THE GIANT GOULAFFRE

The Giant Goulaffre.

Alas! The golden cage fell on Goulaffre's face and woke him up. He grabbed Allanic by the middle of his body, he recognized him and cried:

"Ah! So it’s you, little monster! This time you will not escape me. I will eat you for my breakfast this very morning."

"Alas! I can clearly see that I no longer have any hope and that it is over for me. I recognize, moreover, that I deserved my fate for all the harm I did to you. But what sauce do you intend to eat me with, please?

"On the spit; and I will put you alive in the fire!"

"I see clearly that you know nothing about good cooking; do as I tell you, and you will have the most delicious dish you have ever eaten."

"Let's see, speak."

"Put me in a bag, then go to the woods, uproot a medium-sized tree, and come and beat me with the trunk of this tree until I am reduced to mush in my bag. Then you will put everything, with a little butter, salt, and pepper, in your large pot, and then you will make a good fire underneath. I tell you again, you will have finger-licking food for twenty-four hours."

"You are, I believe, right. It must be very good, and I am determined to do as you say."

The giant therefore put Allanic in a sack, then he went to the woods to uproot a beech tree, to beat him.

As soon as he was out, Allanic began to shout with all his might, to call for help. The giant's wife came running.

"Who is here? who screams like that?", she asked.

"Alas! My good lady, a poor man who has never hurt anyone."

"Who put you in this bag?"

"Your husband."

"And why?"

"For a few unfortunate pieces of dry wood taken from the forest."

"Why steal wood from us too?"

"To cook potatoes for dinner for my wife and children. I am so poor! and I have six children and nothing but my work and the charity of good souls for all resources. Have pity on me and on my poor wife and my poor children who are starving at home! Help me get out of here; your husband will think I escaped on my own."

The giant's wife let herself be touched, and she untied the bag's strings. Allanic jumped out, then locked her in his place. Then he ran to the giant's bedroom, took off the golden cage, and left.

Shortly after, Goulaffre arrived with an uprooted tree, and he began to beat the sack.

"Stop, I am your wife!", shouted the giantess in the bag.

But Goulaffre did not listen to her and he knocked like a deaf man. After half an hour, when he no longer heard screaming, he opened the bag.

"My wife!", he cried, recognizing her clothes.

And here he is, tearing his hair out and howling like a wild animal.

However, Allanic had arrived in Paris, with the golden cage. The old king, who was all sad and gloomy before, became cheerful and joyful again when he saw his cage again, and he spent whole days contemplating this marvel.

But, after a few months, his cheerfulness faded again, little by little.

Part 9

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.

I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.

As expected, Allanic was able to outsmart the Giant Goulaffre, who really seems dumb.

Allanic managed to have the giant's wife killed by her husband. So Goulaffre killed his whole family.

The king was glad to get his golden cage back, but now he is sad and gloomy again. Will he ever be happy?

Today, I went to a local restaurant with my eldest daughter Roseline, to celebrate her official birthday, which was January 5th. (Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures)

I say "official birthday" because it is not her real birthday. She is adopted from Haiti. To make sure that she would be adopted, the people in Haiti gave her a fake last name and a fake birth date, making her three years and a half younger.

When she arrived in France in 1987, she was officially nine and a half years old. In reality, she was already thirteen years old.

She learned that because she went back to Haiti many years ago and she met her biological parents, who have both died since. She has two sisters still in Haiti, and one of them sent her a copy of her original Haitian birth certificate,

So, during our lunch together, she told me that some of her friends are going to organize a party next July, for her effective fiftieth birthday. As I will be in Europe then, I'll make sure to call her then.

Allanic is a deeply resourceful and intelligent man. It's his cunning that helped him outsmart the giant and have him kill his daughters first and now his wife. I'd say that's justice duly served to the wicked giant. And also Allanic was able to acquire the golden cage the king was after though after being happy for some moments he fell into depression again. He may yet find something else that might amuse and cheer him and maybe through Allanic.

That was an interesting tale you shared, @vcelier.

I'm certain your time out with your daughter went really well and you both were happy. Happy birthday to her. And I wish her a long and happy life. And also to you and your entire family. God bless and goodbye.

Although the king has managed to recover his cage, happiness is not found only in material possessions.
As in any story, there are ups and downs in life, but in the end, happiness is found in oneself and in the people around us.
Perhaps, someday, the king will find happiness again. Hope must never be lost.

It's wonderful that you celebrated Roseline's official birthday with her. It's exciting that she will be celebrating her fiftieth birthday effective next month.
Be sure to call her and wish her a happy birthday from Europe - what a beautiful way to celebrate her life!

Human nature is strange, they can't be happy and they want more and more, once they got something, it gave them happiness for sometime and then after few days, they again become sad and want something more, this is what happening with the king which i don't think is a good thing.

