THE GIANT GOULAFFRE

The Giant Goulaffre.

However, Allanic and Fistilou had arrived in Paris. They went to the king's palace to ask for work, and they were taken as stable boys.

The king's son loved hunting passionately; but it seems that it was a rather unfortunate passion for him and that his gamebag was often empty on his return, so much so that Fistilou said one day in front of his comrades:

"My friend Allanic would catch, in a single day, as much game as the young prince in a whole year."

The remarks were reported to the prince. He called Allanic and took him with him hunting the next day. Allanic did not forget to take his seven-league boots in his gamebag because as they were fairy boots, they increased or decreased in volume at will. He was given a good rifle, the first he had ever held in his hands, and he and the prince went to a large wood where game of all kinds abounded. Under the pretext of doing the honors of the day to his companion, Allanic let him shoot all the pieces, hares, deer, and foxes, and as he was extremely clumsy, he missed everything.

Around noon, they sat down on the moss, at the foot of an oak tree, to eat a piece of pâté and drink a glass of wine. Allanic then said to the prince:

"Rest a little, my prince, while I push a little point in that direction. In an hour at most, I will come back to join you."

"Go", said the prince, "And have more luck than me."

A few steps away, Allanic put on his seven-league boots, and in less than an hour he had caught so much game of all kinds that he had to ask for a cart from a neighboring farm to take them to the palace.

"And how could you, in such a short time, carry out such a massacre?" said the prince, seeing him return with his full cart.

"It’s luck, my prince, and a little skill too; but you know very well, there are days when you really think you are bewitched because you are so unhappy, and you are, it seems, in one of those days."

The prince seemed content with this explanation, and they returned to the palace, where they were amazed to see such a quantity of game arrive.

From that day on, Allanic was welcomed by the king, and especially by the prince whom he accompanied almost every day hunting.

Fistilou, jealous of this favor, undertook to cause further embarrassment to his former friend. He told the stablemen and others of their visit to the castle of the giant Goulaffre and how they had managed to escape without harm; he also spoke of the giant's seven-league boots, with which Allanic carried out such marvelous hunts. These rumors quickly reached the ears of the king, who called Allanic and spoke to him thus:

"They say that you went to the castle of the giant Goulaffre and that you came back without harm?"

"Nothing is more true, sire."

"Ah! What a brigand, what a monster is this Goulaffre! And he hurt me! He stole my half-moon, an incomparable marvel, and my golden cage which made me happy! Ah! if I could take revenge on him and recover my half-moon and my golden cage! But since you have already been to his house and returned without harm, you will be able to return there."

"Ah! Sire, if you only knew what a terrible monster this giant is! He would surely eat me if I returned to his house."

"You have already been there, and you brought back his seven-league boots. You must go back and bring me my half-moon, or you will be burned alive."

"Being burned alive here, or being eaten by Goulaffre, matters little to me, and since that is so, I will try the adventure."

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.

I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.

Now that Allanic and Fistilou are working for the palace in Paris, their friendship starts to dissolve.

Fistilou is jealous of the successes that Allanic has with the seven-league boots.

Now that Allanic is sent back to the Giant Goulaffre, will that be the end of him? Probably not, as Allanic is a very smart boy.

For Christmas, we were given a jigsaw puzzle.

The picture is a scene in a French village.

The puzzle has 1,000 parts and its dimensions are 68 cm by 48 cm.

We have started to work on it, but we have not gone very far.

We will continue to work on it for many days. We must be very patient.

Sort:

No, it's probably not the end of him.
Allanic is a very intelligent boy and he will surely find a way to face the Giant Goulaffre. Even if his friendship with Fistilou has dissolved due to jealousy, Allanic will surely put all his wit and courage to face this challenge.
Perhaps he will find some strategy or use his cunning to overcome this situation.
I am sure Allanic will prove his worth and emerge victorious from this adventure.

Jigsaw puzzles are great for family time. Don't worry, they'll be done in no time.
Cheer up!

Now again we have seen that we have seen very special interesting things in the story these two mother and son have traveled to a place and there they have asked a king for work but we all People know that no one is ever employed in this way unless he has some special ability, so the king's son said, "Come with me on the hunt, if you can, we will give you." They both started the journey but at first they did not get any victims due to which the king's son became a little sad but later he knew that he had a special boat. He went a short distance from there and put them on, and after that he hunted so many animals that the king's son was very happy, and when he returned, he respected him very much and told the king all about it. So the king was also very happy and seeing the same thing, another person was jealous of him. The story is very interesting and the next episode will also be very interesting.

Such games that happen are much more interesting and much time consuming.

Allanic and Fistilou's adventures in Paris are fascinating. Allanic's cunning in impressing the prince with his hunting skills, backed by the magical seven-league boots, earned him royal admiration. However, Fistilou's envy threatens to unravel the peace. The tension rises with Allanic's decision to accept the challenge, facing the possibility of being burned alive or eaten by the monster.

