”Spring”

Hello from northern Finland and this bullshit of a ”spring”. While I mostly don’t have a problem with winter, this prolonged cold, dreary and ugly period is pissing me off. We have had a few sunny days and temps up to 10 Celsius degrees here and there, most nights are still sub zero and days not much warmer.

Yesterday was the first day I turned the heating off…

Yesterday was Vappu (Labour Day), or like I call it; the Official Munkki Day. I of course made munkki’s (donuts) and sima (mead) like the tradition calls for, and it was also a very nice and sunny day. Vappu is national holiday so we had the day off from work which is a nice treat in the middle of the week. I’m currently at work eating the munkki leftovers.

There is hope yet! On the south side of the house snow melted first and at least the spring flowers pushed through to brighten up the otherwise brown and grey tones everywhere.

Feel free to torture me by telling about the beautiful warm weather you have!

Damn you and your munkkis!

Ok, not really...me want! 💜

Also...the weather down my way for the next few days in Celcius. 😉

Not quite our peak summer but I’ll take it! 😂😅

Well, considering we're coming into winter I'd say it's not too bad and yeah, I'll swap you for a munkki. 😉

We hit 25 degrees yesterday. The day before we had a low of -5. We are also just coming out of the "prolonged cold, dreary and ugly period". The rule here is to not plant anything until the end of May, just in case there's another frost.

Ah that lovely taste of how good things could be, and then you get yet another cold day 😅

I stopped complaining about the extreme heat when I heard about Finland still having snow even though it was supposed to be spring. The world really is changing. Our Januarys here were cold af (for us) and then February came and all of a sudden it was hot AF.. The heat of the sun was not the same as say 10 years ago. Literally scorching hot that it goes up to 41c when back in the day it just goes to maybe max 31c.

But yeah I think I'll still choose extreme heat than cold. :D

Pick your poison! It’s funny but I’d pick the extreme cold over hot, you can always add clothing but over 30 degrees is so so tough if you have to endure that for a longer period. I wouldn’t mind a holiday in south-east Asia right about now though 😂😅

Sort of a "winter would be great if it wasn't for the cold and dark vibes" type thing. I feel ya. :(

I wanted to say yesterday, but the app crashed. Happy Official Munkki Day! That looks delicious.

Hahaha true true, the darkness is the worst, cold is fine though. Munkki’s help to deal with the weather 😅

I always wondered how the people on northern hemisphere feel about the cold.. it's really gets awkwardly annoying when it's just nonstop cold/rain etc🥶

Luckily we have 4 weathers, as of now it's summer and days are getting hotter and hotter.. trust me it piss everyone off here when they take back power (load shedding) at peak.

The cold is not that bad, it’s the darkness in the winter that kills the spirit 😅 We have four seasons which I like all but the transition period between winter and spring when the snow melts and looks nasty is not fun. The load shedding thing must suck! How do you prepare for those, do you use diesel pumps?

Oh that, transition period makes me sick most of the time.

How do you prepare for those, do you use diesel pumps?

Nothing, live without electricity till it comes back.. usually it goes for like an hour and so.

Is there any warning before the power goes out or could it be when ever? I would be so pissed off if the power cut when I had landry on.

nah, no such thing as warning.

It goes without giving any notice and comeback on time or according to their moods LoL. It pisses off everyone here.
