Half-Homemade Pet Food

My dog had to undergo a procedure during his dental cleaning a couple of weeks ago. Finally, he is recovering from the procedure, and his condition has become stable. However, the vet discovered that he has an allergy, which has been causing his chronic issues.

My previous dog also had severe allergy issues. I tried many different dog foods, but her allergic reactions never changed. Eventually, I had to make her dog food myself. This worked, and her allergy condition improved. Her appetite also became amazing, even though she had cancer. She did very well despite her condition.

I've been thinking about my current dog, who turned seven this year. His allergy condition is also sometimes horrible, especially between seasons. I considered that I might need to make his anti-allergy dog food soon.

I didn't want to wait until his condition worsened. So, I decided to start making half-homemade pet food. It's not as complicated as people think.

I boil some vegetables, fish, and sometimes meat. However, since my dog's food already includes meat, I just boil vegetables and small pieces of white fish. After boiling them, I pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and put it into the freezer.

At mealtime, I take three pieces of frozen vegetable mix from the ice cube tray, add prepared oatmeal, pour in some water, and microwave it. Then, I add this mixture on top of his standard dog food (lamb and rice) as a topping.

I often boil vegetables, so this time I gave him extra boiled broccoli as well.

The vet advised that he needs to gain more weight. So, I decided not to give him more dog food due to his original weight issues. He had gained too much weight, which another vet pointed out, and then he lost weight, but the original vet said he lost too much.

I think I shouldn't give him too much dog food. Instead, I will adjust the amount of his food using oatmeal.

My dog has already shown improvement. His difficulty was eating food too quickly because he was too hungry, which wasn't good. He sometimes vomited because he ate too fast.

However, since I switched to this oatmeal-mixed style, he eats more carefully and slowly. The oatmeal contains water, which gives him a nice texture as well.

My dog seems to be enjoying his new diet. I hope he gains weight healthily and that his allergy conditions and problems calm down soon.

半分手作りのペットごはん

数週間前、犬の歯のクリーニングと同時に施術を受けなければなりませんでした。処置からかなり回復し、コンディションは良好です。ところが、おそらく慢性アレルギーによる問題が発生していたことがわかりました。

前に飼っていた犬もひどいアレルギーに悩まされました。さまざまなエサを試しましたが、アレルギー症状が治ることはありませんでした。そのうち、もう自分で作った方が早いという結論に至りました。結果的にアレルギーがかなり改善されました。癌の腫瘍があったにも関わらずかなり大往生してくれました。

今飼っている犬は今年で７歳になります。彼のアレルギー症状は、季節の変わり目にかなり悪くなる傾向があります。彼にもアレルギー対策の食べ物が必要なのではないかと考えていたところです。

悪くなりすぎる前に早めに対処しておいた方がいいのではないかと思い、半分手作りのペットフードに切り替えることにしました。思うよりも作るのは大変ではありません。

野菜、魚や肉を茹でます。ドックフードにはすでに肉の成分が入っているので、野菜と小さな白身魚を茹でます。茹で終わったら、製氷器に入れて冷凍庫で凍らせておきます。

凍った茹で野菜を３個取り出し、作っておいたオートミールと合わせ、水を少し注いでレンジにかけます。ラムライスのドックフードの上にトッピングします。

自分用のご飯としても頻繁に野菜を茹でるので、この日は茹でたブロッコリーがたまたまあったのでそれもトッピングしました。

施術の際、獣医さんにもう少し体重を増やすようにすすめられました。他の獣医さんには体重の増えすぎを指摘されたためダイエットさせていたのに、今回は痩せすぎを指摘されました。

そこで、単にドックフードの量を増やすことはやめました。ドックフードで調整するのではなく、オートミールで調整した方がいいと自分で結論づけました。

もうすでに効果が現れています。お腹が空きすぎると、早食いをしてしまうのがよくありませんでした。早く食べ過ぎてたまに戻すことがありました。

ところが、オートミールを混ぜたことで、注意深くゆっくり食べるようになりました。水分がたくさん含まれているので、食感も良さそうです。

新しい食事を楽しんでいる様子です。健康的に体重が増え、アレルギー症状やそれによる問題点が落ち着いてくれるといいなと思います。
