Recently, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) have gotten a lot of buzz.

Now having said that, there’s still room for collectability for the sake of just collecting stuff. However, when evaluating digital assets that have zero utility, the value we assign digital pixels on the screen is even more subjective and speculative than the real life physical versions.

In the real world, people collect lots of different things for sometimes no clear reason at all. Mugs, spoons, distorted/flattened pennies, rocks, bobble-heads, whatever. The list goes on and on. Sometimes the objects are placed on a wall to be admired. Other times, the objects are stored away for safe keeping.

There’s a lot of overlapping factors when it comes to WHY people are compelled to collect things. I won’t get into all of them. But I think there’s one reason in particular that resonates with most people, regardless of what side of the “collector’s spectrum” you fall on: Milestones.

The dictionary says that “milestones” mark a significant action, event, or change. It’s a moment in time that is immortalized by a certificate, trophy, souvenir, achievement badge, collectible item, or in this case…

...an NFT.

HIVE + NFTS

I’ve been meaning to goof around with these new NFT creation toys for some time now. There’s a number of them in the blockchain space. I’m pretty sure I’ll be experimenting with the WAX platform pretty soon. And I’m keeping an eye on TribalDex / Hive Engine advancements to try out a few ideas just for fun.

In the meantime, the clear choice for launching a HIVE-related NFT “collectible” is NFT Showroom. So that’s where I’ll jump down the rabbit hole first.

FIRST MILESTONE NFT

For my first NFT release, my objective is to intertwine as much HIVE goodness as possible in an effort to promote HIVE, its utility, and its value--all while leveraging the marketing power that the word NFT currently represents.

So I hereby present to you the first HIVE Milestone NFT Collectible, a celebration of the Hive Keychain mobile app launch!

As Creative Director for both Splinterlands and Hive Keychain, I’m exceptionally proud of what both projects have accomplished on HIVE and the overall blockchain industry. For Keychain in particular, it represents a simple, user-friendly tool that allows a seamless onboarding experience for all apps built on HIVE. When designing the UX/UI for the mobile app version of Keychain, I knew that this was an opportunity to raise the bar for what people expect from a crypto app. As we continue to improve the features and functionality, the look and feel will only become more polished and intuitive.

The release to app stores is a major Milestone Event for HIVE as an ecosystem. Since Keychain is funded by the Decentralized HIVE Fund (DHF), this is a success for every single person on the platform.

NFT DETAILS

If you love HIVE and want to own a piece of what will inevitably become HIVE History, this is your chance to grab your “I WAS THERE!” digital proof. It’s like owning a concert t-shirt that never gets worn or dirty!

This will be a premium collectible, limited to a total supply of only 10 (in the future, I will probably change the supplies and pricing of Milestone NFTs to reflect different types--such as Standard vs Premium).

What makes this even MORE exclusive is that fact that 4 of the 10 will be automatically distributed to the Keychain Team:

Owning one will not be cheap. But it won’t be super expensive either.

I leave it up to you to decide the value you place on collecting these Milestone Events. If HIVE becomes the “next big thing”, don’t look back and say “Crap, I coulda had the first collectible Keychain NFT!”

That would be super sad.
