You have a great idea of coming up with a contest for this project. The concept of pifc where we direct people to someone else's post can be a starting point. We just have to tweak it a little bit. How about directing people to this account's blog and you match whatever amount of support they extend to it? I am not sure though, that may be costly in the long run.
Let's think more about it and who knows, the brightest idea will suddenly pop up.
I am thinking in terms of events like walk-a-thon where people sponsor walkers at so much $ per mile and the money goes to the cause or charity.
