The Metro and parking are the high ticket items for the most part when you are visiting the city, discounting food and shelter. I always tell anyone who is money conscious (and who isn't?) to stay outside of the city, perhaps in Maryland and Metro in. It saves money. This was really meant to say that most of the tourist attractions including all the Smithsonian's (although there is another Smithsonian in Virginia that houses planes and space shuttles) It is free, but, if you drive there, the charge for parking is $20.00.
I have done this with my kids when I was homeschooling them. Definitely an education. Then watching Congress in action. I learned so much from these experiences.
As always, there must be flowers to color my world. #alwaysaflower
And just like that, this post is done. I hope you had a good time and learned a little something new. If I haven't told you lately, I want to thank you for taking the time to visit, read, and comment. Always remember, #MarketFriday loves you! Have a most fabulous day! Cheers!!

Thanks again, dswigle - @dswigle. Look for the US Aircraft Carrier.
Haha! Virginia Beach! I have no problem finding one! :)
Super cool! Thank you!

Oh, I love Washington D.C. What an amazing city. I'm sure I've mentioned before that I lived there for nearly a year one time, after college. I loved the Smithsonian. It's so massive and there is always something new to see. What a lovely collection of pictures. It really made me miss it. I haven't been back in many years.
I finally got my Market Friday post done. Woo hoo! https://peakd.com/hive-196308/@jayna/market-friday-a-day-late
Oh, I already took care of it! :) For a change, I got to you quickly as I seem to always be hitting yours almost dead last!
What a great time to live in DC, right after college~ I still love it, and Smithsonian's number 17 now, including the zoo. I cannot believe how many people visit here and don't do anything but look at the buildings because they don't realize most of them are free entry! I no longer put up bunches of pictures at a time as people appreciate them in smaller batches. I guess I understand but, it feels so incomplete. I will post more when the cherry blossoms burst. Very soon!
I don't have any pictures from that time in my life! Do you have any from DC?
Thanks for stopping by and leaving the link! Mwah! Always good to see you!
#MarketFriday loves you!
I went to DC and although I remember seeing a lot of places, I don't think I saw this and I'm sure I would remember it if I did because it's so stunning-especially that scupture work. What a magnificent masterpeice!
I went to the FBI museum, The Whitehouse (funny story there too...) and to be honest, I know I went to a few other places, but that's all remember clearly...I was only there for a couple of days- 25years ago...🤣
Excellent post thank you ( as you always create..) and I have book marked this to read again later!
The sculptures are outside of the Library of Congress! You wouldn't forget if you saw it, it is an incredible building inside and out! I even have a library card for there! :)
I dislike going to the Whitehouse, but, was lucky enough to get 3 or 4? private tours after house, so got to see places, not on the tour. It was super cool. Staff at the White House have special privileges to do that. The FBI museum is a paid entry fee, so I never recommend it. LOL There are so many free things to do there, you can be there a week and not run out of them.
I didn't post many pictures of DC because people get tired of them when I do that, but, it is fair game when the cherry blossoms come out!
Thanks so much for stopping by!!!!!!!
#MarketFriday loves you!
The union station looks like worth a visit.
I'd like to see the Library of Congress one day.
Here's my lunch deal this week.
https://hive.blog/hive-105017/@ace108/markettea-thunder-tea-by-the-god-of-wealth-or-by-ace108
You will love the Library of Congress. I will have to take pictures down by the tracks at Union Station. Usually, it is too busy to do that and I am in transit, so I never think of doing the everyday things. Although there is another whole life of shopping and eating there.
Hi, Ace! @ace108! Always good to see you. You have been keeping a low profile and I have been so busy, I don't seem to get out much. (of the profile) I hope you and your wife are doing well!
Thank you for being part of #MarketFriday and reading, commenting, and dropping your link!