Our poor Allanic Has put his life in danger to full fill the king one wish, but the king again told him about his other wish, if he is going to try to ful fill kings wish, he will be alright, but if not, he will be killed, the poor ALLANIC tried his level best and his wise mind has got the gold cage, and he got especapted from the giant and provided the cage to the king, but the king after sometime again became sad. Let's see what happens next.

ahaan i am glad to see you are celebrating your adopted daughter's birthday, this would have given her immense of pleasure for sure. I wish her happy birthday too.

After reading today's story I would like to say that the story is interesting and we get many lessons from this story if we think about it a little, the way we see that this poor boy He tried to fulfill all the wishes of the king by working very hard and he did one of them but after some time the king gave him another task so we have seen how many difficulties he faced. I go and my life is kind of ending and he has done this work of the king but the king is happy for a while but again after that he will give him some other hard work so from that. The same thing shows that the greed that is inside a person can never end and a person continues to demand things after being successful in this way, so the fault of this boy is that He wants to see the king happy which may lead to his life in adventures and adventures.

We all know that life without parents is very difficult but the good thing is that you all have given this girl a new life and now she is living a happy life.

I think birthday parties and such happiness moments like that are very important for us especially in this world where peoples are suffering from pain and problems.
We should gather some good happy moments for ourselves and gives happy memories to others.
If we talk about the story, Allanic also trap his wife and he killed her.
He is alone now and his no family member is alive now. I am still feeling sad for him.
But he was still alive. He got punishment of his deeds.
What will happen to next? Why their happiness is not long lasting.

Allanic has been so lucky, he was able to escape this time thanks to Goulaffre's wife.
Goulaffre has lost his whole family thanks to Allanic though I feel a little bit of regret for the wife's death.
I don't know why this King always have a problem with being happy? I'm sure it's to send Allanic to his death this time.

Awww... I love birthdays and I wish Roseline a most wonderful birthday celebrations.

The Goulaffre was only a giant man without sense😂 The moment he paid attention to Allanic recipe on how to enjoy eating him, I knew he has fallen for it. I am still amazed at how Allanic was able to outsmart him and he even made him kill his wife 😢 that's a bit sad to hear that a man used his hands to kill his wife. The king on the other hand seems to be lacking something more important than the golden cage because I still don't understand his sudden change of mood again even after having his golden cage back but I hope he finds that thing that will make his happiness last.

Wow! Official happy birthday to Roseline. Birthdays are worth celebrating and also a chance to grow.

Official Happy birthday to Roseline and I celebrate you sir because you have a heart of gold.
Goulaffre is really so dumb so it's easy for Allanic to outsmart him. Now he has killed his wife. I feel pity for the wife though who has always shown kindness to Allanic, so unfortunate.
The King is sad again? I wonder what he wants this time, it should be Goulaffre's head 😂

Goulaffre, the giant, falls into his own trap when he wants to cook Allanic. The irony manifests itself when the cunning prisoner convinces the giant's wife to free him, reversing roles. The story plays with comedy and tension, as Allanic escapes with the golden cage to Paris. However, the king's happiness at the cage's return fades over time, suggesting that even precious objects cannot fill a deeper void.

Happy birthday to Roseline. It is fantastic to celebrate these beautiful moments with family.

Feeling sad for his wife. King is always sad I'm not getting that what's his will. It's too un understandable. but hope he got his happiness and allanic safe himself from all that trouble.

Wow that's great about birthday party. Happiest birthday to her enjoy and celebrate that moment. She doesn't miss her biological siblings?

I didn't expect for Allanic to escape like that. There were a lot of things that could have gone wrong. Goulaffre could have just not listened to him. I was shocked Allanic could overpower the wife and put her in the bag. I thought she was still a giant, but just smaller than Goulaffre. I am also getting frustrated with the King. What more would he want. It would be interesting if Allanic can make the King and Goulaffre face each other instead.

Oh my God!
Allanic is one of the smartest person I have ever known, lol. The giants wife never knew that he was the one and I don’t even think she recognized him but he was so smart to put her inside the sack and went inside the giant’s room to carry the cage and left.

I was wondering why he asked the giant to cook him that way. It is now looking as if he already knew that the wife of the giant will come to rescue him. I’m glad he returned back to Paris and the king was happy but I’m wondering why he is sad again. I hope he does not send Allanic on an errand this time

I see birthdays as an opportunity to relax and celebrate the countless reasons to be grateful. My actual birthday differs from the one on paper but just 6 days.

The day of birth is very special for everyone and this day must be celebrated

Goulaffre could not recognize the voice of his beloved wife, this is more upsetting than her death.

The golden cage fell on Goulaffre's face and woke him up. I actually knew this will likely happen because I was already seeing it that the giant will wake up and be angry in fact. What a pity he was able to grab Allanic. Allanic must have really be clever to have put on this statement up to free himself.

"The giant's wife let herself be touched, and she untied the bag's strings. Allanic jumped out, then locked her in his place. Then he ran to the giant's bedroom, took off the golden cage, and left." At this particular time, allanic must have been happy that his plan actually works and he should be thanking his star because it was actually a close one actually.