Picture puzzle. My father made us make some, I still have some hanging in my parents' house. Maybe I should take it down, undo it and have my kids do it. You gave me a good idea.

oh this episode has some lesson for us. Jealousy can destroy your relation, as it destroyed the relation between ALLAANIC AND FISILOU, It allow the fistilou to forget about the great relationship and friend it had with allanic, hopefully allanic will be safe from his friend jealousy. we all should not jealous anyone.

i also this kind of puzzle and one day i tried to solve it. but it's not easy at all. now i am waiting for the holidays to give it another try.

Fistilou jealousy is quite surprising to me. I did not see that Coming, after all they went through together 😔😔 it is so unfair. Allaninc amazing hunting skills has gained him favour with the king and prince, but come to think of it, Fistulou remark about his friend Allaninc was the reason he went hunting with the prince, why become jealous of him again? 🤦. Now Allaninc is faced with a decision that might cost him his life 😭😭. I do believe in my brave 💪 friend Allaninc, he will survive and I hope the king will honours him greatly.

What's a jigsaw puzzle? never heard of it 🙈🫣, but I wish you luck working on it, with patients as you said, I am sure you will finish soon.

It's such a pity to see such great friendship between Allanic and Fistilou going down because of jealousy. Fistilou is so jealous that he has forgotten their great friendship. I hope nothing happens to Allanic when he returns to the castle of the man eating giant. And also that he is able to recover the half-moon.

Thanks for writing.

I bet you enjoyed the game, especially together. It is certainly an interesting game to play. I wish you and your family the best, @vcelier.

Allanic took the seven league boot of Goulaffre because he knew that it would be useful to him one day and the day has come. With it, he could catch a lot of games but his friend Fistilou would be the one that betrayed him, knowing his secret. Somehow I believe Allanic would be fine in the end.

Jigsaw puzzles like this would surely be interesting to put together.

Its really take hard time to solve this puzzle.
When I was kid, I always enjoyed to play such games añd this is really a great adventure of time.
When in winters, we have nothing to do outside and inside being boring, we should play games like this. Very interesting.
But according to picture and this one is really great having 1000 parts.
If we talk about the story, their friendship is near to be ended but It seems that may be if one having trouble, other will helped him.
When they attain any achievement from their rivals, they should dividend the things and if he was using boots, he should also give it to other because it was not the success of his alone.
That's great now. The end will be interesting.

It's unfortunate how friendship when tested most times, do not last and one of the reasons is envy. This same envy is coming in between Allanic and Fistilou. Now Allanic's life is in great danger as a result.
Would going back to the Castle be good or tragic for Allanic? The next episodes will tell.
Jigsaw puzzles are a great way of relaxing and exercising the brain.

I guess I expected more from Fistilou. They went through so much together and he couldn't be happy for his friend. Allanic's success in the palace kind of started because of what Fistilou said. It will be interesting to see how Allanic manages to solve his way through this predicament.

Allanic and Fistilou had arrived in Paris must have really been facing pressure and nervousness at first when they get to Paris but I will say they actually do the right thing to have gone to meet the king as it is actually necessary. I will say the king son loving hunting might not really be that unfortunate passion as we think, probably just that he was not able to see the right channel to make use of it and let it grow which should not be so. "Allanic put on his seven-league boots, and in less than an hour he had caught so much game of all kinds that he had to ask for a cart from a neighboring farm to take them to the palace". At this particular time, it was actually evident that there is a room for everything and him doing this and catching a lot of game, I am so sure that he will have make the king son proud and happy that he did so. He must have been rare but it was actually worth it I must confess.

Firstly, I must say that I am very happy that Allanic was able to get close to the king due to what Fistilou said and Allanic is quite skilled too but I don’t like the fact that Fistilou is beginning to get jealous of his friend. It happens though because we all are human beings but there should be limit to these things.

Also, I am very sure that Fistilou wants him to die and that was why he told the King about the Giant Goulaffre so he could he sent there again but I have a feeling that nothing bad will happen to Allanic.

Allanic is cunning and self-confident but I would not trust him so much, I would be a little more cautious, I hope he can return with the crescent and the king's cage, and not be burned alive, I think this story is an example of the intelligence and creativity we must have to overcome obstacles.

Being an introvert I loved putting jigsaw puzzles together as a kid. Looks like a challenging one to complete just by looking at the picture.

it's not easy to solve this puzzle.

It was really a great thing that Allanic and Fistilou did that they were actually able to go to the Paris country to first of all see the king to pay him respect and I see that actually opens a lot of things for them which is great to see. The king son must have really been happy that actually he loves hunting and he was able to see someone that will help in quenching his passion and this is great to see. The king son must have really been pleased that eventually it was able to be achieved. According to what Allanic is painted to look, he will definitely look like a great hunter and this is evident even with the display of skills he showcase. Probably he must have really been doing hunting for so long. Quite so long
