You sum it up well. People see Steem differently. Some are into the freedom, but others just see it as a way to make money with little interest in community. I have been downvoting/flagging for a long time where I thought the person was not using Steem as intended. That could be buying votes on a low value post, selfishly self-voting or 'circle jerks'. I do not do it for differences of opinion as I'm not looking for fight. I will leave a comment if I think they will see it.
As part of Steem Flag Rewards we have se guidelines on categories of misuse. I often say a bit more and some people do change their attitude.
I do not want to drive people away from Steem. I just want to see it being used well and getting rewards where they are earned.
I've had plenty of retaliation. Some people seem to consider downvoting a 'crime', but they do not understand curation. There are limited rewards and nobody is automatically entitled to any. It should be up to the community. No system is perfect, but Steem has potential to change the world.
@steevc thanks a lot for stopping by and giving some insight and yes, there are different approaches to steem. Those who are in it for the money could still get a return by delegating to manual curation guilds and that would benefit the ethos and community feel without them having to do too much at all.
Self-voting was something I forgot to mention but I haven't self voted for as long as I can remember, maybe the beginning of the year (I was still very much a minnow then). The way I see it, it's not up to the author to give themselves a vote if we want this to be a truly community based platform using the Proof of Brain concept.
But I'm sure we all appreciate the effort you guys put in at steemflagrewards to stop spam and plagiarising occurring so thank you and definitely agree with wanting steem to be used well to keep the honest users here as well as drive new users in here 😀
Love your last 2 sentences!
Thanks for the support on this one 💪
