Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to explore how as time goes on, we tend to change things up a little bit!

Time Management Adjustments

The working world is one that's part of humanity, for the most part over the better part of 500 years or so since the days of the Silk Road started. We have been in the business cycle really since, because with trade and other benefits from the widespread of commerce, money has been a central focus for people since really the abolishment of the feudal system in favor of one that is centered around currency, trade and work.

With work being the thing that we all have to do to one extent or another, one of the things that becomes important is time management. Many people work pretty long hours and that requires long hours of some type of alternate downtime activity. With my hectic work schedule lately, where I'm getting a lot of things done but at decent expense to my energy levels, one of the things that I'm really looking to do is manage my time better and more effectively so that I can unwind as much as I get wound up during the various activities during my work day.

Of late, one of the things that blows my mind is how quickly my workday starts and ends. It's really terrible, if I will be honest! I don't think that it's a good thing for us to be so busy that we barely blink and it's lunchtime, then take in a breath and it's 4pm. We accomplished a lot during the day, hopefully but at what cost, really? Yes I get to apply my skills and become an effective member of my team, where people rely on me for things and I rely on my colleagues for other things. With the volume of things going on though, it sometimes becomes untenable. I enjoy the work that I'm doing for sure but with how busy I've been and the added stress levels, one of the things that I've absolutely started to look forward to is the unwind time as much as I look forward to getting into the work for the day.

I'm glad that I'm able to enjoy the work that I do and contribute in positive ways; a lot of people are sadly not in that situation and that's absolutely unfortunate. This allows me to not dread the work I start each day, but that also doesn't mean that I shouldn't look forward to the times when I'm not working and doing something I enjoy more such as spending time with my wife and son, going outdoors and doing things like that. Alongside those after work activities for sure is Hive and the ecosystem here.

I get a lot of enjoyment on Hive with the engagement I'm able to do and generate on a daily basis to see the people I'm following, the people who check out my posts and hopping into different feeds or communities to drop a few comments. One of the things that I've had to start doing though is changing up my posting habits so that I generate posts for the blockchain on the weekdays but I take the weekends off from writing and reserve that for other things like commenting but most importantly, sleeping! Lol.

With the added work stress, one of the things that I wasn't getting enough of is mental recharge and brain data defragmentation that occurs when we sleep. That meant that my writing posts every day or every other day was being negatively affected. I'm glad that I'm able to take a look back at some of these situations and analyze them to see what has worked well and what doesn't and needs to be improved. My time management is definitely one of those skills that I'm working on getting better at!

I've been putting into practice the past 3 or 4 weeks or so on time management with my Hive activities so that I have certain days of the week where I'm writing and other days of the week that I'm focusing on engagement but most importantly, I'm also focusing on the time away from the blockchain! I know we all need to spend a good amount of time here on Hive but at the same time, if we spend too much time on Hive, that I know some people absolutely do and I have a few names that come to mind, it's important to strike a balance and find a middle ground with which we can feel good about our time on Hive and the time that we spend in the real world. An added benefit with this change in my daily routine, one of the things that I think has improved is that my mood in the real world has gotten better and I think it's a significant part that it relates to my increase in sleeping lately!

The good thing about some types of change is that it can happen and allow us to improve our lives. This adjustment to my time management has certainly given me more of a balance on things, which is great!

I am also trying that approach as well. As sometimes there are days when it's scattered but I want to do better with my engagement. For me, Saturday and Sunday are the best to do engagement and catching up with everything else. I am sure it's not that easy especially when you have A job outside Hive. But to me, you're the most consistent person I've seen around here and that's awesome when you can juggle so many things from personal life, work, and Hive too!

Yeah the funny thing about the situation is, I guess the saying is true "the best laid plans are..." when we figure out a way to do something but then don't follow it quite the same another time haha. I didn't follow my methods this weekend! I know I'm going to be a little more tired for work tomorrow but I got really excited and into trying to connect my Python to Hive SQL. I didn't have success yet but I'm hoping to get that squared away this week!

Thanks Mac, I appreciate it! It's certainly difficult at times but like the good things in life, they are worth doing! Work sometimes gives me a bunch of things to talk about which is nice, so I certainly enjoy that aspect of it, besides also getting paid to do what I do lol

Juggling is the name of the game sadly! I like it but some days it gets tiring. I figure I need to juggle it all though because my son deserves the best out of me, and this is how I can help deliver that best!

When I first started working, I really didn't have any sense of work-life balance hehe I just wanted to be a good team member at work (sometimes to the extent of sacrificing my personal life). I learned the hard way that it isn't really healthy. I'm glad you're trying to be more balanced with time management!
