The News
Things have not been too dramatic when it comes to the $HIVE price this month. It could do with a bit of a boost to get people excited. As someone just pointed out to me it is all 'small beer' really as the market cap is less than some CEOs get paid, but it can still make a real difference for many people.
I saw a video by one of the biggest drummers on social media where he says that he makes nothing on some platforms as he uses copyrighted music. He makes something on Youtube, but barely enough to live on and so he relies on selling merchandise. Others use things like Patreon where fans pay each month for access to content or just to support people they like. The Hive model is different as you can earn whilst supporting others. If you can afford to invest something you can get a return even if you do not post, but doing so can make you something too and it can be fun. There is also no minimum threshold to get paid so everyone has a chance. That is worth shouting about.
@meno did a post about whether Hive is ready to go big. I know opinions are divided on that, but we should welcome those who give it a try and bring value.
Next week the @vsc.network launches their smart contract system. I know a lot of people are excited about this, but I will admit to not understanding the details. I do know that it is something that other chains offer and so we need to be competitive.
Friday Follows
- @ravenmus1c is offering her services to help with music and design. If you are trying to build a presence on Hive then she has the experience to help.
- @sidekickmatt has been putting his comics on Hive for years. He has several different stories, but one just reached 400 editions. He does this whilst travelling the US doing pet-sitting.
- Photographer @lalalopophoto is a friend of @thetroublenotes and just (re-)joined Hive. Apparently she may have lost the keys for her original account. I know there have been lots of cases like that so ensure you have safe backups.
Who are you following who deserves more support? Post about them to help others find them. I have been doing that with these (mostly) weekly posts for years. I use the #followfriday tag, but you can do it any way you like.
The Dog House
This may be a controversial one, but I am not a huge fan of 'AI' content. I get that these tools can allow you to create images, text or even music or video that you could not, but what is the real value in that? There may be some skills in crafting the right prompts, but if you can do that then you could probably be writing something original. Actual humans work for years to develop their skills and often do it for little reward. Of course they may love what they are doing, but they still need to eat.
I have met @thetroublenotes who tour the world entertaining people and are passionate about it. They had some thoughts on this topic.
Of course you can use apps if you really need an image for a post, but I want to give my votes where some human effort is involved. I can still find plenty to vote on, but it would be sad if Hive and the wider internet was taken over by 'generated' content.
These tools are evolving rapidly and will improve. You can find lots of examples of where they hallucinate things, but people are using them all the time to help them with their work and creativity. There is nothing wrong with using productivity tools, but we should not let them take over.
I have seen that there is a new image generator in peakd that gives access to various engines. You pay a small amount of HBD for that. I have not used it yet. I prefer to use my own photos or charts for my posts.
The End
We are nearing the end of another month and so I will be generating a new #BritList soon. As always I am looking out for more Brits on Hive. I have not done any lists for other countries recently, but will consider doing so if I get requests. I just think that people in those countries can do a better job with their local knowledge.
Hive five! Yes, it is five years old now.

What brings value to the chain is highly controversial , because it could be users, it could be price of hive, it could be usability of hive etc. In a decentralized world, everyone is free to present their opinion, but at the end, whales would mostly shape up the future of this chain. If whales who can put some good usage of hive (which some are already doing), will definitely benefit everyone ( as it will drive the price), but at the end I believe Keeping it human will drive for a long term result. Content creation is not everyone's choice, so some obvious usage of human usage of the chain (like HBD interest, curation) will largely decide where we will land.
What brings value does not have to be one thing. I don't play all the games or use all the front ends and there's plenty here I have no interest in, but that's fine as we are all different. Some just care about the money and they have options that do not involve posting. I want Hive to be seen as an alternative to corporate social media. It is less regulated than those and that is a pro or con depending on your opinions.
Thanks alot for mentioning my services! Have a great weekend! :)
No problem. You too!
Thanks! =)
Dunno why I've not been following Raven. Seems like a no brainer for me to follow the musicians of the chain.
She's a legend here :)
The hive seems to be sick, over the last couple of weeks, I am seeing less engagement, very little comments on my efforts, yet more auto voting, or curation trail voting.
Also a lot of those I have as Fav's or I follow seem to upload very infrequently these days, maybe once, twice a week at most.
It is a bit, not exactly soul destroying, but enthusiasm sapping.
I'm not seeing it as that bad, but it could be better. The number of active people is just too low really. I still find it more fun than FB. I just try not to make it feel like work.
Oh god anything is better than fb LOL,
I’m feeling very enthused about Hive and there are plenty of people, Raven being one of them who are willing to help everyone build more tools, more ways of boosting the people, the platform. This past week I’ve got people thinking about ways in which POSH could be expanded to include YouTube. Discussions around how SPK could be utilised to further the Hive Sound Library - and all of the time these conversations are earning a bit.
The above initiatives will boost the knowledge that Hive exists, put more people onboard. Well we can sure hope.