We do what we do without worrying too much though the COVID-19 cases are increasing.
It seems we are still continuing to relax a bit more with increasing infection like what Korea is doing.
Hong Kong is more following the China strategy and they seem stretched and started using hotels for isolation which is something we did here two years ago.
We are now in 50% can go workplace mode so I still try to go in twice a week.
Work is also busy but not something cannot be dealt with but I guess we won't go 4 day work week like Belgium and some other European countries in my work life time.
Itinteresting to see the different outcomes for battling the virus. I wish we had one way, although each State does it independently of each other.
I think you guys in bigger countries have it more complex with different states having different variations
Nice, lots of information, a real treat for a walk around Washington, DC, which I love. Lots of history, architecture and greenery, many museums and... the zoo!
Now let me tell you what impressed me most.
...and at the end, I'm glad you put on the clematis!
Totally agree with that: "We have to make use of what is available".
I will delay with my posting. I have no inspiration and have to leave home, but I hope this walk will help.
Thank you, Denise, for another near-perfect post, because I know you don't think perfection exists either!
I love Union Station too! It is the main Metro station also - all of the lines cross over there. I also love the architecture of the city, I always have and walk the streets endlessly, just looking, just like it is my first time. I never tire of it. I never mentioned I homeschooled? Really? I guess I just talk about it to the homeschooling groups and what worked and what didn't work for me. We had three private tours of the White House, watched a bill being passed in Congress, watched Supreme Court cases being tried. Toured the US Mint where they minted the money. You can no longer go in there. The Library of Congress is the most incredible with its architecture! And the Capitol! Oh, beauty. It is incredible. I have a love/hate relationship with Washington, DC. When it went into riots last year, it scared me. Too close and I was working near there. Then again, it has never happened before.
No worries about the post. I still need to get back to the one I have holding my space. I am so disappointed in how little time I have lately.
The clematis! I love them! And perfection, we all know about that, right? :)) Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving an amazing comment. I didn't put many pictures because usually, people don't care for pictures of Washington, DC or maybe I include too many cemeteries, so I cut the number of sights and will put more in when the cherry blossoms start!
Have a great day !!!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Thanks, @dswigle! Although we're in the same time crunch and you obviously understand me, I must apologize for the delay.
I love your love/hate relationship with your city... it's the same as it is with me. I understand your sorrow for what happened there, I was also very upset, even though I am thousands of miles away. Something happened that shouldn't have happened..., for me it's a picture of what will be in the future. It reminds me of what history used to tell us, about barbarian attacks on the evolved civilizations of the Greeks, the Romans. Unfortunately, they too had reached a decadence that only hastened their collapse.
About homeschooling, I didn't know but probably I didn't read those posts where you probably mentioned it. I find it very interesting but also hard to do.
The fact that you didn't put a lot of photos is somehow in your style. When you have lots of words you don't, like me, need lots of photos!
Well, Denise, have a nice week!
Absolutely. I can remember being afraid to go to work. Taking the Metro. Parking the car and had to walk more than a block to get where I needed to be. Nobody should feel that terrorized. Yet, when you are confronting those that love you, it is the brave front to make them feel safe inside their own home. Diligent, but, safe.
I always felt safe growing up.
Homeschooling was hard for a while, especially sorting it into my already busy day, and they did go to regular school at times when it didn't work. So, I am not a cradle to graduation homeschooler. :) You know, I do things halfway.
Thank you, always, Dan! My week had been good until I listened to the news first thing this morning. :( God help those innocent people.
Why, why? I do the same...
Ha! No way!!!
It's considered one of my flaws and I admit that sometimes it upsets me too.
I love the fountain and the tour of the city, I visited there a few times but for work meetings and never go to see much of it, maybe one day I will
here is my post for this week https://peakd.com/marketfriday/@tattoodjay/market-friday-r7hyn1
I hope you do! It is right up your alley. You do amazing photos in cities! Thank you so much for stopping by and reading my post! I hope you are having a good time with the kids!

