The race for King-of-the-hill. The "Flippening"

in #stats7 years ago

Since day one the America's, dominated by North America, has always been the undisputed king of the steemit hill.

Steemit was conceived, built and initially launched primarily from the USA.

We are now a little over a year down the line much has changed, witnesses or the servers that maintain the blockchain are found all over the world, users are located everywhere and traffic is no longer dominated exclusively by the West.

At any time, even on week ends, when traffic takes a dip, more than a thousand users are online accessing from all types of devices.

These users are coming from all over the planet, at all times.

steemit never sleeps...

Amidst all this growth and changes a new trend is about to emerge.

The race for king-of-the-hill has a new contender and its gaining fast.

It stands out as a large dark blue circle on the global map indicating where steemit traffic is coming from.

In the graph below, three weeks ago, the green line representing traffic out of Asia, surpassed the traffic coming out of Europe, for the first time and that has remained the case ever since.

It is continuing to gain on the red line, representing traffic out of the America's.

In the next week or two we should see the flippening... not only is it soon to happen with Ethereum and Bitcoin, it is now also due to happen with steemit traffic.

It has already happened at the city level, with Seoul the new capital of steemit. Now it is truly number one, exceeding even the number of users from unspecified locations.

But interestingly there is now another South Korean city in the top ten. Busan, which has already surpassed traffic out of LA.

However traffic is not just coming from these two cities in South Korea, its widespread across the country.

Although South Korea is driving the growth, the rest of Asia is lending a hand.

These are the top 25 Asian cities in as this past week.

... and the top 25 cities worldwide

It is now interesting to note that Hong Kong now exceeds traffic out of San Francisco and Houston.

Lagos, Nigeria is also an new contender, ahead of Toronto, from the most populous country in Africa.

Exciting time's ahead for steemit growth, as it continues unabated.

Where can I check the country and cities visits to Steemit. It seems like my area is not that desert as I tought. Very good stats, Steemit climbing the viral ladder. Thank you for sharing @gavvet

Interesting that out of all of Asia, growth should be fastest in South Korea. Is there something in how their communities are structured that allows for e.g. more effective communication about the Steemit platform? Could there be a correlation with the wide penetration of the gaming culture there?

steemit content, dominates their local search engines and @clayop and other whales used wise SP delegations to bootstrap the community... now the rest is history.

I see....

I think that Korea being the most connected country in the world helps.

Good point.

Yeah steemit has a great playful component in it and is very addictive too.

Very informative sir @gavvet thank you very much.
You are a master map of the universe. Steemit got to take the surrounding as steemit pours all the love with respect. There is no STOPPING or PAUSE on steemit platform anymore. We will shoot up like a STEEMY Rocket.

Very interesting reports! Looks like we Americans need to get our butts in gear. It does seem like USA is behind the times in terms of crypto.

Yup, the top spot is going to flip.

Upvoted! I didn't know anything about the internet traffic for steemit. Thanks for the informative post about interesting trends @gavvet

Growth is good!

Do you think that there will be any other outcomes besides value of steem rising and more content from Asian countries being entered on the blockchain?

Definitely.

Wow! @gavvet, I'm so glad to see Lagos on the list. But I'm supprised that India is not among the top Asian countries on the list.

You're doing a great job by updating us with the statistics of Steemit growth.

Bravo!!!

Congrats to our Korean Steemians for successfully getting the message out. We can only learn from their success.

for sure

It's awesome that this platform is really becoming decentralized

Great post, I'm just curious what are the top 20 American cities on steemit

Time to learn korean soon? :) South Koreans are known for their technology usage. Samsung is the biggest company there and I think they have the fastest internet in average as well. Steemit couldn't had found a better "home"!

Interesting to see if the rest of the world can keep up.

I'd be very happy to see Steemit spread more around Africa as well.

It's starting to pick up in Nigeria... 180 million population there.

Yes, Nigeria is doing well. I wonder if the lack of mobile phones, PC's and internet connection is stopping the rest of Africa joining. I'd imagine Steem spreading like a wildfire there once it catches on. Everywhere else the growth is distributed but in Africa it's focused on only few points.

