Pure Content Without Noise

Have you ever imagined Hive without seeing its reward mechanism?

I got excited when I logged in today as I was trying to change my reward default to 100% powerup for my post and comments. I found this particular option that really intrigued me.

Enjoy the content on the Hive Blockchain without post reward.

I enabled that option and everything felt like a shiny brand new place. You don’t really see people with rewards. It’s pure content with only likes and comments sections to see.

Perhaps it’s the novelty that really intrigued me but I feel like there’s some extra noises removed from my brain. It reminds me of my ultimate reason when I first found this place and trying to grow as a writer.

A lot has happened, life happened and I’ve been here talking about things that really mattered to me. In fact, this opened up new excitement to me. As much as I have always relied on pure content as a curator, there are moments in my life when as a content creator, I tried to appeal to the masses, to content that people like rather than what I like. Now though, I don’t do that anymore, I’ve found myself once again, and write just as I please.

I love writing, I enjoy writing and reading, that’s all there is to it.

To be honest, I can’t point out the exact feeling, maybe it's a comparison? But I don’t know, I am just happy to have that feature enabled and I can explore the chain more freely. For someone who tends to be quite competitive, that piece of reward on the left side has quite been fueling that side. It shouldn’t be that way because again, I love writing, I enjoy writing and reading, that’s all there is to it, to think that I’ve been trying to make all this into some type of competitive thing, well honestly.. I don’t think I did bad either. Again, all that wouldn’t be possible without everyone supporting me here, So, thank you to everyone who has supported my writing journey here.

There has to be some magic involved as I don’t know it’s quite a new feeling to just see the chain as pure content. It’s not that before there wasn't pure content around here, I just feel as if with the extra reward shown, sometimes I couldn’t feel the authenticity of the writing and some people’s pressure to churn out writing as if there’s no tomorrow. I have to admit, during one of my years here, I got caught up into that and got burned out.

Sometimes I read template-ish content that feels like it was just a mediocre latte. Where’s the uniqueness in there when you’re just following someone's template?

Let me ramble a little bit…

I am a lowkey analyst and a few people have seen some of my silly data and research. I can comb through the chain and learn how the game works. It’s all time consuming for sure and sometimes I don’t even follow my own result of the data I gathered but one thing for sure, everything can be analyzed 😂

All these felt superficial to me since honestly, this is a space where you can be your best authentic self and maybe that’s why, I love that option on peakd where I don’t have to see how much a content worth based on people’s judgement but rather do I want to spend a fraction of my time reading that piece certainly without all the extra noises around. Just as I said, pure content.

In the past, when I am judging a content to be curated , it’s almost as if that extra noise is there. It gets challenging for sure to objectively determine which has to be curated and which should not. But without that extra noise, that gets easier. Why didn't we do this 4 years ago? 😆

By the way, I am hosting a book chat every Saturday at 4:30 PM UTC. Come hang out on Hive Book Club Server to see me hosting it. You don’t need to have a book ready, we can talk about books, coffee and everything in between.

See you there!

That's very interesting. Now that I read it, I realized that I generally use the amount of reward to see if a post is worth reading - but that is already totally biased. The same post by someone who has a lot of HP and followers and someone who just started - I would read the whale's post, because it will have more rewards. I might be missing out on a lot of good writing.

On the other hand, I do get into low reward posts that have an interesting headline sometimes. And a lot of times they aren't really that good. With low reward I mean everything under 1 Hive/day online. I'll have to think about it - or just jump in and try.

Thank you for this post and make me question my beehiveiour (please don't kill me for that pun)!

Thank you for this post and make me question my beehiveiour

🤣🤣🤣🤣

That had me laughing hard!

It's true though. I use the rewards for the same purpose. Which is pretty stupid, actually.
Sometimes I get caught in a semi-good (at best) article that just has a whale vote for like $10 rewards. And then that leaves me wondering what that particular post has to deserve a vote like that.

Perhaps hiding the rewards per default would be a good idea 🤔

That's what I thought too. For all these time we're pretty biased when judging a content. We tend to check out content that has a good value just because we wondered, " What makes it a good one and deserved that amount?" or something else. It can totally be a mediocre piece of writing but because other factors, that can do well. When you remove that factor, it's pure content.

For me if the title is too long, the thumbnail isn't great, I'd skip it just based on content alone. In practice, that's how that should work 😂 So, I am very happy to have that enable that won't cloud my judgement.

And that's a good one to be added to new Hive vocabulary. I hope you'll be enabling that feature and experience hive in much different way and not shying away from content that has lesser value because usually, some of them aren't that bad.

Reading the "Pure Content" got me thinking and question, "How do we tell if one post is pure content?" Now my mind is in shambles? Its actually a simple question but I can't tell now 😆. But really, pure content for me before seeing this post was those post that features "personal experiences" that's why I read them a lot. I am not sure if its just me but what caught my attention the most when reading an article is those post without "big rewards" or sometimes with just few, some are just cents. Those are the kind that I can read sometimes and can relate to, a personal blog, like that. I love to read those kind, I sometimes skip post about cryptos coz that makes my head hurts and I had to reread it a few times just to understand it. It's quite challenging, lol. Visiting communities per communities is fun too coz that's where I find some personal blogs and I purposely choose those with few rewards.

I also use this to read newly published one, but I sometimes read those in the "hot" and "trending" too, rarely. Hehe.

I guess what I meant by pure here is the idea that you see content as is. In SEO there are a couple of practice to determine whether a content is good/mediocre. Some of the basic one would be the title, then thumbnail and then the content itself. For the longest time on Hive, we're always seeing the extra noise which is the amount of reward on the left side but I mean, with that being removed, it doesn't subtly cloud our judgement.

Personal experiences do well because they're fun to read and has its own niche, so I can understand the appeal.

Well, yes... it's really interesting, and I thank you for sharing this information. I like to see my blog that way, without rewards. Just letting whatever comes, come.

I see it as more private in the sense of others. And I like that too.

Good to know that this feature is more known. I mean, everyone should know about it 😁 that is really improves your experience around here and in general. So, glad to see that it finally rolls out.

Passion speaks louder for you, I guess. And it is an admirable thing. It's hard to find pure content nowadays since some revolve on how much response they can get. And yes, analytics. It can be addicting and exciting whenever your content gets lots of positive reacts and responses. You get more hyped up to create content that your target audience like, forgetting the: "What do I like?" in the process.

It's a journey, we're all bound to try one thing or two. I have tried many things and I am happy where I am now, at least my ship has gone to the direction that once I dream about😊

I agree when you said that this is a space where you can be your best authentic self. I'm not the type who post personal photos on online platforms, but here, I think I found a safe space as well.

That's basically it. For many others this is their personal space, their online diary and a lot of them are more comfortable here than the other social media platform.

Oh that's an amazing feature! It would stop me getting pissed off when I see other poeple get consistantly over 50 HP for doing not much at all haha. A good reminder that I shouldn't worry about tht and just enjoy checking in on people on Hive and writing, because like you, I also enjooy it.

Right??? That feature is definitely a good reminder not too worry about anything else and just enjoy our time here. I learned that it's probably why platform like Youtube, instagram, tiktok etc don't really show how much a creator makes. They make money but that's their personal thing. Even if there's a website to check their earnings, it's not like everyone spends their 20 minutes checking how much youtuber makes on a particular content. The people that are consuming there, just enjoying the content as is.

Yeesh... that sure feels different. In a way, posts don't look the same. Might just keep it that way for a while.

I am basically keeping it. I love the feature and I will never go back. It's one way to experience this space without the extra noise and stress if our content isn't doing so well.