Having a great time with them
May even do some Bahbahrah photos with Zoey today, her idea she even brought a little bag of props to use
That is so cool! That will be fun to have her back again! Have a great time!
How the memories come flooding back! I will be giving away my age here but it was 1997, I was a baby 20 year old and living in MA, Georgetown as an au pair for two little children. Their parents worked for NASA and travelled internationally a lot. They were also very seldom home so I had a huge responsibility and was thrown in the parenting deep end. On my first week off I visited a friend who worked in Washington DC. It was the week of the fourth of July! Of all places. The cherry trees were a picture and the city was packed! We didn't get to see Congress in action but we did wander through the streets and well known buildings. It was quite an experience. I far preferred skiing in New Hampshire and white water rafting in .... I can't remember where. Also the beautiful hikes through breathtaking New England in the Fall. And visiting my cousin in the California countryside. But going to your nations capital remains a unique memory
Hehe! I told you I am a New Englander, right? I also went to school in New Hampshire for a year, but, everything is close and I could go to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and Connecticut easily in one day. :) It is our preference to live there.
I went back home in the Fall and did many hikes. My daughter works as an au pair/nanny One works for the Department of State, the other a lawyer. And always, always traveling. So yes. I get it.
You have seen more, done more than most people will ever do in a lifetime! Thank you for sharing your story! I loved it and It is a unique place, but, not at all what I expected when I got here!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Oh yes! Everything is close there. I love New England - it has a beauty all its own. And the people are different. Well they were way back then, to my rather protected and naive South African mind.
While it must be hard on you to have your children far away at least it give you an excuse to travel. My parents-in-law yesterday were bemoaning all their other (and adult) grandchildren living so far away, and some overseas. One of my children spun around singing "But Ouma - WE ARE HERE!!!!!"
Only the one in Grad School. I have two others home. But, one gone is like a big hole. :)
I just love your blog Denise, all the buildings so steeped in history! My favourite is Union Station, just magnificent, it's a beautiful city indeed!
My humble blog on Bloomingdales, a little nursery in the midst of a city suburb, hope you enjoy it.
Thank you and now I wish I had added a lot more of the city, but, I always feel like everyone gets tired of seeing Washington, DC and the Arlington Cemetery. I always think of them as in the same place, although technically, the cemetery is in Arlington, Virginia. A story for another day.
Thank you so much for being a part of #MarketFriday AND commenting on my post and dropping your link! Whew! What a mouthful!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Thank you for this trip to DC @dswigle I've not been in years .The fountain makes me think a bit of the magnificent Trevi Fountain in Italy that is so amazing. All of this makes me long for a trip both there and also abroad, how I've missed Europe, but travel still not on my list just yet, with our World haha.
Lovely and wonderful #marketfriday per usual, thank you for this outting @dswigle
I lived in Italy, but, it was in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. Not for very long, but, a very significant stay. I loved Rome and the Vatican and the food! Italy was a bit dirtier than most of Europe, but, you never even noticed it because it was so amazing!
#MarketFriday loves you!
I miss Europe and travel, but, like you, just not ready to dive right in. Thaks so much for stopping by and leaving your words. I hope you have an amazing day!
DC metro looks like center oriented, an ideal metro unlike NYC. However, NYC is big city and hard to manage, still has one of the best public transport in the states. Here is entry for this week: Market Friday goes to United Brothers Fruit Store on 30th Avenue, Astoria, New York City🌝
I am from Connecticut, so the NYC subway was what I was used to growing up. It does have the best transportation that I have found. The Metro is much nicer, but, it is always broken down, stopped, taken off the tracks and the snow kills it. So, I have to agree with you. :)
Thank you so much for reading, commenting, and dropping the link! It is much appreciated. Have a wonderful day!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Thanks for the tour ! I was there January 3rd , last year ! Never felt so accomplished in my life. I couldn't believe my eyes: those buildings I had seen on movies and TV . ( thankfully , I was not there when the "riots/assault" happened at the Capitol)!
For me the most beautiful building was the Supreme Court. I wish I can come back there one day! Beautiful city ( at least what I got to see)
https://peakd.com/@francisaponte25/having-lunch-at-a-historic-train-depot-in-kent-ohio
Oh, the riots were awful! I mean they were really aweful. I was so ashamed to see people acting this way. I was worried about our country, this is something I have never seen on our soil. Not like this. So, I am glad you were not there.
There is so much to see here, I never put more than a few pictures of things anymore as most don't read it if it is too long or has too many pictures. In a while, when the cherry blossoms come out, I will post more of the downtown. Usually, I like to post when I got the forest or hike. People know what a city looks like. :))
Thanks for stopping by and dropping your link!
#MarketFriday loves you!
No, please!post more about the city, that area from the Capitol to Lincoln Memorial and the White House . That's all amazing > Beautiful buildings and the headquarters of many important offices and institutions in the USA and the world. And yes, the country looked to different those days . So weird to me , that I come from where I come
I have posted downtown many times and I will continue to do so as the seasons change. I am so behind today! I don't know how so many people get so much done on here!
I hope you are having a great night and yay! The weekend is upon us!
I've never been to Washington D.C. but it looks like such a cool town. I love the architecture and all of the monuments. The photos actually remind me a lot of Europe. I'll have to check it out some day
I think you would like it there. There is so much to do, so much to see, Within the District, Smithsonian Institute has 17 museums, galleries, and a zoo. Believe it or not, they are all free! They are all different, from the origins of man, the wonders of art, the history and future of flight and animals! So much to see, for free!
And the architecture is straight from Europe. It was built when the country was new and everyone here was from Europe. I hope you do come! Just not in the summer with the other tourists!
Awesome shots! I know I have mentioned this before, but I remember visiting the city as a kid. We camped at a campground outside the city and took the subway in. I remember taking a tour of the treasury building and the air and space museum. I also remember a ton of walking. I still have all my old Instamatic pictures from our trip somewhere. I remember us laughing because there was a bird sitting right on top of Lincoln's head in the monument.
Your parents did it the right way. I just take the Metro home. :)) Walking is a part of life there. I rarely take the Metro for downtown, not if I can walk it or even bike it. Biking is very popular here. The Treasury Building is pretty cool ! Within the District, Smithsonian Institute has 17 museums, galleries, and a zoo. Believe it or not, they are all free! They are all different, from the origins of man, the wonders of art, the history and future of flight and animals! So much to see, for free!
I have gone to the US Mint, but, they no longer allow anyone there. But, next time, see if you can make a try for the Supreme Court, where you can watch it happening in real-time, Congress when they are in session. Very cool and the Capital. I could go on and on, but, the monuments are my favorite too. In warmer weather, I have coffee with Lincoln or Jefferson. :))
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words! Have a great day!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Maybe it was the mint we went to. I remember watching them print money. That would make more sense. We only did the air and space museum because we didn't have time for the other ones and all the monuments.
It definitely was the Mint. Thank goodness you have seen it as it is no longer open to the public. I hope you get to come back some day, I think you would have a great time.
How beautiful is DC these are the walks I enjoy American is on my list maybe some day I will be there 👍
Here is my link @dswigle have a nice weekend 😊

