The escape from reality could be, "show a different version of myself" couldn't it? I think this is important for people to do (not necessarily with makeup) as being comfortable in one's own skin is also understanding that who we are fluctuates continuously moment to moment and over a lifetime. I don't understand people being against makeup as if those who wear it are fake.
When a person changes their voice when talking to a child, a dog, a supervisor at work or a lover - which voice is real? Well, they all are, right?
Showing a different version is very good. Becoming one just to please is what I think is wrong. The human individual is so complex (at least some) that it demands to be known through various means of understanding
