Trying out 100% manual curation

in #hive28 days ago

For a long time now I have been using hive.vote... I decided to disable it. I think I am going to try out doing manual voting for awhile and see how I like it. If its something that is too much for me I may go back to using auto voting, or some kind of mix of it. But for now I am going to see how that all works out.

Good. More people need to do this. I've been tracking reward / post data and distribution of rewards by word count, and there's a lot of opportunity for manual curation.

I'm still making more useful metrics on the data set, but I will keep refining it as I go. Word count isn't everything, but it is just one of the indicators of reward to effort ratio, along with pictures, and other "stuff" that goes into a post.

I hope more people choose to join you in the land of manual curation.

Good decision. It will work. On average, I rate 250 posts a week, MANUALLY.

Over the past few years, I've developed an "eye" for this, and I can confidently claim that I've actually reviewed these posts.
It works for me, so it will definitely work for others too ;)

Great! Keep going!

Good luck , I used to use mostly auto vote due to lack of time , but these past months since i started to curate for Ecency no more auto votes for me , you see a lot more , and not always possitive but those we report to hivewatchers to deal with .

Great! A lot more Hivers should do it!

Good luck! I've tried 100% manual at various times, but I just don't have the time to read enough posts to curate well. SO I always fall back on a mix of manual and auto.

I’ve always wanted to set up auto-voting, even though my vote is small (just 0.1). It’s still good to learn, but I have no idea how it works??

That’s why I’ve always done my voting manually, and only for posts I genuinely like. And honestly, it’s really convenient—you’ll see. Good choice, @solominer. Greetings from Cuba 🇨🇺, and have an awesome day, bro! 🤝😎

Mine is mostly manual with some smaller votes for some trails (not the big ones). I can use up my VP on my feed plus Snaps each day.

I'm grateful for your support, but it's fine if I'm not getting votes from you on every post.

Good luck my friend,I hope you succeed 💪

I gave it a try a while back and honestly its pretty managable if you have a decent group of people you follow. Right now I delegating cause I cba after a spell a really bad mental state.

Whats left I do manual voting for but not at all efficiently.

Why does the voting have to be efficient, why can't it just reward content that you enjoy?

By efficiently in this case I mean spending the 20% vote power you have each day for the recommended 'stay around 80% vote power' Nonsense.

I regularly end up hitting 100% vote power cause I just don't read stuff on hive all that often. I wasn't referring to achieving max returns cause that's just a faf.

I'm a Hive Witness supporting the blockchain, please consider voting for me. - find out more here!

Understood, I interpreted it in the old school way of trying to "front run" other big auto voters.

I think it's a good move, if you have the time. I do mine all manually, not a big fan of hive.vote.

Not a fan of auto curation. Good to see you going for manual curation.

Nice one dude! Usually I dont have enough time to go for manual curation so I want my HP to be used in the mean time.

Bu yeah...manual curation is the best way to go for the entire package!

Congratulations @solominer! You have completed the following achievement on the Hive blockchain And have been rewarded with New badge(s)

You received more than 198000 HP as payout for your posts, comments and curation.
Your next payout target is 200000 HP.
The unit is Hive Power equivalent because post and comment rewards can be split into HP and HBD

You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking

Good night and good luck to us. I say a thousand thanks to @solominer who has given me automatic votes all this time.It was very precious to me and I always remember it.Congratulations to you for voting manually. If there is anything you need help with, please contact me and I will sincerely help you.

I think the best way is a mix. While i prefer manual curation and a couple of years ago i had a lot of free time that i invested in the platform reading and upvoting nowadays i am here like 30 minutes and on certain days.

Thus, i decided that when i got some more free time i read, comment and upvote manually, but i used autovotes to some of the people i really like their posts, as i wanted them to keep earning my 1-2 cents of motivation :P to keep on creating!

If it is too much work just vote with 100% then it is easy to do.

It is a lazy option. I used to always manual vote and found the when I auto voted my engagement dropped off.

On the flip side though, I can be quite lazy and it's handy when you are busy. Tough choices!

Good work! At the moment I use a bit of bots for some loyal authors and a bit of manual for other users

@tipu curate

You can also do both. I have configured Hive.vote to kick in when my VP is above 95%.
And manually vote to keep it under that.

My auto vote list contains people that constantly make quality posts.

Good luck with that.. my VP would always be at 95% if I did that

Hey, you can't create posts under 500 words, that's against our rules (Irony and sarcasm).

I use hive.vote just to follow and support the curators who do a lot of curation, like from #TheAnimeRealm and #OCD, and then I go through the trending and start my manual curation, even if it's just cents on Hive.

Manual curation feels more engaging because u get to read and support content that truly connects with u. It helps u discover new voices and stay active in the community in a more meaningful way.

I didn't know about hive.vote so never used and don't know how it works. I hope your new experiment goes well with manual curation.

I do a mix of the two methods. It works out well for me and I try to keep my vote power at a decent level.

Hi @solominer! I understand you want to try manual voting and I think that’s great. I also want to point out that I know the authors that enjoys your autovote and they are great ones. I believe most of them have contributed well and hasn’t abused the privilege.

Great for us all anyways! Have a wonderful day!

my vote value is small tiny but I also love manual curation . it is great idea, superb 🌼🌼

If you want a custom voting script of any kind, let me know!

Manual curation is lot of work compared to auto voting. But it's the best form of curation, since there are new users coming in everyday with quality contents.
Well done ✅

Best wishes on your new adventure.

It's all manual for me rn

I have a mix and match strategy..

I'm doing manual curation from the start and it goes well man. But sometimes it takes time 😂 Let's see how it will work for you

That's a great decision! I also curate posts manually...though my curation weight is very low. I hope one day my weight will also become higher. Best of luck.

Excellent! I think this is great, although tasking, but it helps those who are truly deserving to be rewarded. If it's too much, then you can mix it up a bit 🙂👌

Nothing bad in giving a try, good luck.

Good luck I hope you stick with it. I have personally never used auto-vote, I preffer to engage and meet people not just get fat off their upvotes....well that is how I see it, maybe I am wromg

I do a mix, as I work 12 hours shifts, so automatic when I am at work, and manual when I am at home. You can always combine it.

I hope your choice pays off, my friend. I personally prefer manual curation, allowing me to interact directly with authors, read and understand what they've written, but it does take time.

We use bouth. We auto curate some users that we know will always have something good to write or to say and then the reast we always manualy curate :)

Wow! I hope you gonna like it …

is the best option because so much hivers are giving votes without values likes 2% or 20% of their maximun power vote :D

Manual curation is good. Best wishes!

It's also good trying or exploring new things. This might come easy for you. All the best

Waoo!!! Is good to explore new things.
I love to try it one day.

I usually do a mix, I leave the hive.vote to follow only 1 healing trail and some closer people in the auto vote, in the rest, I do a lot of votes in the snaps and in some other people manually.

But it's nice too, voting 100% manually means you'll give a lot more importance to what you're seeing and consuming, now really what catches your eye is what you'll probably vote for!

Cheers.

I think the problem is when we start to lose control who are in our auto votes lol, I have a small list that I check quite often, and the rest is of course manual
