Interlude: Mr. Perres' Canaries (art)

in Scholar and Scribe3 months ago (edited)

Hello, Everyone!

How have you been enjoying the latest chapter(s) of Mary Windfiddle's story? They weren't too action-packed but we're kinda setting the stakes for the upcoming adventure. Do you think our heroes are going to get to the dragon's prison before the monster is released?

Anyway. This is an ART post!
(which I posted to the S&S community by mistake, sorry!)

As Mary and the others have just gotten out of Dynatos Perres' office, I thought I'd show you a bigger, coloured version of the illustration with the canaries, because I'm pretty proud of how they turned out :)

Here's how the little birds began. I drew them on my small Sakura notebook with only a simple 2B pencil and a lot of references.

Here they all are! Aren't they cute? One of them isn't as excited as the others are, but let's just say poor guy's a bit... slow XD

You know what the problem is, when drawing with a 2B pencil on two adjacent, notebook pages, facing each other? Pencil's gotta smudge, and eventually, you'll get a muddy, no-good drawing.

My solution to this problem? Colour them pictures!

I'll be the first one to admit, I'm not very good with watercolours. But that's not for a lack of trying. I do try. Again and again. Poor pictures end up really bad (too much green in those yellow birds, too much layering, and what's that unnecessary contour?) but I don't care. It's better than nothing.

And, for the untrained eye, they must look quite pretty :) That's my only solace XD

Here's to many more drawings, and many more episodes of Mary Windfiddle's story. Speaking of, here's the next one!
Take care and be well!

Episodes of Mary Windfiddle's story come out every Monday and Thursday.
(Also, here's a link to the Chapter Guide, the Glossary and the Map for the series. You're welcome!)

An important disclaimer: These are my notes from a D&D game turned into a narrative. All the worldbuilding and NPC encounters belong to our DM, and all the actions of the other main characters (Aurum, Bruno and Agatha) belong to my co-players. My contribution to the story is only everything Mary-related (actions, reactions, inner thoughts), as well as the writing itself.

Sort:

I can't see why you are complaining! 😉 I wish my drawing skills were anywhere near yours. I can imagine pretty much anything before my "inner eye". But I'm not able to transfer it to paper... 😆 Yet, I'm proud to call myself somewhat skilled in industrial design engineering. But that has absolutely nothing in common with drawing pictures.
To make a long story short: I love the final result of your picture and I enjoyed the walk through the process of making it. 🥰 Thanks for sharing!
Take care!

Thank you for the kind words, have I told you how much I appreciate your comments? ❤️

My pleasure! Good work deserves love! And an honest to the heart comment is the least I can do. ;) 🥰
