Vlog 202: The STEEM blockchain is a success when Steemit.com is dwarfed by other projects on the STEEM blockchain.

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I had a lot of fun listening to the interview Alex Sterk had with @heimindanger (d.tube) and Ned Scott (CEO Steem inc). You can find the interview here.

The title of this post was mentioned at the end of the interview.

Here are some of the highlights I really liked.

  • D.tube at the moment is taking about 6% of the 'traffic' of the STEEM blockchain.

  • D.tube is growing every day and the ongoing demonetization on youtube is helping in that department :)

  • About 10% of the 25% rewards that they ask for content created on d.tube goes to the payment of IPFS. It cost about 4 cents per gigabit. Some videos are already paid for till 2030.

  • Ned confirmed that STEEM will be the main trading pair against SMT's.

  • New SMT's will have therefore access to instant liquidity.

  • Phase 2 of the SMT paper is already being worked on while phase 1 is being developed/build.

  • In 5 years time, the vision is to have 100.000 entrepreneurs and businesses on the blockchain.

(To me, this shows long-term vision and another reason to invest in the blockchain for years.)

I talk about it more in my vlog.

I am a witness with our developer group @blockbrothers for the Steem blockchain. If you want to support us I would appreciate your vote here.

One concern I have with all these other platforms popping up, is that they seem to flood Steemit with content which can hardly be compared to the well written articles we find here. Take Steepshot, for example. It's an Instagram-like platform where you can share photos and get some revenue for it. That's great! But at the same time, when I browse Steemit, I'm mainly looking for articles, and stumbling upon images from Steepshot is basically like stumbling upon a Steemit article with no text, so while it would make sense for me to upvote picture content while browsing Steepshot, I am hesitant to to upvote Image-only posts on Steemit, even if the action and rewards are basically the same. Do you know what I mean? At the same time, I'm not sure if I would have it any other way. I think it's kind of cool that Steemit shows anything connected to STEEM.

I realize that writing all of this would be kind of pointless without a conclusion, so what I would like, is an option on Steemit to only show content created on Steemit (or busy.org).

Also, I wish D.Tube had an option to play videos on Steemit, rather than having to navigate to d.tube.

I disagree slightly.

Steemit, in my eyes, is supposed to be more than just a mere blogging site; it's supposed to be a social media and a platform for content creators of all types to post their work.

Social media nowadays is more about photos than blogs and articles anyway.

Alienating photographers would mean alienating a huge majority of social media users, and I don't feel that's a very good gameplan for Steemit's long-term future.

We need to remember than a lot of people enjoy photos more than articles. People are different and value is subjective.

Photos are indeed a huge part of social media, and I'll admit that even I sometimes like browsing pictures better than reading long pieces. I'm very inclined to using STEEM-based social medias, but I am hesitant, since I know everything I post will be published on my Steemit wall. Also, when I browse D.Tube and subscribe to someone, I want to subscribe to their videos and not necessarily all of their family photos.

While Steemit is a great way to explore anything on the STEEM blockchain and in that way serves as a full social media, rather than just a blogging platform, Porter's generic strategies teaches us that prioritizing everything is always outperformed by focusing on one thing, simply because it will not be best at anything.

I kind of see Steemit adapting a lifecycle similar to Facebook, where users end up posting their photos on Instagram rather than on Facebook and their videos on YouTube rather than on Facebook. Eventually, articles and blogs might be outsourced to separate STEEM-based apps, and in the end Steemit will just be a summary of everything every user has produced. Note that I don't necessarily see this as a bad scenario, though.

Maybe it will even strengthen Steemit as a social media. After all, those you want to follow on every platform are those you know and like to engage with.

Fun fact: I once had a plan to create a social media webpage which linked all social medias belonging to a single user together into one giant melting pot of a feed;)

Nice wikipedia reference.

Enjoyed reading yr opinion .