People need to find out about it first, then word of mouth will take over

@gavvet, I am kinda new(been on the platform for a solid 5 hours now :D) to this whole steemit and crypto world, but the way I found myself onto this platform was from a local newspaper article on bitcoin. If someone such as myself, who is kind of an introvert and doesn't like social media, can find herself on a crypto-based social media platform of all things, I think there are alot of reasons to think this is just the beginning!

I also hope northern california and scandinavia start to represent themselves more... cant let the koreans hog this resource node haha

IT just shows how this is all building up globally. Competition is good as it spurs quality and more choices for the consumer. LET The STEEM BUILD!!!

Does this represent any type of threat to the people who are just starting to Steem and are doing it from countries that are less developed. Like I'm Dominican Republic. Is this something that slows the growth of individuals not located in those importan regions?
I'm just curious.

I think it will be easier for those in the top regions, but the network will fan out everywhere, and eventually stake will as well.

It's been a wild ride! So exciting to see the momentum.

Good and very good

Wow asia is really taking over but I think this is a good sign for steemit to have a really global based usership. Do you have any links to your data? Thanks for the good work!!!

Great to see how the countries are participating. My country need to get with the program more. LOL

A lot of countries do.

I knew there were lots of new users so it's good to see where they are all coming from. What I am really excited about though is that last graph, it is definitely lifting off!

Yup, no signs of stopping there.

Great post, sir...

In such a short time period of time, this thing has blown through the roof of social media. Lately, I've been seeing so many different people whose names I never saw before. In stark contrast to a few short months ago where I felt I knew almost everybody!!!

Those stats really show the leaps and bounds Steemit is making on a daily basis. Your final chart looks like it's about to head right outta the top end of the scales!

Awesome pictorial representations, @gavvet...

Yup, the great depression is over.

Thanks for sharing! Where did you get this information? Link?

its not publicly available, I compile some of it from Google Analytics data

Definitely the social media platform of the future!

we live in hope

Seems to be an STEEM outbreak in South-Korea.

Very good and detailed report my friend! Especially the graphs and illustrations are from high quality. Keep the good work up!

Tim

I am happy to see growth from any country, the more people we have contributing to the network the better off we all are.

agreed, any growth is good growth

Very informative.

that's true @gavvet, the race for the king is on a high speed. interesting to see Asia going really fast. steemit is growing really big, it is now a world of its own but i believe Africa is rising and i'm glad to see Lagos at 15. thanks for being a great steemian

This is very imformative.. resteeming and upvoting.. will this shift affect the value of steem in any way? Just curious... I am in America :) @gavvet

Interesting stats indeed...especially with regards to distribution. But this feels like just the beginning. I have a hunch that in a year's time we'll be looking back at these and laughing at the tiny figures.

I'm glad for us Koreans. I also hope to meet more countries. Koreans have a fiery temper, but also Koreans stick together well and concern people very much. I believe it can contribute greatly to the development of steemit. Thank you for the work. @gavvet

Seeing my country there just remains a source of joy

Imagine what the force would be, when billions of Indians and chinese would be steeming. India alone has almost 350 million educated middle class young population with ~100% internet penetration

The beauti of steemit is, its simplicity, u don't require any knowledge of Blockchain technology... N still can b part of it

I say bring it on. I want the whole world to benefit from steemit. Just give us ways to filter out or translate posts in other languages

Its all those koreans downloading massive amounts of anime.

Thanks for the detailed information. It really easy to understand too

Seems like we are growing as a community, what is awesome and beneficial to all of us. Thank you for all this info and for all your ongoing support, as well! :)

Hi @gavvet, very interesting post and nice figures that looks good for the future, just for interest sake, how much use-age does South Africa have. People in our country seems to be very sceptical and slow to embrace new things!!

that is true, but it is picking up slightly, about to be passed by West Africa

Thanks for the reply and info.

No man is an Island, is now more true than ever! Unbelievable Growth.

well, very interesting to know. I'm from the Philippines( Quezon City ) and has found out thru the survey that there are about 2,617 of us in steemit. not big but growing. Just signed in last month.

This was a flippening I didn't know about, thanks for sharing. Gooo steem!
