36 Pack Opening On Rising Star - A Financial Breakdown

First let me apologize for the lack of 'bells and whistles' on this post. I've been wanting to start doing posts here for at LEAST the last 2 months now so I need to rip the band aid and actually do a post and break the ice! So yes, this is my first ever post here, please be kind 😅

Short(?) 'about me' with regards to Rising Star. I started playing January 31st. I did 'free to play' for like 3 or 4 days but then dove in. By February 6th I had purchased 600,000 starbits which went towards packs, 2 pizza box, 7 EnergyBoost1 and 2 Coffee Cup. On February 6th I also purchased 5 XPBoost10. 4 of them were 29 swap.hive each and the 5th was 33. This then allowed me to level up a lot faster which lead me to purchasing ANOTHER 776,724 starbits on February 14th which was enough to break 1 million in hive engine and qualify me for the starbits millionaire card! A few days later, February 18th, I caught what I felt was a stellar deal on an XPBoost100 for 285 swap.hive. My total investment now stands at about 735 swap.hive (which has been bouncing around about $1 on average I'd say since I started playing). I'm still very much in a 'building' phase and am not yet looking to recoup my investment. If I was though I could possible get my full investment back by selling just my XPBoost100. I MIGHT consider this after I break level 200 but maybe not (I'm already at level 187).

Today I purchased and opened another 36 packs of Rising Star. While this may not be the best, most realistic example as I feel my pulls/luck were definitely above average, I'm a big time numbers nerd and would probably break this down to some extent regardless. So, allow me to do a 'financial breakdown' of this purchase/opening with all of you to bare witness to!

1st though, if you want to 'experience' the opening first, you can watch the opening on my YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/ksP6yKOQ1qs

I wrongly said towards the end of the video I would probably have to watch it back to be able to do this breakdown, already in progress, but that would be silly! For you see, I can pull the results very easily from the official discord under #card-pack-stream as seen just below OR I could have alternatively sourced such info from my in game account page (not shown below just because I can't as easily get all that info in a single screen grab, but it's there too!)

The primary goal/objective of this financial breakdown is basically to see if the cards I pulled from the packs would have cost me more than the 300,000 starbits the packs cost me if I had alternatively bought them all as singles instead. It could be debated what the 'best' way to do this. Given the objective though, I'll be using the cheapest listing for each card as it's 'value.' If the objective was to see if we could sell everything we pulled for more than we spent, that I would also utilize most recent sales data and also factor the selling fee. Maybe we will do THAT kind of breakdown for a different opening in a different post on a different day?

Commons (65):
76 Elise x3 at 440 Starbits each = 1320 Starbits
77 Tez x5 at 580 = 2900
78 Dean x3 at 490 = 1470
79 Tilly x7 at 400 = 2800
80 Harry x4 at 600 = 2400
81 Pierre x4 at 640 = 2560
82 Sally x6 at 620 = 3720
(32 for 17,170 or 537 starbits per card)

i6 Mid Range Acoustic x5 at 2300 =
i8 Mid Range Mic x3 at 1000 = 3000
i59 Pearl White Acoustic x6 at 400 = 2400
i60 RS Pro EQ x2 at 325 = 650
i65 Melodica x1 at 765 = 765
i66 Chinese Bamboo Flutes x2 at 310 = 620
i67 Cheap Cello V2 x4 at 315 = 1260
i68 Kalimba x2 at 700 = 1400
i70 Starshall MG50 x2 at 800 = 1600
i71 Cheap Congas x5 at 420 = 2100
(32 for 25,295 or 790 SB/Card... and here I've been thinking instruments were the bad pulls! The average is however brought up a lot by the 5 i6 Mid Range Acoustic I pulled)

t2 Mid Range Tour Bus x1 at 1798
(that's 1 for 1798 which, let me get by abacus.... is 1798 starbits per card!)

In total for the 65 commons we're at 44,263 or 681 SB/card. That's less than 1/6th of our total spent but more than I expected from the commons! Let's keep going!!

Rares (38):
R167 Diana x2 at 6825 = 13650
R168 Cliff x4 at 5650 = 22600
R169 Green x2 at 6600 = 13200
R170 Kev x3 at 6700 = 20100
R171 Teddy x2 at 8100 = 16200
R180 Avril x1 at 7750 = 7750
R181 Brave The Rapper x2 at 6700 = 13400
R182 Ben x1 at 7900 = 7900
R184 Pascal x2 at 5000 = 10000
R185 Barber Shop Quartet x2 at 9300 = 18600
R186 Ivan x4 at 6600 = 26400
(25 cards for 169,800 total which is 6792 SB/card)

R172 Green Lightning x3 at 4380 = 13140
R173 Vuvuzela x1 at 3099 = 3099
R174 RSX Amp x4 at 3990 = 15960
R175 RSG Waves x2 at 3750 = 7500
R176 Vintage Mic RS3 x1 at 4380 = 4380
(11 cards for 44,079 or 4007 SB/card)

R115 Microlight x1 at 20999
R140 Touring Coach x1 at 29000
(2 cards for 49,999 or 25k SB/Card)

Our total for 38 rares is thus 263,878, or 6944 SB/Card. Add the commons and we are already at 308,141 starbits of value! That means if we bought singles instead of packs, we would have spent more than the packs cost before we even factor the 2 seasonal and 3 epic cards I pulled! While I did have what I feel is an abnormally high number or ratio of packs that contained 2 rares which also acts as an extra hit of sorts, it is very encouraging to reach our 'quota' from just the commons and rares. Also makes me antsy to want to buy and rip more packs ASAP. I COULD do a break down like this of any quantity of consecutive packs I want from others but let's me honest, it's a lot more to crack packs of your very own 🤣

Seasonal (2):
S34 Pascala x2 at 17,390 = 34,780 .... that brings the TOTAL to 342,921 with 3 EPIC cards to go!

Epic (3!):
E73 Gary at 30,000
E67 Street Organ at 16,000
E50 Couger Groovy at 99700 (but most recent sales are around 70,000 so for this and only this card I will use the recent sales figure instead given the very large difference!)

So using the 'lower' 70,000 number for E50, that's still 116,000 starbits for the 3 epics (38667 SB/card).

This brings our GRAND TOTAL value for the 108 cards from 36 packs which cost 300,000 starbits to purchase all the way to..... 458,921 Starbits! This represents a 'savings' of 158,921 starbits had I bought the same cards as singles instead (more than that really as many card I pulled multiples of didn't have more than 1 or 2 copies at the 'lowest' price and thus additional copies would have cost me more. Plus the cheapest E50 on the market right now is 99,700 starbits but we used recent sales data instead for that one and the 70,000 figure).

Aside from the extremely rare chance of pulling a legendary card, these definitely feel like abnormal results so I'll HAVE to try to do this again real soon and compare. But again, the fact that 300,000 starbits was surpass from just the commons and rares is very encouraging and thus in practice it may prove almost 'easy' to get more than 100,000 starbits of value per 12 packs. If you are looking to 'flip' cards though then things would tighten up as you may have to undercut other sellers back and forth before making a sale on some cards and you also have marketplace fees to factor.

I think I MIGHT try selling off a few extra from this batch so I can try at least another 24 packs sooner 🤑