I do hope the images posted (here ) are required t/b a certain quality - it's hard on the eyes, some of the photos are a bit unclear/fuzzy. (am speaking here about blog posts on steemit that I've seen).

I wonder, if articles and blogs do get outsourced to separate #STEEM-based apps... will a certain RESOLUTION be mandated?

Thanks, I was pretty satisfied with the reference myself;)
I think in theory anyone can make Steem-based applications, so anyone with the skill, time and motivation could make a copy of steemit and just not show posts tagged with dtube, dmania, steepshot... Or maybe there could just be a menu where you could choose which platforms to filter out. I would love to try something like this myself in the not so distant future, once I learn more about the STEEM infrastructure.

I think Steemit should create separate website for blogging based on Medium.

Sounds like a cool project for 2018!

Yes, it would be a revolution is the blogging scene. I wrote an article about it.

You make some good points here. Appics will be a much better alternative to Steepshot in my opinion because we really need to separate the instagram type content from the blogs or the whole thing becomes a mess. Hopefully there will be more and more SMTs which will help to branch out the type of content we can have on the blockchain without getting in each others way

Appics seems intriguing!

Steem vision is all about collaboration in real time.

Each steemian brings their expertise to steem blockchain.

It could be posting, be a witness, a developer, organizer, the list will be too long.

Steem is the viable project that emphasize the community and it is LIVE.
Keep on steemin'

great post on steem😊

Thanks for sharing such an optimistic as well as far sighted post, about block chain system. Every time the great steemians like you have been working continueously for the development and progress of steemit community and it's people by providing new opportunity and informations to the people. The success of the system completely depends on your like people, we are nothing in this system, without you we have no any identity. I would like to offer my Heartful thanks to you for your great efforts.stay happy and healthy every day.

I key into the last point.
"in 5 years time, the vision is to have 100.000 entrepreneurs and businessess on the blockchain"

As a young female entrepreneur, i am working towards making this a success.
All thanks to @ned for the steem blockchain and @exyle thanks for this update.

Yes, that was an amazing interview.

"I think it's magical'! - Quote of the video!

And I'm pretty sure everyone agrees with you here. SMT's are beyond anything we can conceive right now...Imagine, 100,000 entrepreneurs....Hustlers...Busting their butts to create epic endeavors using this platform.

The future is so bright, and I'm just pinching myself that I got in when I did....You must be in heaven right now sir lol

Huge future for Steemit!

The STEEM blockchain is a success when Steemit.com is dwarfed by other projects on the STEEM blockchain.

Absolutely man, its just amazing to see different applications built on the steem blockchain and they're all performing well and gaining massive adoption.

From steepshot to DTube to Dlive, etc. They're all amazing projects and are making waves. People just love decentralization and it's really showing.

Talk about a good blockchain technology - yeah steem is very good. I think the scalability, no transaction fees and transaction speed makes it stand out from the rest.

Today it was amazing listening to the interview @heiditravels had with the Ceo of Bobs Repairs Frideric Prandecki, where he talked about how the zero transaction fees and 3 seconds transaction speed got him amazed and wowed and he's decided to develop and build his app on the Steem blockchain.

That's really shows that the steem blockchain is a success and more and more good news will keep springing up.

Happy Steeming

Reputation system and that it creates trust also makes it stand from the crowd! Since it then starts to work more as a tribe. With real value exchange!

I still can't imagine how SMTs will work and what will be developed around them - I hope they will be released soon anyway.

Excellent video friend and it's true dtube is no doubt a remarkable development on top of steem blockchain and now we can upload our videos directly on dtube without using any third party softwares and more great is that utopian.io now start accepting dtube videos and this improvement will surely attract more dtube user's and i am also so excited to see the launch of SMT & communities, both these development surely give more strength to steem blockchain, thanks for sharing your nice thoughts with us, Stay awesome

@exyle,
This would be a big news! 5 years long vision, that's a big news for all of us! I think the era of YouTube is no more! Now it's time DTube! Most important thing is SMT! With SMT we can see a huge success of STEEM blockchain. Great you decided to discuss about it!