I'm glad you are enthused as I hear that others are feeling dispirited. I get that as I have been here for over 8 years and it's still not really taken off. We need an influx of people who will build communities around whatever they are into. They need to be technical enough to get to grips with it all. I do at least have plenty of cool musicians to follow.

It’s funny because a little while back I wasn’t too sure myself but recently things seem to have improved from my point of view.
However when I compare this to Substack, it’s better there in many ways and not in others.
I am more active here than elsewhere. I think people can have very different experiences depending on their connections. I've seen some complaint that they get hardly any interaction, but I do okay.
I mean wether we like it or not, ai is here to stay. What I hope will happen is AI can help make stuff more efficent and hopefully people will still see the value that humans can bring to the table.
Hive maybe can be a outpost where humans can still get rewarded for their skills. I dont know, but the trend is obvious and the money flowing into AI right now is crazy.
It won't go away and it will improve, but my opinion is that it should be a tool and not replace what humans do. I don't think the big AI money is in generating images of people with the wrong number of fingers. It's more in finding new medicines etc.
Agree with that last statement, the chatbots and ai images generators are more of gimmicks.
I still believe there will be a place for humans, maybe just very different from how it looks today.
Have you heard of Suno? My boss went to a conference the other week and was talking about it when he came back. He made all these songs with it. The idea is interesting, but it seems like a waste of time to me given how many other more important things he has to be focusing on!
I saw a demo of some app that may have been that one. The results are impressive, but I have mixed feelings about it.
I feel the same way.
People come (or should come) here to interact with people, not with AI robots and agents. Keep it human, ignore the bots.
I just wonder how long it is until we can't easily tell the difference. I already get some comments that sound like bots, but that may just be a language issue.
Well, that's comment farming, which is almost as bad as automated comments. These people don't really read the posts they comment on.
Yep. Plenty of that going on.
If he knew about HIVE, perhaps it would be an alternative for him.
Maybe, but when he has millions of fans elsewhere Hive is not that attractive. Someone with hundreds of followers could be a better candidate as they might not qualify for rewards on the other platforms.
That's the great thing about it, this impartiality makes it possible for all users to enjoy the opportunities with total autonomy.
It is a highly recommended platform for those who want to learn about marketing.
I think it's a great place to try something new. Of course you have to market yourself whilst being careful not to annoy the wrong people ;)
I haven't used AI to generate images for my posts as much lately. If I have the choice at a similar productivity, I prefer to use my own photos/screenshots, or free images on specialized websites. But it is clear that if you don't have an image handy or you don't use screenshots, it's very often that the AI will generate a better image even with an average or bad prompt (if it has the option to create more elaborate prompts based on your prompt as an intermediate step), in a shorter time than it takes for you to find a suitable free image online.
I'm not against generating images to illustrate a post in the same way as using something with a free licence from a library, but the image itself has little value and so there must be something else worth voting on.
It may have one value... To attract eye balls. Plus, we do need to illustrate our posts with something, even when we focus on text.
I agree that for a post focused on images or video, AI-generated images or videos are not the way to do it if you want upvotes. Of course, at some point, we might have issues making a difference. But by that point, maybe there will be some other AI tools capable of reliably telling AI-generating content from human creativity.
I agree that images do help to get attention and I see plenty of people use them when the post is a wall of text. I think that's okay. In the short form feeds you see a lot of generated images with no context.
I don't really follow the short form feeds unless I'm looking for something specific or something attracts my attention for a short while. They... wear me down.
@steevc, you're rewarding 24 replies from this discussion thread.
Hive’s model really stands out compared to traditional platforms. The lack of a minimum payout threshold is a huge plus, everyone has a chance to earn something, no matter their level
I don't mind AI when used intelligently but sadly for most it is seen as a shortcut to getting content out. Nobody really wants to see that generic stuff
We just have to decide what has value. If someone falsely represents AI stuff as their own work then they may suffer for it.
That's the thing, they almost always bloody do!
I can not wait for the launch of the VSC network
Thank you for the information
Have a nice weekend
Peace
Hive is five... maybe we should make a campaign called "FIVE HIVE" !BBH
