While this post seems like a rant or just random and filtered thoughts that are sprinkled with a little bit of feel-good photos, because it probably is, I just want to say that I have to let these thoughts be put out there.
I have been guilty of inconsistent posting and commenting on others' posts, but I can still say that I'm living and breathing Hive. While it's not an excuse, I have been occupied by my curation work and onboarding initiative. When we are in a Blockchain that boasts about rewarding all kinds of participation, it seems that there are purist stakeholders who prefer one form of participation more than others when all forms are equally important to make Hive into an ideal ecosystem for all.
I was a purist myself, in terms of how I view my posts, but everything changed in the advent of AI. As a curator, I have a different criteria when I look at other's posts, but as a content creator, I'm more critical towards my posts. I want my posts to be in long form and well-formatted. But with the proliferation of AI, there's no saying that one's post is not AI-generated. Now, long form or short form, as long as the content is genuinely yours, it's more valuable than AI-generated. But who knows until when will we be able to distinguish content.
In terms of onboarding, I noticed that it's not really an appreciate work in Hive. I'm grateful that I'm part of OCD where onboarding is one integral initiative. However, throughout Hive, it seems onboarding is often overlooked. Let's be honest to ourselves that Hive has a steep learning curve. Presenting someone with a link is not enough. You'll have to be with your onboardee throughout the whole process. And that's what we're doing with different orientations conducted in schools. See the second and third photo above. I just hope that either the slope of the learning curve is lowered or there's a centralized funding for onboarding.
While I'm so thankful to Hive for letting me do the things I love, like travel to places at my own pace and time as in the first photo above, I can't help but felt discouraged by how others act here. Just because it's allowed by the code doesn't mean you have the free rein. There's what we call as common sense, but it seems it's not common after all. I guess personal interest trumps common sense.
I hope that legitimate initiatives from passionate stakeholders won't be caught be opposing forces with huge influence. I just want Hive to a place of opportunities, not a place of warring feudal lords.
I'm thankful for the last three years that I'm living off of Hive and as much as I want it to continue for more years, it might not happen. I'm not planning to leave. I'll just probably find something out of Hive that I'm really passionate about.

So in the spirit of openness let me share that I recently gave up posting pinmapple stories. Let me explain why - imagine me spending hours on my computer selecting and post-processing some of my best travel photographs then spending a couple more hours writing my own words to describe what I saw, felt, etc.
Frankly, I cannot compete anymore with people who create much longer articles than mine, with copy-pasted info (sourced or not, it doesn't matter) or generated by AI. I realize that all curator in that lovely travel community must be very busy but my time is precious too. I hope there is a good solution to not rewarding pasted or AI-generated texts but until then I'll focus on the visual part. HIVE has changed a lot in the last year, and IMO, not in the best possible way. As yourself, I am very thankful to HIVE and all the people on the platform and up until recently my heart was beating with HIVE but lately it is more and more turning from passion into a bank, where I just hold some money...

Focusing on the visual part is good! Your photos are stunning, as always, and I agree that competing with copy-pasted and AI content is futile. It's like swimming against the current. But it's good to throw in some long-form content from time to time. Not anyone but for yourself. That's what I always tell myself. That one day in the future, all I have is the time to read what I've written on this platform.
Looking at Hive as a bank is not bad, either. It's even the best bank out there. I always tell myself to look for a new job and just treat Hive as a side hustle, but I still fail in that area.

I am pretty sure that are only a handful of people who read longer posts but that appears to be hive's dogma - the longer the more rewarded.
I clearly remember one of my longer travel posts when I used this combination of strings: <3 and thus I hit a bug that showed the count of words in my post as 38, instead of what was the real value of nearly a thousand. Guess what - that post was barely rewarded. That was a clear evidence to me most people just check the word count and even don't read or enter the post itself lol... That bug was fixed after I reported it to both peakd and ecency but the feeling remains :) Anyway.
I believe that quantity over quality is very bad for content in the long run. Especially when people use content that isn't their own. Why would we need all sorts of shit already existing elsewhere.
Unique and exclusive content will make HIVE stand.
And that's the source of my frustration - I have created content exclusively for HIVE in the last years, Sometimes HIVE is the only place I put my photographs and stories. I am a stubborn blogger but check my post rewards - none of the big whales supports me directly. Probably I've said something or I am trying to be too independent but if everyone claims content is the most important thing here, well, this just doesn't make any sense to me. Or maybe the whales are giving me a hint I am no longer welcome here. Can't say for sure.
I am exactly in your position - Hive was aiding my daily life in a nice way, providing food and some extras for my household. Lately I can only pay the gas for my car that I spend driving to do the grocery shopping...
So I really get your pain. But once it turns from passion to side-hustle there comes the evaluation of the ratio of time spent and income.

Agreed, the onboarding process is difficult. I am impressed by all the work that is happening there in the Philippines with onboarding!
In my own experience the onboarding is easier than retention. Back in the times we were all steemians I had an hour-long presentation, no Zoon, real people in the same room and then about a third of the 50 people present created accounts. Few of them still post but the most of them shortly left after I wasn't able to answer the common question "why the article by this other blogger, with similar quality get hundreds of rewards while mine doesn't". Bloggers will change for HIVE for the rewards mostly and the rewards are a rather fair valuation of their content. No or low valuation, they feel not appreciated and sooner or later they are gone.
I agree that retention is the most difficult part, but I can say that the onboarder has little influence on that. What we're doing at OCD in terms of retention is good, but it's difficult to scale up as it really requires work and even then, we are not sure if the individual is still willing to stay the 4 months in the incubation program.
Actually, let me be, again, 100% honest :)
In my opinion, the incubation program needs some balancing. Giving new users' posts hundreds will just give them the wrong impression it's easy money. And once they are out of the incubation and their rewards go back to the "regular" values their motivation to post quality stuff will evaporate ;)
It took me few months on steemit in 2018 to get my posts above $1. Probably that's one of the reasons I am still here, lol :)
Also, I think Incubation drives some people to abandon their old accounts and create new ones just to get under your radar. Or just create and create new ones. I know it must be hard and time consuming to filter good from bad but pumping new users that much gets noticed by everyone too. Not many will comment though.

And I got here surprised by the first picture 😅 Well Kim, I've always thought that in Hive there is room for everything, here in Venezuela we work a lot on incorporating new members to the ecosystem and keep teaching people to grow quickly through the creation of content; this has always caught my attention, but my work in music is intense and although I want to do more at the moment I'm happy as a curator, besides, I'm not as talented as others to express myself and explain in public hehe... Nothing is eternal my friend, eventually new passions will appear, but hopefully you will continue to find magic in this blockchain ✌️
My thumbnail photo is a hook. But the content is sort of gloomy. Anyway, I'm impressed by what you're doing in Venezuela. You people were able to penetrate on businesses and that's difficult to do here in the Philippines.

I agree na lisud na jud unya idistinguish ang human ug AI-generated content, but having your own character in your work is much more valuable for me. I think compliment man sha na maflag as AI-content imo work. It means maayo ka musuwat.

I think that hive is definitely a great place and with the ease of onboarding to the large “social media” platforms like Fakebook and their ilk, it makes it challenging for a place like hive where you have to learn and actively participate because you are not the product they are selling. It’s a paradigm shift and those are always difficult to do - but often very rewarding in many different areas!
I think that it’s good at the same time though for there to be disagreements on the platform - we need to be a mixture of ideas and strategies. It makes for a more interesting and varied platform when we have varying perspectives. It also promotes discussion of issues and reasons why things are done which is crucial in a day of silencing opposition. It’s best to talk about things!!