Cheers~

Steem definitely is the future of Crypto World. No other blockchain is performing as good and as unique as Steem is and this is a huge moment of pride for all of us members. I literally invest so much time in convincing my peer group to realize the importance of this platform and joining it before it gets too late.

Just waiting on those SMT's to drop, then it is all over. I say steem will be at number 2 or 3 this year. @exyle

I am always happy to see your blogpost. I’ve had problems trying to use @d-sound , is @d-tube and @d-live all developed by the same developers?
Also I always say this
The app steemify is a great and fun way to enjoy Steemit.
I don’t know if it’s available for android users now. I’ve been enjoying the app and my friends who use androids are eager to download it.
Sure voted @blockbrothers for witness
You’re doing a good job @exyle

No they have different developers. Anyone can build on top of the blockchain.

For there to be 100,000 entrepreneurs, the social awareness of the blockchain will be huge. There will be many more ways to earn tokens. Blogging looks to be the first 'job' available to us. Steem will support (or become) a new industrial complex. Thanks for the info!

How can people possibly complain about DTube taking 25% when YT takes 100% from a certain group?!?

Not sure if it's just me or is D.tube still kinda slow compared to youtube, maybe this is because of how the bandwidth/server of D.tube is structured.

For me, d.tube has been functioning perfectly for a while now.

very exiting times.. happy for some news again from SMT and ned.. I think it could be even more..

Mark, when Ned said that Steemit will be 'dwarfed', so does it mean that Steemit (as a way to blog etc.) will (almost) disappear? In other words, is a consequence of this dwarfing that blogging will become less important, or is this only in comparison with the new (100.000) entrepreneur activities?

The STEEM blockchain will outgrow Steemit.com in the future. Steemit.com is the biggest 'app' on the blockchain at the moment and most used and as long as the website is maintained it will be here but there will probably be bigger communities somewhere else in the future 'dwarfing' steemit.com. I hope this makes sense.

Yes, it does. That means Steemit.com will continue, but there will be bigger communities on the Steem blockchain. For a moment I was afraid Steemit.com would disappear or become so small nobody was going to use it anymore.

Knowing that future SMT's will have instant liquidity will make these projects much more attractive. Was wondering how that was going to work. Is this then going to be part of the internal market allowing more trading then just Steem/SBD?

Yes, The STEEM blockchain will have it's own exchange. (like now but with more tokens). That's how I understood it.

That will be very exciting! Looking forward to seeing this all in action. Steem blockchain is really evolving and it's a great time to be part of it.

dtube has came a very long way from the start they have worked so hard and now all those hard work speak itself nice value added by dtube on steem blockchain

WOW i just didn't even know that Dtube existed!!!

I'm so new to all this. Its very exciting. I'm loving being a part of this new technology (even if only in a small way). I remember being quite involved in the internet early on as my dad was involved in the early computer and software writing business. I knew what the internet was long before many of the people that i knew.

I can't believe how out of the loop i am with all this new stuff. So for all of you people that are, there are so. many people that don't even know this exists at all.

Its not that they "don't believe it it yet" they just don't even remotely know about it at all. Very eye opening joining Steem this week.

Thanks again for a great post

Welcome to Steemit! I remember the early internet very well. I felt like a pioneer back then together with my friends but I was way to young to invest or create anything. Now, with crypto and Steemit it feels like second chance. It has completely changed my life.

Thanks so much. Yes i can see how this really is life changing, just like when the internet came it. Its so much more 'big" than a minor tech upgrade to an existing product. Its a total tip up the bag shake it all out and start again thing. I'm so glad that i investigated it. (after a mum group chat we formed our own tech group...) its quite funny really.

