Summer begins as Corona ends

What. A. Weekend! Oslo is one of the most beautiful cities I know of when the weather is nice. While some cities may get too hot, the coastal breeze and comfortable temperatures around 25 degrees C is just perfect. In my book anyways.

So with this being a long weekend due to Monday being a public holiday, it was the perfect occasion to get out and about. And sure enough, it got a lot crazier than anticipated.

The day started out on the roof terrace of a good friend who I hadn't seen in quite a while. The lucky bastard also got an apartment in the most expensive part of the city, facing out towards the fjord. Just look at that view above!

So to kick things off, we were just me, him and two girls who were friends of his, along with some fine wine and food. Soon enough though, the terrace was packed with people who were invited, and the mood was to continue partying there until the sun went down. Which in Norway these days is after midnight.

Lucky for me, I could just stay over at his place, after we had kept the party going there until let's just say way too late.

But this is where it gets almost too good to be true. The ground floor of the apartment complex is filled with some of the best sea food restaurants in Norway, boats docked that serve as restaurants and Cafe's serving drinks, and there is even a tiny beach. As seen in the background of the picture.

Norway, which barely had any Corona-related restrictions to begin with, has also been back to normal for about 3 weeks. So needless to say, people where flocking out and to the docks, beaches, terraces and whatever place facing the sun to enjoy the weather.

We were, of course, quite hungover but had to go get some breakfast (lunch) on one of the more famous restaurants. A delicious Snowcrab and glass of white wine later, we figured we were ready for a outdoor-harbour-pub-crawl to have a few (many) 🍻 and enjoy the weather as well.

Long story short, we kept going the whole day and then went to yet another party🤪. Luckily, I was already well dressed for the occasion and in the right mood 😎

I'm pretty sure I can get used to this👌

Tell that to someone who hasn't seen Norwegian summer days. That's an almost endless party. Without any exaggeration, in my opinion, Norway seems one of the best countries to spend your summer. Winters, autumns, and quite much from the spring time I would stay out of it :)) Not to mention Norwegian girls during summer...

Haha indeed! As we get further into summer. It will be crazy!

And you're absolutely right about the girls;)

Nice pictures. We also went out quite a bit for the week-end (small hikes close to a lake) and enjoyed the lovely weather.

I would like to say that I strongly disagree with your title: Corona has not ended. It is still heavily around here. The real problem is that many people think the virus is gone, which is wrong. The confinement is ended, because the hospitals can breathe and if people behave cleverly, the status will stay like that. From my experience of observing people outside, a second wave is very likely... :(

The title was specific to Norway. I'm of course aware that the situation is very different in most of Europe. Here, however, we've had 5 related deaths in the past 3 weeks. Throughout the entirety of the pandemic, there have been just 30 deaths of people below the age of 70, 10 below the age of 60. Also, there's barely any new cases (we're talking 2-8 new people diagnosed per day despite testing still going on fully).

So it's not the case here that restrictions are loosening up due to hospitals being more capable of handling it, but rather that they have barely anything left to handle as the people on intensive care have also gone down gradually and is down 95% from the peak period.

So yes it's true that Corona is not "over", but until these numbers starts to point the other way, then it is indeed "ending".

Ah OK! Thanks for clarifying. Has testing been generalised in Norway?

That is what is sad with France. Why is the "hospital bar" so low, for such a rich country... The healthcare system here is apparently quite bad compared with the one of the northern countries. OK we have more cases connected to a larger population and quite dense centers, but the hospitals were overwhelmed in quite no time...

I have always had a strange affinity for Norway(never been there), but of course being a nature junkie, I like the fjords the most.
One of the most beautiful countries in the world.