It actually is pretty nice in so many ways. I hope someday you do visit, but, please not in the height of summer. Every tourist in the world comes then. :)
Thank you for stopping by, reading, and leaving your link!

Ok noted @dswigle have a great week ☺️
Surprisingly, the price of the subway fare is not fixed, but depends on the time of day!!!! The architecture of the subway in your photo is very beautiful! museums are free then who keeps them? the state itself or patrons?
https://ecency.com/hive-196308/@tali72/buying-yarn-online
Time of day and the distance. Time of day is because there is a peak time (where the commuters are and they charge more!) to a less busy time which is cheaper (usually when tourists travel) So they make it cheaper for people visiting. The architecture is beautiful as it is very old and very much European in the build. Within the District, Smithsonian Institute has 17 museums, galleries, and a zoo. Believe it or not, they are all free! They are all different, from the origins of man, the wonders of art, the history and future of flight and animals! So much to see, for free!
They are supported by the Smithsonian Institution, where education and research are of the utmost importance. There are many other things (most, in fact) that are free, the upkeep is always through families that have a giving tradition, philanthropic tendencies.
It doesn't come out of the public pocket. Thanks so much for stopping by and dropping your link!
#MarketFriday loves you!
it is surprising!!!! very interesting!!! thank you dear! 🌺🌺🌺
So many things to do and to see and all for free!
https://ecency.com/hive-196308/@silversaver888/a-different-market-friday
Free is always nice, it is the one redeeming factor about the area that is a real draw for families. It is hard to get this much entertainment for free anywhere else.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your words and dropping your link!