I appreciate your reply and i love your blog. Thanks again!
Sarah

"D.tube is growing every day and the ongoing demonetization on youtube is helping in that department :)"

Youtube is just asking for it in my opinion, they don't care about the content creators at all, and they censor everything, we live in a free world, i don't want to be censored on the internet.
We all should start putting more videos on dtube, the problem is that creating content takes a while, at least good content...
Great post as always, keep up with the good work :D

Good post!

All these features make Steem blockchain best among the rest!

I got dizzy watching your video, but I enjoyed it! 😉

People may disagree - and that's completely fine - but the one problem I have with YouTubers joining is that if they just repost their YouTube stuff on Steemit, I don't think they're deserving of big rewards.

I think whales should focus on Steemit-exclusive content since that's the stuff that will get people joining Steemit.

Reposting is just a money grab, and likely won't result in people checking out Steemit specifically for that content.

There are people contributing to Steemit exclusively, and I just personally feel that they are more valuable in the grand scheme of things.

I agree. I don't mind so much if it's new content going up on both but posting old videos to Dtube is a little pointless. Also youtubers should make their audience aware of dtube and ask them to come over and support them here, otherwise the whole thing is a bit pointless and a money grab like you said.

I think that content type should be unlimited, but number of posts per day should be limited. When I create a post it can take a couple of days to develop. Posting just pictures with little or no other content seems too easy if they get the same steem value.

yes d tube i thing is growing fast because of the youtubers who choosed to move to d tub

This is excellent news indeed and I'm thankful to you Sir @exyle for sharing this great informations:

- Ned confirmed that STEEM will be the main trading pair against SMT's.
- New SMT's will have therefore access to instant liquidity.

steemit is growing day by day and also dtube as well. This is really very good news for common people of everywhere. They are really poor and needy and needs something like steem. And now they are thankful. Thanks man for sharing great news!

Thank You Mark @exyle I need to go watch the interview that you mentioned in this post. So many exciting things happening with STEEMIT and it is only going to make this Platform the Biggest and Best. You can really sense the momentum of people coming here especially since so many have been hurt by YouTube AdSense and losing income for their content over there..........

SMT might be a game changer. My prediction for STEEM was $10 at the end of the year, now it is $20. This might be conservative, but that is how I trade and invest and it works for me. Anyway tnx for sharing your insight and I wish you also great Sunday.

it seems that Dtube will increase soon , it will cross youtube also

Yeah youtube is going to get blown out of the water, people are waking up @diya

strongly agree

SMT’s will skyrocket Steem. Glad to see that the team is going strong with this platform!

I agree totally, I am looking forward using those SMT's

This sounds exciting!
Steemit is definately the best platform and investment of 21st century
Great post and interview to listen!

Oh yeah, that's great news and if the STEEM will bargain to the SMT, then the SMT will be fully legitimate and payable. In this case, I also see investment more stable for the future! Thank you Mark and keep us informed of what's happening!

“New SMT's will have therefore access to instant liquidity.”
That’s just onother step for Steemit to become the best platform.
Thank you for all info.

Yes am a testimony of blockchain and I will it will grow faster

I agree with you blockchain is growing faster very soon it won't be compared with SMT

very nice story and writing friend

I think the steemit platform is the best with all the features it provides, as well as the blockchain technology you use .

Greet video and good work.
Its so good to read about the blockchain.
Upvote and Resteem

My only complaint with dtube remains the lack of at least 720p or higher resolution. When they will add this feature we should see really explosive growth.
If they achieve their 5 year vision, steem will become very valuable, that's super exciting news.

Thanks for sharing this info, but you are leaving us android users out, pls help us with cool apps too thanks

Nice info, please develop apps for android users as well. Regards

@exyle...Knowing that future of steem will have instant liquidity will make these projects much more attractive. It was wondering how that was going to work. It this then going to be part of the internal market allowing more trading then just Steem ..thank you for sharing with us..

yes this is very important information thank you for sharing :L:S:):):)
