It's also possible that the reason why some insist on posting in English is because they want to interact with people from outside their community. Whether the goal for that interaction is to get bigger rewards for their content or something as simple as truly wanting to engage people from a different culture, I can't tell.
Just to be clear, I'm not Indonesian and I'm not part of the community (in case you're wondering). But, in my case, it is easier to write in English than it is my local language because while I get practice writing in English almost everywhere--memos from work, emails I send clients, etc.--I have almost no opportunity to write in my local language. Believe it or not, my local language is not the default language of business and government. Although it is in writing, its not the case in practice, which is sad.
my local language is Irish, which no one speaks and is also not the default language of business and government so I do understand when there is no audience there is no point.
If people want to truly engage with those of a different culture, then this is awesome and I really do encourage it, but for those that do not, and are posting in english because they feel they have to, well i would like to try and address that some how. Steemit is what we make of it, lets make it a fantastic place for everyone
You've got a point there. It would be nice to see different communities in steemit dedicated to helping build and encourage blogs in local languages, just like there are communities dedicated to helping newbies grow in the platform. I guess it boils down, like you said, to local curators. After all, we have curators showcasing general quality posts, posts about food, etc., why not curators to showcase and reward local content. Well, you just inspired me to be on the lookout for local content in my language too.
awesome - thank you so much. you are so right, we have curators for fiction on steemit, we have curator for gaming on steemit, what is the problem with local curators too?
I say give the community what they want. And judging by the amount of activity this post has received in the last day, it looks like what they want is a local curation league. Good luck in getting your league up and running.
