the indigenous Sami people in my posts, especially often I turn to their mythology. Am I one of them? No. Do I know any of them intimately? No. Have I met them in my life? Yes. And these meetings remain in the memory forever, some of them fall into the lens…

How interesting to meet Kola Sami true nomads of the North living close to nature, thoroughly enjoyed learning a little of their story carried through the ages.

Few stay to continue by what I have learned being driven off lands they always freely roamed, much like our Khoisan peoples who only take what is needed from the land.

Well documented post once again.

Have watched a couple of documentaries or videos online about these fascinating people, they live an extremely hard life.

Some tribes believe 'you steal their soul' taking photographs, always respectful to ask what is allowed.

These are incredible. I love the dog shots and those of the northern lights. My wife and I have a long time goal of sleeping under the northern lights.

That would be so awesome

Wow! In the minds of people like me who grew up and only watched these kinds of sceneries in movies, these communities seem unreal. Hopefully, I can visit these northern communities in the future! Awesome article! Keep'em coming! ❄️❄️❄️

Ohhh my current address is Japan, but I came from and grew up in the tropical country of the Philippines! 🇵🇭 That is why my sentiments were as emotional as that! 😊

Well I do agree that Japan definitely has its charm and that's definitely one of the reasons why I am currently living here. Looking forward to your travel here in Japan in the future! ✨

And yes, your articles are one of my favorites here in PeakD! I hope you don't get tired of writing them! ✨

Fantastic photos of a beautiful environment. Here in Northern Sweden, though a few hours north of my home base, we too have a quite strong Sami culture, though I get the feeling that the Swedish Sami culture is a bit more urbanized in general than the Kola Samis. Just my impression, I’m personally not involved in the culture.

Great read and great photos, as always. The environment you’re photographing is one of the most enchanting.

Yes, almost neighbors. The north unites, indeed!

These information is good enough to put together a good documentary about the Kola Sami nomadic life. While reading, I felt like I was watching a documentary film, awesome write up.

Great story and beautiful pictures. It brought me back to when I lived in norther Sweden over 20 years ago and even some trips I made above the arctic circle.

Beautiful pictures and storytelling, as always

Beautiful photos. Love seeing the northern lights, dogs and reindeer. Amazing they still live the nomadic lifestyle. Remind me of our indigenous people, with the teepee and nomadic lifestyle, they lived at one time.

You mentioned they did not like their photo taken. The Amish here feel the same way..no pictures of them but you can take one of the horse.

You must have a honest face then, dear Northman. 😃 But seriously that is quite a honour.

What an incredible place :) ... Do any of the Yakut who might not want to give up the old ways ever join them?

I hope there will always be such places and people!

It must be such a unique experience to get to see both the tribes and the Aurora which is a fascinating event for many people out there. I've only got to learn more about tribes and mythology in general by watching shows with this purpose or reading but when you have the chance to do so right from the genuine places, there is no term of comparison! Loved your post and experience! 😁

WOW! By far the best post i have ever seen on Hive! Your photos, the story everything are amazing! Congratulations! I wish could vote more for you, you really deserve it

The photos took my breath away, for me being a lover of the south and Greece, your photos make me feel the needles of ice in the dog's fur, I am reminded that I will never see Aurora other than in photos. Thank you!

Very beautiful nature

This is truly one for the books! You've definitely captured the life of nomads through your amazing photos. Each of them tells a story. And oh, I love the animal shots and the northen lights in the background is like something i can only see/watch on movies. Haha!I wonder what would their tents look like in the inside tho.

Anyways, great job @thenortherner! All the best!

Fantásticas fotos, sobre todo para conocer culturas nuevas y lejanas, me sorprende la belleza de aurora boreal. saludos mi amigo y mucho éxito.

This is such a well-done piece! I reposted it even though it is 9 days old because, money aside, this is meant to be read and shared. I am interested in them and their story, I had never heard of them, but what a fascinating life, living pure and simple.

There are few that would take upon themselves this mission in life.

Thank you!