Thanks for showing us this places. I learnt a thing or two. I went out out with a friend on hive this week. So we might both tell our different tales of the market we visited today. I would also view other posts when am done with today's coaching 😀
The public museum is free??
That's really great to know. Most places that contain alot of great views are often paid for. At least a gate fee.
Yay! I can hardly wait to check them out. It will surely be fun! I love different views.
There is so much to do and see there and only a few things cost anything. Within the District, Smithsonian Institute has 17 museums, galleries, and a zoo. Believe it or not, they are all free! They are all different, from the origins of man, the wonders of art, the history and future of flight and animals! So much to see, for free! Along with the Library of Congress, all the buildings like the Supreme Court, where you can watch a real court case, Congress, where you can watch a law pass... so much! You would love it~
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your words!

Oooouhhhh 😍😍😍, this brought back memories. I lived in the US for a year (2014 to 2015) and I visited DC in August 2014. I took pictures at the White House, went through Union Station (it was so beautiful), went on a boat cruise among so many other fun things I did.
It was such an amazing time in my life.
It's interesting to know that the museum is free. I would have visited while I was there.
The public ones I have been to in my country request a gate fee from you (to be honest I don't even see what they use it for).
Here is my first post for the #MarketFriday initiative:

No! You got cheated! Almost everything is free here. Within the District, Smithsonian Institute has 17 museums, galleries, and a zoo. Believe it or not, they are all free! They are all different, from the origins of man, the wonders of art, the history and future of flight and animals! So much to see, for free!

Beautiful tour. I'm left with a question when you say parking is $20, is that rate for one hour or does it include a longer time? This is a part of the city I would love to see for its architecture and historical significance. Thanks for sharing.
Here my entry for this week, hope you enjoy it:
https://peakd.com/hive-196308/@chaodietas/embroiderys-technology-market-friday
The entire city is filled with architecture of historical significance! I just posted a few pictures so people don't tire of seeing the city. I will post more when the cherry blossoms come out.
The $20 is the rate for the day, however long you are there. Almost everything here is free of charge. Thank you for stopping by, reading the post, commenting, and dropping your link.

Such beautiful images!
Is anything ever really free? Maybe "going for a walk" is free, but if something is actually promoted as being "free" it's a pretty good bet that it isn't, by the time all is said and done.
Actually, many of the museums, attractions, zoo, and art galleries are FREE here in Washington, DC The Capitol, Congress, Library of Congress, Supreme Court, and many of the government buildings are open to the public and are free.
They really are free.

@dswigle very interesting the City of Washington DC, is the best urban arrangement in the World, like Washington City. Many old building the of Government with an orderly building structure, is also a World tourist attraction . I love always wanted to go to Washington DC, but has not been reached, traveler , especialy from Indonesia, definitely take photos in front of the White House. Sorry this time I can't post it on market friday, because I don't have content yet, and I'am traveling far. Thank you very much, greetings.
It is a wonderful city and I know that many people from all over the world visit for business and pleasure. Someday you may get there, and if you don't, there are so many pictures and things written about it, it is almost like being there!
I have been in the White House ( you are not allowed to take pictures in there or even bring a phone or purse!) Anyway, thank you so much and I hope you have a wonderful day!
#MarketFriday loves you!
Thank you for you for the information about the area. Yes the rules around the White House are very strict ,hope you have a happy weekend too. Terimakasih banyak.
the museum was very big and beautiful. if you don't ask for a fee to enter it is very helpful for visitors, and I think every day many people visit there.
Many, many people visit them every day, There are so many places there that do not charge a fee to enter. It makes it a very popular destination.
Thank you.
